Sci-Fi Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon | Netflix

Dude, we’re talking about the RT scores for this movie and how the cultists are very obviously trying to drive up the audience score before it’s even come out. It’s a relevant topic of conversation. Just because this place doesn’t seem to be infested with them (thank God) doesn’t mean they aren’t trying to stay in the limelight. They are relatively easy to ignore in between Snyder movies (or in between other movies they come out of the woodwork to review bomb) but it seems like you’re just telling people to bury their heads in the sand in this particular scenario.

I never said they aren't trying to stay in the limelight. I'm just saying they're easy to miss or ignore. Even when Army of the Dead or Snyder Cut came out...I didn't really see them even when online cuz I don't check for those circles on here, Reddit, IG, or anywhere really. You're only really exposed to them if you go looking for them from what I can tell. They're not Trumpers or something like that that are omni-present. I mean like if you know there are going to be silly Snyderites in the RT user score reviews, why even click on it

And I'm not saying you can't talk about them or you're wrong to do it. It's y'all's lives and a free country. I just don't really see a point in giving them the attention they need in their sad lives. Or even talking about a director's movie/movies that you clearly don't and have never liked. I thought the same thing about Twilight or Michael Bay back in the day when those were popular. This is why I said says ago "...a lot of these Snyder haters need to get lives too. They're nowhere near as bad as the Snyderites but the haters are getting obsessed with him."
I just think a better use of life as it pertains to entertainment discussion is to talk about movies intelligently instead of just pointing at a fanbase you don't have to pay attention too or whining about a director who really isn't stepping on anything of yours. Complaining about Snyder when he was doing the DCEU I got because that's adapting characters we love (and even then a lot of people went OD on that). But now that he's in his own world doing his movies...I don't get get why anyone cares anymore unless a) you like his work b) like me you want to like his work but he keeps letting you down.

But as I said you're allowed to talk about whatever (relatively) and I'm not trying to tell anyone what to do. Nowhere close to that. I'm not y'all's boss. I'm just expressing an opinion. I just think it's kinda a sad waste of time to spend time talking about...sad wastes of time or about something you don't like that you don't have to consume.

EDIT: It never even occurred to me that people pay attention to the RT user reviews. Especially for genre films or big movies. I always assume that'll be fanboys or haters conflated the score than actual worthwhile opinions.

I get that; in this case at least (and I think I said this earlier in this thread) his movies keep me coming back because I honestly would like to see him make something I like. I say that because some of the concepts he comes up with are interesting. Army of the Dead sounded like it could be a lot of fun but as usual, he butchered the film with bad, nonsensical storytelling and weak attempts at world building.

The trailers for this in particular were obviously derivative of everything from Star Wars to Avatar but I still thought it looked like it could be a fun ride. Unfortunately, if the critics are right, he still hasn’t figured out how to tell a story. I will say that this is probably the last chance I’m giving him. If I don’t like this movie, then I probably won’t pay attention to anything he does in the future.

I don't see many comments on the movie itself, but I get that, the movie is being released on Netflix in a few days so why spend an extra $20?

I want to agree with the sentiment that Snyder is not an amazing visual director. I think he's good, no doubt, but at this point a lot of directors do as well or better, Nolan, Villeneuve, Reeve, Kosinski. I can't imagine Snyder would have known how to shoot Top Gun Maverick.

Where he stands out for me is his relatively unique voice, he has a very tragic interpretation of heroism, it always comes in with a cost, humans are not all sunshine and rainbows, it's very refreshing relative to what I perceive to be a sea of toxic positivity from Hollywood.

Personally, I enjoyed Army of the Dead, the Snyder Cut, and hated BvS. So I hope to enjoy this too.

Didn't it come out in like 5 cinemas nationwide? How are people suppose to see it?

What? There is a big screen adaptation of Dune. John Wick is a big franchise. Batman and Spider-Man are all about the cost. Logan happened. Everything, Everywhere All At Once came out last year. I could literally do this for days.

There being a cost to being a hero is fundamental to the concept. Whether it's Hercules or Clark Kent. Snyder just makes it all juvenile, and thus instead of "shades of grey" he makes a, "might makes right" situation. Which makes sense from the Ayn Rand fan.

Toxic positivity? I'm gonna need examples as to what this is in reference to because I can think of countless examples in which this doesn't make a lick of sense.

Like with @DKDetective , someone dragged him to the movie event of the season!

I assume they just mean in blockbusters. Because in no way do Hollywood movies as a whole have a positivity problem
I would call a lot of blockbusters pretty fang-less but "toxic positivity?" Nah.

But in any case, I hope @DA_Champion sees it and gives their thoughts. Regardless of what I think about the movie or Snyder's filmography, I like seeing people's thoughts as long as they're respectful. And it's way more interesting than the same 3-4 members whining about a movie they don't have to watch that is it's own IP. I might try and give it a watch before getting rid of Netflix sometime Q1 next year

So let's forget the whole decade that Hollywood tried to copy Nolan's "dark and realistic" approach to Batman EVERYWHERE... Including how it resulted in the folly of giving Snyder carte blanche over the DCEU to disastrous results.

I'm certain that Disney's forthcoming copyright and trademark infringement lawsuit will say very much otherwise.

I don't think Hollywood had a too dark problem with their blockbusters on the whole. There were some examples, but not really widespread

Hollywood did/does have a problem with not knowing how to balance levity and serious moments though. But even then I wouldn't label that as "toxic positivity"

You know what i mean though.
They may be similar/clones of certain characters, but they're not actually Batman, Superman, a Skywalker, etc.

hope I don't hurt you with my toxic positivity.

I would give the benefit of the doubt that this movie is all about being this year's "style over substance", but I just got done watching Divinity and Rebel Moon can't even compete on that level anymore.

Sometimes people go overboard with the "unoriginal" accusation.

For example the first Avatar. People went on and on and on about how how we had seen Jake Sully many times before. We had. But they missed an important point: We hadn't seen Grace Augustine before. And she was worth the price of admission before.

Admittedly, part of that is that her character is a critique of society that people didn't want to hear.

Note: I never saw the sequel.

As predicted, this movie looks like a waste of money. Snyder should retire.

Snyder is a lot like the Wachowskis. They had a few great movies at the beginning of their career and I always gave their films a chance but they simply never recovered and arguably only got worse.

I am the same. I like Snyder's movies but am certainly part of no cult. I feel like if people stopped bringing them up they would fade into obscurity. I don't hear about them until someone actually brings them up on these boards funnily enough.

"A few" is probably a bit of a stretch for both of those cases :oldrazz: but especially in that of Snyder where I wouldn't consider anything that he did great or obviously anywhere near the excellence of the first Matrix film.

Speed Racer puts them above Snyder in every category....

I will say, I am quite impressed that out of 23 top critics, NONE of them gave it a positive rating on RT. I now wait and see if the RT ends up worse than Sucker Punch.

From a movie standpoint, I totally agree. But I think they should stick to TV. Sense 8 was amazing and is easily in my top five shows of all time. I think that, for the Wachowskis at least, their ideas are often too big to cram into a 2-hour movie. They’re at their best when they are able to expand upon each major character’s storyline and build their world. I watched the latest Matrix movie and it felt like a bunch of half-baked ideas and characters. I think if they had made it and 8-part limited series, it might have actually worked.

I couldn’t finish Speed Racer, but I’m curious to try it again. Now The Matrix movies, despite whatever flaws they have, are more valuable than anything Snyder has done.

Speed Racer has a devoted fan base but having watched it recently, for a film with so many popping visuals, it’s just so boring. The characters do not connect at all. Which is probably been all their problems post-Matrix, they write cardboard characters.

Maybe they do have a lot in common with Snyder after all lol though yes Snyder hasn’t made anything on the level of The Matrix, his Dawn of the Dead remake still holds up. And I actually liked Man of Steel and his cut of Justice League. But yes, Batman v Superman is trash.
