Justice League Zack Snyder Directing Justice League (The Snyder Cut Edition)

Anyone ever catch themselves re-realizing that we are actually getting the Snyder Cut? That after all this time, it's actually happening?

There was the time before. It was full of angst yet hope only slightly removed, there but always just out of reach. And then there was an after, sometimes filled with optimism, other times with the foggy remembrance of what it was like to live in the time before when the ever expanse of will it/won't it was a constant bitter sweet companion of what was and what could be in some possible alternate reality, a reality unfortunately not our own. Until it did become our reality, and what was once seen as day dream or delusion we could only fantasize about, against all odds, has manifested itself in our reality, as surreal and real meet at the place where they are one. The Snyder Cut is real. And it is coming.
Yeah it is surreal. I walked out of Aquaman after an hour not fuming but more dejected. It was the same feeling I had watching Justice League for the one and only time.

They had changed direction to appease a vocal minority of which they didn't even win over (case in point the Aquaman being a Thor knockoff jibes). While I didn't think Zack was perfect, it was hard not to get caught up in his world and the pure bold ambition of it.

I simply thought there was no way back. Still find it hard to believe it's happening. I can actually sit down and watch BvS before the release of the SC with a smile on my face whereas before there was that massive cloud of "ZACK MESSED UP AND IS GETTING FIRED LOL" that always prevented me from switching off and enjoying it.

I think Snyder and Wan actually saw eye to eye when it came to Aquaman. Dunno, I really liked the film. It's a little different tonally from Snyder's films but so was WW.

I actually rewatched it myself after the SC was announced and with a less of a dubious mood, I did like it.

But there is stuff there that I don't think would have been prominent had Wan and Snyder made the film initially envisioned. For example it's strong on the schmaltz but it was carried well by the actors to ensure it didn't fall into cringe territory.

Aquaman: Wan Worked With Snyder to Undo Whedon's Justice League Changes

Actor Neil Daly, who oversaw test screenings for Justice League and James Wan's Aquaman, claimed in a recent podcast episode of Fire and Water that Snyder had a role in helping Wan distance Jason Momoa's portrayal of the character from his earlier appearance in Justice League under Joss Whedon's direction.

"We could have gotten a whole movie about Aquaman basically fawning over Mera the whole time and making all kinds of dirty jokes and things like that and they really had to get away from that, which is all what Whedon had done, so Snyder had a little bit of an influence on Aquaman," Daly explained. "James Wan was showing Zack Snyder - against the studio's wishes - cuts of the movie and early test screenings and storyboards to make sure that they're on the same page with what he originally wanted and Snyder gave his blessing of approval, bringing it back to what he wanted all along."

That's interesting, but it only reinforces my feeling that Wan was battling with interference.

But yeah I totally accept the point that Aquaman being different from the other films tonally isn't necessarily a bad thing. As I alluded I guess I was sensitive to any tonal shift going into seeing Aquaman in theatres.

I rewatched Aquaman recently and had even more fun with it knowing that ZSJL is just around the corner so I get how you feel.

This is all I could find on the Daly Brothers aside from the Fire and Water podcast.

On the record ... with Neil Daly | The MidWeek

So they exist but I can't find anything that says they were linked to JL or Aquaman outside that podcast.

Must be these dudes. Other articles that reported on it claim that he helped run the test screenings for Aquaman. Maybe the podcast would shed light on how he's connected?

Edit: Claims he's "an independent freelance market research analyst and focus group moderator" and at the time had "a non-exclusive engagement with Warner and New Line Cinema". The relevant bit starts at 01:14:15

I was just going to take that all with a grain of salt after I read:

Now I'll fully admit I only watched JL twice, but I never felt that Aquaman was "Jay from Clerks". I mean all I remember is him telling Diana "Whuf, you're gorgeous, and fierce... and strong." Unless I missed something?

I had a blast with Aquaman. Its such a fun movie and it strikes a good balance between humor and serious stakes. And the visuals—some of best visuals in the DCEU.

To this day i dont know why so many people are hard on that movie, I’ve seen a lot of people lob the same kind of hate at it that Snyder gets. I know the story isnt that great but its FINE. Its just a big ol fun time with incredibly directed action scenes and a lot of heart and charm. I suspect that some people just do not like Mamoa in the role and that tainted the whole movie for them. Lol

A little hyperbole maybe on that dude's part?

I'm sorry I misread that saying it could of happened that way. I mean but that's pretty much speculation.

I'm not at all a Whedon defender, but that just seems like unnecessary pot shots against him.

I actually recommend listening to the podcast starting at the 1 hour 14 minute mark. Some interesting stuff so far.

Edit: Geoff Johns apparently told Wan that he couldn't cut a single frame of Black Manta because he loved the character haha. Warner didn't have much confidence in the franchise after JL and that's why they crammed everything into the first film.

Edit 2: The Wayne manor becoming the hall of justice was always Snyder's idea and Justice League had a scene towards the end where Mera and Vulko show up and ask for Arthur's help with Orn.

Edit 3: Dude claims that Snyder's JL would have opened with the history lesson.

Out of curiosity, would you be ok if they kept the current actors or do you want them to start from scratch? Because that could be a little tough. The audiences are by this point used to Batman and Superman being played by different actors but don't you think there might be resistance to a new Aquaman and WW (and to a lesser extent the Flash)? These are the first cinematic iterations of these characters and dumping them in a few years might not work out so well.

Didn't Warner reach a deal with Roku and Amazon that HBO Now will still be available through them only now it's just called the HBO App?

I didn't read the email they sent so maybe. I have a Samsung Smart TV so HBO Max works for me :)

Phone app works great too.

When Mamoa came out riding that big ass Kaiju thing in the final battle i was like “yup, this movie was made for me and James Wan is a maniac.”

Like come on, people, how do you fold your arms at that? :funny:
