Good way for Cody to get his win over Christian without needing to be IC champ again.
In that case surely Rock is also a hypocrite? In the case of Punk and Orton I think the one difference is that unlike the others neither have ever claimed to be great guys that were nice to everyone, to be a hypocrite you have do one thing and say another.
Is this definitely the reason? I'd never heard a concrete explanation over the Austin/Jarrett stuff in 99. One rumour was it was related to an issue JR had with Jerry Jarrett.
Jeff Jarrett said:Literally, my first night out on TV, I made a promo by design. I knocked Vince McMahon, who had come off the Survivor Series. I knocked Shawn Michaels, a top babyface. I knocked Bret Hart. And I knocked Steve Austin and I said, 'I'm going to say in this day in age that Austin 3:16 is blasphemous." which it is. Did the promo. Austin went ballistic. Got nuts. Got right in my face. Shawn Michaels was right there when I came through the curtain. He thought I was taking shots at his merchandise when in reality, I'm promoting his merchandise. He's a paranoid guy just like Randy Savage.
Was Jarrett really that over in 1999? Even at that time, he still struck me more as midcarder. I've never seen him as more than that. It felt odd to see him as world champion in WCW's final year.
The tension started all the way back when "Stone Cold" was working for Jarrett's father. He was looking at his paycheck and JJ sarcastically replied "It ain't going to get any bigger by staring at it!"
Then in 1997 when JJ returned to WWF, he cut this infamous worked shoot promo:

{Its actually a good documentary to watch if you ever get around to downloading it.)
So I think for those reasons, Austin took it personal and got back at Jarrett by refusing to work with him.
Yes! As much as his haters think otherwise.
I'll admit as much as I enjoyed JJ's country singer gimmick. It wouldn't have worked on a main event level so when he cut his hair, grew the goatee, and developed a serious attitude. It worked perfectly.
Austin could've SERIOUSLY elevated JJ to that next level so it was wrong for him to not do it. Double J was VERY capable of being a main eventer in the WWE; he had all the tools necessary - all he needed was the right feud against the right face.
He could of made it to that transitional champ or contender level if the feud with Austin took place, Jarrett was pretty strong on the mic in 1999 and he shown he was strong in the ring in the mid 90's.
Say what you will about Jarrett being the greatest midcarder ever, but he's never let me down as a worker. Ironically, he works better in the ring as a face.
AJ's looking good tonight.
"So Punk...what does Daniel Bryan taste like?"![]()
Punk and Orton you can make cases for if you wish, but what has Cena done?
He didn't complain though, he just said they were phonies in presenting one image and then acting a different way to the boys. Punk is pretty much what you see is what you get.
Also he wasn't complaing about The Rock ignoring him, he was saying The Rock was acting like a diva *****e to the whole locker room, like he was too good to be there. The Hogan thing is from a Austin DVD where the various guys were telling Austin stories, it wasn't that he was upset with Hogan, he was pointing out the difference between Hogan and Austin.
Taste the Vegan, Champ. With a slight aftertaste of Kane.
