Yeah Im not too sure how hard core MCU fans would take to DP appearing in an Avengers film anyway. His schtick might not go down so well being that its a little at odds with the "generally" more serious tone. I just dont know.

I think it would be fine. MCU fans were eager to see the conflict between a character like Stark and Starlord. Some of the best scenes in Infinity War were Starlord vs Thor. The thought of Capt America dealing with the oddball DP character would be delicious. It adds a whole new element to it. The characters who react to DP in his movies are one thing....but seeing members of the Avengers reacting to him? That's a whole new level of normality for DP to play off of.

I'm sure DP would be "toned down" just like every character is "toned down" when they join an assemble film. The movie can't just be about them in that context. It's up to the writer to make it work.

Yeah for the most part I would agree, I think the majority of comic book fans would like to see that happen at least once just for the possibilities of jokes, DP and Spidey interacting etc etc. However DP does tend to be the center of attention and I can recall many a time Wolverine was lambasted for being the centre of attention too often in X-Men films so if used sparringly it might go over fine.

$12.65 million Tuesday estimate from Rth. If that holds you can insert my jaw dropping here because I didn’t expect a first Tuesday bump. Again, if it holds, terrific number.

Numbers are always higher in Tuesdays, unless if Monday was a holiday.

His latest update has DP2 doing 12.55m. That's frankly amazing.

Comparable movies: Alien: Covenant - (+1.8%); The Angry Birds - (-0.7%); Pitch Perfect II - (+1.3%); Godzilla - (-9.5%).

I didn't post about my thoughts on yesterday's numbers (it was great!!!!!) but this hold proves that FOX did the right thing by putting DP2 in this slot. Releasing the movie a week earlier than MD weekend was a smart decision. DP2 gets the canadian holiday (which proved beneficial yesterday) right after the OW and then it's set up nicely to have a good 2nd weekend drop during MD weekend. FOX'll feel vindicated if the rest of the week is so strong.

Didn'tr Feige already say that Deadpool would remain R-rated when he becomes a Disney property?

I believe it was Bob Iger, but yeah, it was said that they would keep the R-rating if the deal went through.

In regards to the box office news, that's great to hear! It's good to see our fears may have been unfounded after all.

A Deadpool solo now without an R rating would just be weird. Different if it's him cameoing in other films as he can make jokes without going over the top there.

Just like the opening weekend prediction, Deadline's 2nd weekend drop prediction probably won't hold up.

Yeah, deadline has a rep for being overly optimistic. But the last couple days have been promising, so we’ll just have to see.

It really could have done with another week before competing with another big film. Would have likely been better for both films to be an extra week away from each other.

It’s always nice to have a bigger window but I’m with blitz, I think it will work out. I don’t think that cannibalization will be too bad because of the rating difference.

It's basically summer '07 redux and that was even worse in terms of spacing between blockbusters.

May 4 - SM3; May 18 - Shrek 3; May 25 - POTC3; Add Transformers on July 3 and HP5 on July 11. It was bloodbath at the summer BO that year. But I think FOX wasn't off with their decision to slot DP2 just before the MD weekend. I have already listed a few reasons and it'll get the prime summer weekdays too.

A good writer knows how to integrate Deadpool in an ensemble without hogging the spotlight.

I think most geeks are going to watch both. I just won’t get around to rewatching either. Hopefully they can both do well.

Iger says he thinks they can make that happen. That isn't concrete. I think it probably will happen, but if there are conversations about a fear of diluting the MCU brand as a family friendly moneymaker....I do think it'll happen though.

I expect the changes to be more insidious, however. Like to tone down the type of humor or violence that is seen, to remove LGBTQ characters, to make it play in all the countries that ban Deadpool now. I see Disney getting handsy more in that vein.

They would get rid of FoX's Deadpool once they realized that they couldn't use Fox's version of the character in the longer run. But while there's still demand for it and the deal isn't official approved by the Doj, things are still kinda up in the air and Iger was just probably appeasing Deadpool's fans as it isn't in a dire state unlike the Fantastic Four and the X-Men films.

$12.4 million actual, +3% per the-numbers.com. Veeeery nice.

$149,915,548 running total domestic.

ETA: FWIW the first movie did $11.6 million on day 5 so this is the first day after OD that DP2 has topped the original (though DP was still about $15 million ahead total).

I think problems could arise if/when Disney launches its own MCU X-Men. I can't imagine them allowing Deadpool to continue with all the X-Men references. They won't have two versions of Colossus, Juggernaut and the X-Men we saw in the mansion.

Deadpool isn't going to sit very well in the MCU if it has all that X-Men stuff going on.

Either the people at Fox think 'to hell with it' and are using all their characters while they can, or they are hoping the X-Men will somehow continue within the Deadpool films after the transfer to Disney.

Can DP2 hit $500M after this weekend (it should be opening almost everywhere apart from china rite ?)

If by “this weekend” you’re including Memorial Day I’d say it’s possible. It will need something like $120 million WW over the four-day. Not sure about Japan, imdb didn’t have a date, just “June” last I checked. But other than that it should be everywhere.

Looks like about $8 million on Wednesday per Forbes.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/scottm...doing-great-for-a-comedy-sequel/#1e337065432d

Some context from Mendelson:

When it comes to comedy sequels, Deadpool 2 is already (almost) in a league of its own. Comedy sequels have a tendency to earn well below the first film's respective gross, especially when the first film roared out of the gate the first time out. For every 22 Jump Street or Meet the Fockers, there are comparative underperformers like Hot Tub Time Machine 2, Neighbors 2, Addams Family Values, Gremlins 2 and Ted 2. Even The Hangover Part II earned 9% less than the first film's $277m domestic gross even with a boffo $135m Thurs-Mon debut over Memorial Day weekend in 2011.

In raw grosses, Deadpool 2 will end its second weekend just below Logan ($226 million) as the 11th-biggest R-rated domestic grosser and the third-or-fourth biggest comedy sequel, presumably just over/under Rush Hour 2 ($226m in 2001), Hangover part II ($254m in 2011) and Meet the Fockers ($279m in 2004). Inflation is a different story, and it may have to settle for a spot in the top-ten in adjusted domestic grosses among comedy sequels. But in worldwide numbers, it should easily clear Hangover part II ($585m) to become the biggest comedy sequel ever.

It's moving along nicely. Solo may end up being a paper tiger when all is said and done, which will obviously help DP2 more then expected.

Iger can say they could still make them but when it actually comes to doing it yeah there will be a list of catches going on behind the scenes.

Ryan generally seems nervous about the idea of Disney getting Deadpool and i think thats more because he knows even if they asked him to still play Deadpool there will be more restrictions with Disney.

I think Ryan much prefers to be with FOX since he has more freedom with his playground and it seems he also enjoys playfully mocking the MCU in deadpooling their marketing.
