“Destroyer (Part 2)" Talkback/Discussion

Heroes I really wish would have gotten cameos in the finale:

Huntress (like somebody said, she's gonna sit it out because she's on the wrong team?)
Supergirl (like somebody else said, she's gonna sit it out just because she knows how it ends?)
Duck Dodgers (OK, that was a joke.)
Nightwing, Robin, and Batgirl (fcck the Bat-embargo. we got a wordless cameo from Nightwing in a previous episode, but we can't have a quick shot of these three, maybe with Bullock, Montoya, and the Commissioner, doing battle with parademons?
Vibe
Blue Beetle
Booster Gold
Speedy
Deadman
Phantom Stranger
Dr. Fate
Dr. Occult
Etrigan
Zauriel
Any other heroes that have appeared before in the show or the comic but didn't appear in this episode.

If they actually were in the episode, and I just didn't see it, call bullsht on me and tell me when they showed up.

Good episode, but hardly great. I'd have to say this was one of Darkseid's more weak apperances. Its great that they left it open ended, but honestly, it didnt leave me feeling as amazed or stunned as Divided We Fall. Everything just really felt rushed to me. You could tell from the get go that this finale needed to be three parts. Since WB was forcing 13 eps per season, they should have just not done "Far from Home." That episode was of season one quality and should have ditched it from the get go. I loved that Supes punch, but two punches and that was it? Come on. Darkseid usually beats the crap out of Supes, but now, when Darkseid is Brainiac powered, they do this. Thats just bull****.

The best part of the episode, though, was the little things. That Brave and the Bold moment, with the catapult, was priceless. Jonn's return actually caught me by surprise. I knew he'd come back, but I had no idea that he was the elderly chinese man. When he turned into the dragon.... god that was awesome. Question punching that paragon was fantastic. I really loved the scene where Stargirl and STRIPE are suiting up. And lets not forget "Don't you have a building to jump?"

Overall I'd give this a 7.5. Hardly one of the DCAU's finest, but alot of great moments too. It really needed to be three parts. Last season had a four part finale...so why did they decide to cut that in half? JLU may not have went out with a whimper (Teen Titans anyone?), but it wasnt really much of a bang either. I'm not saying JLU should have ended last season, but maybe ending this season is for the best. "Flash and Substance," "The Great Brain Robbery," "Grudge Match," "Patriot Act" and "Shadow of the Hawk" were some of my favorite JLU episodes ever, but I think it is time to let go. "Far from Home" proved that even the greatest of writers can lose their skills after writing certain characters for over ten years. Plus its not like this is the final story in the DCAU. Brainiac attacks is still coming. And for all we know, "Worlds Collide" could still happen. I hope it does too, cause I have a feeling Johnny Quick is going to be the Timmverse version of Prof. Zoom and I'd love to see Johns progression post-Shayera. But I digress.

A slightly better than average finale for a slightly better than phenominal show. Farewell DCAU. The Batman can't hold a candle to you.

People seem to forget that this isn't the finale, Epilogue is.

which means we should go watch Epilogue again or better yet go watch BBeyond and ROTJ and then epilogue, that way we'll have the real finale

Epilogue is the final story in terms of continuity. But Destroyer is the final TV episode of any DCAU show, as far as we know. That makes it the finale of both JLU and the DCAU.

It seems like the entire third season of JLU has simply been one long fanservice filled with mediocre plotlines and plenty of comic book sourcing and homages. Luckily, Destroyer's storyline has some legs of is own which bring JLU to a open-ended yet somehow satisfying conclusion. Of course, there is still plenty of fanservice that is easily written off as cornball or cliched by the casual viewer. To the delight of DC fans everywhere, each JL member gets a moment to shine with either a 3 second display of their powers or in the "running off into the sunset" sequence at the end. Personally, I find the DC villains to be far more interesting than the heroes. I think the reason the finale works as well as it does is because it features the two remaining top villains of the series: Darkseid and Lex Luthor. Pit the two against each other and you have an minimum B rating for the episode. Throw in a Superman meets DBZ moment (I've been holding back, here's my real power, send opponent flying, teleport in front of flying foe and smash into the ground), DCAU-obligatory Superman torture scene, superhero&supervillain teamup, not to mention a completely hardcore Wonder Woman and you have quite the JLU series finale. What keeps this finale from being truly great is the times when fanservice such as the inclusion of Hawkman stick out like a sore thumb.

A- for the series finale Destroyer. B- for JLU season 3 as a whole.

Great episode, 9/10.

I love the part where Supes grew a pair...finally! :D

I feel JLU does has one more season in it, but not a seventh. IMO

I thought it was good, but still left a lot to be desired as far as DCAU finale goes. I wish this was an hour so there was some time for the JLU to prep the invasion. I would have liked to see Captain Marvel appear and team upw w/ Supes against Darkseid (Darkseid ofcourse having the upper hand since both hold back). And what REALLY pissed me off is no Orion, Highfather, or any events on New Genesis. Didn't Darkseid say he'd go there before Earth?

Should have been a 3 part episode, but it was a satisfactory ending to the show.

More like 4 parter(this entire thing should've been on the Star Crossed scale)

but we ended up getting the rushed thing that WB loves doing to it's shows. Good episode, bad timing

I agree with Knives, they could have spent an entire episode on New Genesis alone. I couldn't believe they spent an entire episode building up the return of Darkseid to then end the apocalyptic battle for Earth in less than 20 minutes.

It was pretty stupid. It was basically:

Lex: We have a little problem. I tried to bring back Braniac but ended up bringing back Darkseid.
(Boom Tubes appear unleashing Darkseid's army).
Lex: Speak of the devil.

I just had a thought, could this event be the Apocalpyse of 09 as mentioned in Beyond?

I just saw the episode.

Incredible finale...exactly what I wanted--an all out war to save the planet.

Gave me goosebumps:

-Watching the JLU teleport and one by one/pairs, suiting up, etc. (music during that scene was great)
-Watching Supes Bats & Luthor fighting side by side
-The montages of the JLU & the Legion working together
-J'onn making his return (never saw it coming...seriously.)
-Bats trying to fight Darkseid despite the disadvantage.
-The end scene w/ the heroes running towards the screen.

Best dialogue:

-Bats & Supes & WW at the end
-Supes telling Darkseid that Batman will never quit so long as theirs a breath in his body...as will his teammates.

Amazing. I can't believe its over. :(

F*** YOU CARTOON NETWORK!!!

This can't be the end, this just can't (I'm in denial) :( Farewell Justice League. God this awful. Never felt so F$@#ing angry in my life.

Best moments:

All the heroes getting ready.

Darkseid "Let's Go"

Darkseid "Impressive, no one has ever avoided my Omega Beam" - That's F^@$ing Batman for ya

The catapult.

John's big reveal.

Superman "That man (Batman) won't quit as long as he can still draw a breath, none of my teammates will. Me? I got a different problem"

Superman "What we have here is a rare opportunity for me to cut loose and show you just how powerful I really am!" BAM!!! (Matrix Revolutions style)

Lex's "Power suit"

Batman (smiling??? wtf) "five minute head start"

Batman "don't you have a tall building to go leap?"

Now, what to do during Cartoon Network's presentation/booth during the San Diego comicon this July. hmm what to do?? what to do???? Any ideas?????????

Oh what this episode could have been had it been a three of four parter. 30 mins can't do justice to these stories. I propose direct-to-video super epic 90 min movies, let loose Timm and company, make it PG-13, give us some more ass-kicking! PLEASE!!!!!!!

I've got a few ideas...but if I told ya' what they were, i'd probably get banned. ;)

:p

*grumbles*

Can't find myself a bloody torrent.

Meh, if I was back home where Sky is I'd have seen it. I only have terrestrial in uni.

It's a shame that such a quality series is very likely to be over. I certainly could go for a final season to wrap up some existing storylines. Nothing major, just a final sense of closure.

With that said, I liked this episode. As mentioned, all the obligatory elements were there; super-villain team up, J'onn appearing; Superman/Darkseid battle, etc. I would have preferred to see more of Superman 'cutting loose' but that's me being greedy. Seeing the way it ended with Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman was just how it should have gone out.

There were some minor omission/oversights, but they pale in comparison.

Again, it's sad to see it (likely) come to an end, but it's been a damn good run. I salute everyone associated with the Timm/Dini-verse.

Man, it almost felt like a CRISIS episode!

Let's hope we at least get direct-to-video movies after this.

Anyway, I just posted this on the Marvel forums. Why are the producers allowed to get away with many Marvel nods in the Justice League series? They had to include one even in the last episode:

Hey remember guys the DCAU isn't over theirs still Brainiac Attacks.

There was more than one Marvel nod. In addition to the Captain America reference alluded to above, when Ice is about to be teleported out, she does the same 'transformation' to change into costume that Iceman did in the old 'Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends' show.

I liked it. Besides, there's not anything Marvel could do. It's not like DC infringed a Marvel character or something. DC and Marvel do these types of things all the time. How many Superman references have there been in the Spidey films?

does anyone get their costume messed up in this fight...

i hate it when a big fight happens and everyone is looking like nothing has really happened

I think Supes' suit got messed up, but not to the point of how it was in Supes v. Darkseid in STAS(the last ep).

And I liked the Capt. America thing they did, besides it's not like they did anything wrong. The even had Galactus in the Source Wall

Superman's suit was messed up but not to the extent that it was when he faced Doomsday.
