Vampirism at it's height in victorian society was popular becasue it reflected fears of disease that resulted from high levels of promiscuity. The vampire shares fluids in a passioanate act, penetrating the victim, to pass on its affliction, similar to STDs. This especially reflects the taboos of unusual sexualitys, where the veiw that disease originated from deviant affairs. Think of aristocrats ala The Libertine, indulging in everything and everyone. Everything about the vampire is sexual, so to include lots of diverse types of sexual relationships is just a given.
