Horror ‘Resident Evil’ | Netflix Series

Huh. I can't say the news is terrible, since other than Wesker these are probably all original characters. The movie's where the hope for the series' future lies. It's just...okay, this is where they're going with it.

Ella Balinska would have been a good choice for Sheva Alomar, but I'm assuming she's one of Wesker's daughters in this.

Sadly, that cast photo makes it clear they are doing the timeline split.

Was that just a rumor before? Maybe it was, it's hard to keep track of these things. Regardless, I guess it just makes this alternate Resident Evil to the movie(s), or possibly the successor to the previous film series. I'd be more concerned about that if we didn't have the film coming, since they were probably never going to double up on faithful Resident Evil. If the movie is good and what I would want from the franchise, then this can be whatever.

I mean, it was coming out when casting was started. It was not officially confirmed, but looking at the ladies on the left, yeah, they are doing the time splits.

I don't know why they constantly commission films and shows that circle around everything that's actually interesting about the history of the franchise, i.e., the actual ****ing storyline from the games.

Ah well, least there's something else coming out that at least has a decent resemblance to the games' storyline.

Neither am I tbh. But it's a helluva lot closer than anything else thus far. So I'm willing to push down the weariness and give it a chance. It would have made way more sense to cram the second and third games together, given they take place at near enough the same time. Plus, the first and second games' stories are too good to be mashed up together like that imo. Hearing that was the case was a big disappointment for me.

This series just sounds all over the place to me. I get they are doing their own thing, but the only existing character is Wesker. And like...I mean Wesker is the villain. He's a terrorist who wants to rebuild the world and cull humanity and make it anew in his vision.

So I mean who even are his daughters are why should we care about them? The only child we knew about in the continuity before was Jake, and Jake was not that great of a character either IMO.

OK so Wesker has daughters now and this show is about them before and after the apocalypse...like...this sounds more like Walking Dead type of stuff than Resident Evil. This doesn't sound like Resident Evil to me.

It just sounds like we're going back to the garbage fanfic of the movies. Let's not forget how the later movies were constantly ret-conning the plot and re-writing it on the fly.

I mean, that's the games as well.

When i heard about the casting news first, i thought "nope" because for some reason when it comes to RE i care more about the visuals than anything else.
Its why i like the RE movies despite being so bad, because they get the visuals right often.

But then i remembered that this is supposed to be this weird resident evil show that seems more like a teeny drama or so.
Thats why im not really bothered or anything by the cast who seems to be absolutely not what you "expect" from Resident Evil.

I will wait and see how this turns out, no need to lose my head...its time for that later when we see first footage if that is awful.

I mean, that's the games as well.

The games are survival horror though. The games are more about putting you in a situation where you are basically screwed. Low resources, barely any weapons, and there are monsters crawling about that all want to kill you. Most game stories are just patchwork stuff to get you to play. The agency is given to the player over the characters.

Can't believe the difference between a film and a game had to be explained to someone.

I'm talking about the lore of RE, which is usually what movies and shows are based on.

Lance Reddick playing Wesker is scary as hell and in a good way. That's one positive thing I'll say about this show.

I can see Lance Reddick being a great Wesker just because he can bring that kind of presence to that character, but even if he's great in this I still think this show is going to be trash unfortunately.

I just dont like the sound of the direction they are going in with this and of all the potenital that this franchise has in a live action show format its sad to me that this is the best they could come up with.

Like I said before I am more than willing to give it a chance atleast the first episode, but I''m not expecting much if I'm being honest, but who knows maybe it will surprise us.

The show already lost me with the Wesker Daughters and post-apocalyptic BS. I think at the very least it might be an interesting trainwreck.

I think Resident Evil fans probably feel jerked around because they had to endure those Paul Anderson movies with Milla Jovovich for years. Now they're making a new TV show that has no resemblance to anything Resident Evil at all. Other than a guy named Wesker is in it...and he has daughters now?

And you know, it's not like Resident Evil has a shortage of strong female characters and heroines between Jill Valentine, Sheva Alomar, Rebecca Chambers, Claire Redfield, Ada Wong, and Moira Burton. Also, female villains as well.

Reddick as Wesker is amazing, though.
