Deadpool 2 Zazie Beets officially cast as Domino in Deadpool 2

They should've just cast Mary Elizabeth Winstead so people would just ****.

Reverse Mirage/Sunspot/Dr Reyes situation.... sigh

LOL how?!?! It's never been stated at any point what ethnicity Domino is under her white skin so the idea that a African-American actresses couldn't play her is ridiculous.

Heaven forbid they give minority actresses chances to play more roles.

So removing her signature chalk white skin is an improvement?

Completely different film and context.

excuses everywhere :yay:

there are a lot of examples of make up on movies and tv shows for the past 2 decades. Everything can work, if done by a good crew. Deadpool team was already auditioning various black actresses, so from that point it was pretty obvious to me that they had one particular vision in mind. And it wasnt comics Domino. The concept art proved that too

Here's the issue I have with people on this crusade against this look of this particular actress.

We might get the character in its truest form at the very end of the film. How will we know? I think until we see the final product we won't know where this character will actually go.

It could very well be a misdirect or something of that regard. And even if she remains unchanged... we won't even know if this character will work out better or worse until this movie is released.

Honestly, i will not surprised if audience like Zazie 's look more than original Domino. Visually, Zazie is more interessing and attractive for me.

Look those reaction:

While i understand the disappointment her design click with people .
Seriously, we probably have a new iconic look. You will see in the next covention and cosplay ( the next Harley Queen).

 Mary Elizabeth Winstead has chalk white skin?

And there's no comparing this to Sunspot & Dr. Reyes. Beets being cast in this role doesn't eliminate all other white main characters (and that's assuming Domino would be white minus her mutation) from the cast.

If I had a penny for every time I've heard this, I'd be a person with a lot of pennies. What we see in those pictures is the final look, whether we like it or not.

Because Mirage/Sunspot/Reyes are PoC and they cast basically white actors.

Which is the reverse of Domino situation.

I like Zazie I got a week ban for cursing at troll account like Dino when she was cast. But it's just backwards how Fox is operating IMO.

Again it's just my opinion

Come on you know damn well if they cast MEW and just gave her a black eye patch white people wouldn't care.

But the thing is, there are different creative teams working on these movies. It's not Fox who decided to go with Zazie Beetz. That's down to David Leitch, the casting director and the producers. And it's the same with the other movies.

People act like it's one evil entity deciding which characters is caucasian and which is not, when we're simply talking about casting decisions, specifically made by the single creative teams who are working on these movie.

And the general consensus on Twitter is actually quite positive.

I think you're probably right. However some people will always complain about something. Affleck being cast as Batman was met with negativity from some and he's a dark haired white dude just like the comic character. Some didn't want Chris Evans for Cap because he'd already played Human Torch and his hair isn't the right color. Some are upset that Thor has short hair in the new movie. Some have been complaining since the first Thor movie about the lack of use of his comic book helmet.

Honestly, when it comes to race changes, it's important to know which were accepted and which weren't.

I feel like Jessica Alba as Invisible Woman, Michael B. Jordan as Human Torch and (initially) Tom Hardy as Bane were the only ones to get this level of backlash. And the latter eventually won people over once they actually saw the film in theaters.

To be perfectly honest, I feel like this version of Domino is going to be more like Bane in terms of reception. Fox literally auditioned basically everyone on my personal shortlist other than Eva Green (and Eva would have been a bit too stoic for the part). They literally looked for chemistry with Ryan Reynolds when casting the part and she was the only actress who managed to do well enough to get cast. I feel like the makeup artists ruined her look but she'll win me over when the film hits.

Heh, heh...nah. Maybe you weren't a member of the forum at the time, but Kingpin, Alicia Masters, and Heimdall all were a big deal to some people. On this board and others. Kind of hilarious in the case of the latter two characters as they probably have 5 total minutes of screen time each, lol.

I don't want to get into the race debate much because people are quick to throw the racism card at people who question anything about a person of color, whether that's the intention behind the comments or not. I will say, I will always prefer them putting a higher priority on minority characters that already exist, try to make them more popular by giving them more of the limelight instead of race bending white characters. That's the best way to go about adding diversity IMO. That's as far as I really want to go into that topic, because neither side is going to change their mind on that particular issue.

As for this new look becoming "iconic" - I just have a hard time believing that this new look will become as iconic as the more popular look would have had they used it, considering Domino, a fairly unknown character, is already a pretty popular cosplay character without the exposure of a blockbuster tentpole movie. In the cosplay world she's already pretty much a poor-woman's version of Harley Quinn in terms of popularity. Imagine how big it would have exploded if they had used it for this film. I imagine this will be popular among African American girls and women, because it's a look they can relate with (though the ridiculously stereotypical afro is a bit much IMO) but the more traditional look probably would have worked with them too as they would still know the actress is African American underneath the makeup and the rest of the audience would have loved it too. Just my opinion.

As for the costume to me, again, throw away the fact that it's not remotely comic accurate for a moment... it's just not a very interesting or spectacular design to me. It looks generic and uninteresting, dull, boring, whatever... The more traditional costume is unique and visually striking, a big part of the reason the character has any fanbase to begin with and again I'd like to point out that it just looks great in contrast/next to Deadpool's costume and there you have my multiple reasons for why I just don't care for it. It's a boring concept, both compared to the traditional look and just generally speaking, I..M..O..

That said, hopefully the character will shine through characterization and action scenes in the movie. At the end of the day that is what matters most but I'll always be a bit disappointed they didn't go with the more traditional look, I think it would have been a huge hit with audiences and after all the crap they took over Baraka-Pool and how much praise they got for his costume being comic accurate, how much they talked about how important that was to them for the first movie, I'm surprised they did this drastic change.

Is this the manip someone was referring to a few posts back? Because quality of the manip aside, she really doesn't look like Harley Quinn to me... all I see is Domino. This is kinda how I was hoping she'd look.

Yeah, this is pretty much how I feel, too.

Or maybe they should just embrace what Domino looks like in the comics for how many decades now. This shouldn't be about appreciating the actress' natural beauty.

Yeah, this is pretty much how I feel, too.

Well that manip looks much better.

Yeah, the look really isn't doing anything for me. It seems like such a simple design. I don't know why they felt the need to stray from it so much. This worries me about Cable more than anything now. Hell, if Domino's look was too "out there" and needed toning down, what does that say about Cable?!

Fox's intepretation looks better than that manip which looks a mess with that hair. It may look better off with the short straight look. As it stands it looks like a weird in between that doesnt work

In terms of that, Im guessing people think Marvel might race swap her in the books as has already been done with many characters. If she takes off, it wouldnt be too surprising if they create and push a new Domino thats inspired by the DP2 look while putting the original in limbo

Well if the manip creator could redesign the look, I doubt the afro hair would still be there.

Damn. I didn't even think about Cable. If that is what they said the reason was they didn't go with the Real Domino look then yeah, you're right. The look of Cable might be in trouble. Curious when a picture of him will come out.
