Zelda

THankyou so much, SB, does it disable things like the the aiming reticles with the hawk and such as well, or just the fairy? I'm not really sure what purpose the fairy serves (I haven't unlocked anywhere near all of my equipment) but having the fairy form onscreen at this point seems really needless and distracting.

That's basically all it does... just disables it off screen. You still point and all that with the pointer.

When you use your arrows and other aiming projectiles it doesn't use the fairy anyway. I gotta be honest, I really don't know why it's there... but I've noticed that as time goes on I keep a pretty steady left hand, so the fairy doesn't move that much. In fact, sometimes I'm able to keep it steady enough so that it's over Link's right shoulder. I've even named it Blavi. (Blue Navi). :csad:

PS - Link should ALWAYS have a fairy! :cmad:

It just gets rid of the fairy. When you aim with the boomerang, bow, slingshot, etc. the aiming reticle will still appear.

Kipobe, I wouldn't have minded the fairy if it followed you like in Ocarina or MM, but in this case it is really just distracting. I rather not play with it so I can pay attention to the game itself.

GRR! What do I have to do to get into Eldin Province? All I see where the blue arrow is is a blood-covered fence.

Yeah, I know that I'm going back on my word, but this needs to be addressed...

Those with the fishing problem aren't doing it correctly. You simply cast your rod (B+Swing) into the water and let the bait lay on the surface for a bit. When you see the end dip/sink below the surface, you know that a fish has taken the bait. You then need to quickly flick the Wiimote up, or the fish will simply take the bait and swim away before you have the time to react. If you're fast enough, the game will prompt you to "FISH ON!" at which point you'll use the nunchuck to reel in the fish as fast as you can. All you have to to do is quickly rotate the nunchuck, just like you reel in a fish in real life. I believe it is explained in the instruction booklet.

Since I've been traveling abroad, I haven't had the time to play much Wii; fishing in this game is the most fun I've had on the Wii so far. Like Animal Crossing, there are many different kinds of fish for you to collect.

Yes^

I am pissed. I got the guide and was checking if I missed any Heart Pieces. I saw I missed one in the Forest Temple. I went back but the monkeys are gone so I can't get to any other spot. I'm assuming I will be able to once I get the Hookshot.

Heh, man.. I did that too. I didn't get the guide, but I noticed I never got the compass the first time around. I only noticed it after I got the compass in the second dungeon... so I went back (took me forever crossing that stupid purple area, and my light kept running out). Got all the way to the temple... found the compass and then realized I probably missed a few heart pieces because there were treasure chests I couldn't get to. Ugh. Anyway, like you said I'm assuming I can return with a hookshot.

Anyway, I logged in a few more hours and I still haven't reached the third temple yet, though I'm getting closer. The game is definately the darkest Zelda yet... not sure if I'm really liking the feel, but everytime I feel like it's too dark it perks right back up just at the right time.

The whole thing is a real cross between Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. It borrows heavily from both games more than any other. Good thing for me... I really liked Majora's Mask.

I'm the in Goron Mines (aka Fire Temple). It's a very cool dungeon. One thing I like a lot about this game is you get the Iron Boots early and this Zelda utilizes them than any game in the past. OoT you just used them in the Water Temple. WW you just used them in the Wind Temple to activate the switches. In this you have to use them to wrestle Gorons, walk underwater, and on magnets (which are very cool).

Also, the Bow is awesome looking when you have it out.

Yeah, I thought that was a great dungeon... very diverse. I love the outside parts, the inner firey area, the water and the magnets. Link walking upside down? Don't get much better.

Oh well, yeah... it does. I played a little more today and whilst I didn't hit the next dungeon, I did [blackout]walk through Hyrule Town... catch up with Ilia... clear the twilight from the last province... and most importantly, got a glimpse of what is potentially to come: Link going dark, or possibly another installment of Link vs. Dark Link[/blackout]

You know how in a Zelda game there's always that "oh my god" moment that you know you'll always remember? Example: Oot had it's battle between Link and the Dark Link in the Water Temple. Anyway, this game has SOOOO many of those moments, it's stunning.

Still haven't gotten my hands on it yet....but I do think I'm going to give the Wii version a shot instead of the GC version....that little bit of prettier always gets me.

One thing I didn't like about the Goron Mines was
The weapon is the Hero's Bow. It's not a big problem, but I don't think it really fits with the Gorons. To me, the bow is a weapon of elegance and the Gorons are ones who would use tools of power. That's why I always like that you get Bombs and the Hammer from Gorons.

Well I've
got my wooden sword and am just about to head off to Hyrule
the controls definately feel bolted on imo, aside from aiming with the pointer. Though it's early days yet, so I'm going to see if I can addapt to the controls.

Things mostly seem needlessly complex compared to how it worked in wind waker, though I found the sword fighting in wind waker to be a little too simple, the wii controls just don't feel intuitive.

I might switch to the Gamecube version, though I'll miss aiming with the pointer with my slingshot and such.... I'm sort of torn.

Zen, give it time. Once you're battling on horseback it'll start to feel like home. Besides, the basic combat controls still feel like home... and you'll gain more skill as you go on. I know where you're coming from.

Spidey-Bat: totally agree. Though I think they wanted to give it to you early, and needed to drop it then for that reason. Plus like I said, that place was very diverse. OoT's assigning of weapons for dungeons was perfect though.

Yeah. And now that I think back on it, the hammers in all past Zelda games were probably the most useless of the weapons. In OoT, you only used it in the Fire Temple and then after that, you only needed to use it against Ganon when the Master Sword was gone. Though you didn't even need it for that if you had the Biggoron's Sword.

The hammer was probably best used in Link to the Past. Not that it was used that much.

I hate it when the game will randomly stop to tell me that I just picked up a blue/yellow/etc. rupee when I just find one lying around. Also that it makes you put rupees back into chests when your wallet is full.

Everything else is completely stellar, i'm about 25 hours in and on the 4th dungeon.

Yeah, that's gotta be a glitch with the rupees thing. It seems to have to start over whenever you switch between being a wolf and being Link. Annoying. Regardless, a few minutes shy of 22 hours, and I'm just about to start the 3rd dungeon now... hopefully I'll have some time in the morning tomorrow to hack away at it.

Also, I know I'm going slow... and not to beat a dead horse... but Jeff's "35 - 40 hour playthrough" is total crap. I haven't really spent much time on side-quests... yes, I did spend a while trying to revisit a temple trying to reclaim a compass I never got, but other than that I've been pretty focused. Slow, but focused.

Okay. I hate the imp thing called Midna that rides Link when he's a wolf. It's more annoying than Navi was. :(

I hate the ruppee notification. But putting it back in your chest if you can't carry it is better.

what you mean Tingle? :D

hey guys I need some help with the first dungeon, I suck I know.

I've gotten three monekys, but now I'm totally at a lose of how to proceed next. I tried timing my jumps across the moving segmented platforms, not luck, I haven't figured out how to open the master treasure yet, only that it involves wind most likely, and I don't seem to have enough monkeys yet for them to help me get across the bridge that the baboon knocked down

send help soon!
