It's not a surprise that the White Sox lost their 120th game to tie the 1962 Mets on September 23, 2024. Most likely the Mets are going to lose more than 121 games.
Also any of the White Sox fans that expected this awful inevitable tying the Mets by losing 120 regular season games.

Not sure why they didn't just wait a week when the season's over

I find myself.....surprised and befuddled. People have podcasts so they can further explain this kind of analysis.

Good player.....kinda weird dude, but stuck with the Rockies.

This makes him a Loyal player who most likely enjoyed playing for that likely enjoyed playing for this Denver Baseball team.

It's smooth flying for the Orioles because they are going to the Playoffs.
Most likely the White Sox will lose their 121st game this season to outdo the 1962 Mets because it's unlikely the White Sox can win all of their 6 remaining regular season games.

I'm very happy as a Cubs fan that the Cubs rebounded vs the Phillies since they outplayed them greatly to win 10-4.

Holy Cow for the Padres that had an incredible Triple Play third to second to first to defeat the Dodgers resulting in the Padres clinching a playoff spot. If it's a sign of destiny for the Padres to get back to the World Series which they were in once that was 1998 before seeing a Royal Flush Yankees team had no struggle sweeping that outmatched Padres team that had 1 undeniable great player.

Well......the Dodgers have all but clinched the NL West with their 4-3 win over the Padres. The magic number for them is 2 with 4 games left (one more against the Padres). I think it's highly unlikely that even if the Dodgers lose to the Padres tonight, that they then go on to lose 2 out of 3 to the Rockies. Even if that were the case, the Padres would have to win out. against a Diamondback team that is fighting for their own playoff berth.

I'm frankly surprised the Dodgers have the best record in MLB with all of the pitching injuries they've suffered. They lost Kershaw, May, Glasnow, and Stone for the season and only recently got back Yamamoto and Buehler (the latter being all over the map) and they expect to get Gonsolin (who has basically been on the IL for the entire year) back, but who knows how that'll work out. If they tie the Phillies, the Phils get the #1 seed because of their head to head advantage. I don't think there's much difference between the 1 and 2 seed anyway, but I don't see how they can possibly win a WS with that patchwork pitching.....

The White Sox can be complimented for showing resiliency since they did sweep the bad Angels to avoid losing their 121st game in Chicago, however they won't sweep the Tigers a good team in Detroit.

The Tigers are simply a better team by a landslide, it's in Detroit, and the Tigers having more talented players is most likely to result in the Tigers executing more successful batting.
It's not a bold statement to say the White Sox will not avoid being worse than the 1962 Mets because it's a long shot that the White Sox can sweep a good Tigers team in Detroit.

The result was entirely unsurprising because the Tigers were the Home team, were competing to get in the Playoffs with a realistic chance of getting to the Playoffs if they won on a Friday, and the Tigers being a better team by a landslide.

The most likely result happened in Detroit so the 2024 White Sox are worse than 1962 Mets which is the unforgettable embarassment that vastt people got to see.

Kudos to the Tigers that wasted no time to get back into the Playoffs for the first time since 2014 so it's been a long wait for loyal Tigers fans.

It was not surprising that the Cubs won on Friday 1-0, what was surprising was how fast the Baseball game was since this is the unique sport that has no regulated time limit compared to Soccer, Football, Basketball, Hockey, and Lacrose which have ticking clocks for the time limit.

Interesting fact about the NY Mets. They evidently only played 160 games of the 162 season and went 40-120. Why? I have no Fing idea. :funny:

Let's be clear about something. The White Sox, in 160 games had a worse record by one game than did the Mets, but, let's be equally clear about something else; this does not necessarily make them the worst team in MLB history any more than the 2001 Mariners winning 116 games made them the best (The Mariners subsequently squeaked out a 3-2 series win over the then Indians before getting obliterated 4-1 by the Yanks).

The WS, however, are really, really bad and the future is bleak for them. They've got a long road if they want to become relevant again. It appears they'll lose the best players on their roster and attendance is worse than a Donald Trump rally in West Los Angeles. They need to build up their farm system and that's gonna take a few years.

Maybe a few of their games were delayed because of rain or something and they were never able to reschedule?

Mercy rule. LOL

That actually sounds like the most likely scenario. At the end of the season, they just said "Screw it. We're done". :funny:

Found this.....

The Mets had rainouts vs. Dodgers and Reds that weren't rescheduled. Standings would not have been affected if those games were tacked onto the end of the season.

So, I guess the Mets weren't in line for the post season......

Statement from the White Sox owner after their historically bad season:

What a great ending to the season....the Mets and Braves have to play a doubleheader today to figure out who is going to make the playoffs. The Mets won game 1 to clinch a spot. IF they win the second game, ATL is out. If ATL wins game 2, the D'backs are out. In other words one of those teams had to sweep for AZ to get in.

One thing.....the Mets and/or Braves are gonna be gassed for the playoffs.

Ohtani and Yoshie missed out on being a part of a memorable Mets season! I'm so proud of the Mets. Nobody gave us a chance of getting in the playoffs. Ohtani and Yoshie wouldn't sign with us early in the season. The Yankees fans at the Wfan were pleading with the Mets to blow up the team but thank God for Steve Cohen saying it was too early. Now, we should have no problems getting Juan Soto and Corbyn Burnes. We made the playoffs in 2024 when most expected us to contend in 2026. The 2024 Mets team has been our best since 2015. Our lineup and pitching gave us a chance every game!

I don't really see the Dodgers going anywhere in the playoffs (by that, I mean maybe they win a series...or two???), but with all of the injuries to their pitching staff (way more important in the post-season), I just can't see them winning the crown this year unless Buehler can really step is up. Yamamoto and Flaherty will also have to be solid and one more of the young guys will have to step up. The bullpen is very solid, but they'll need to get hot at just the right time....I don't like the odds. .

All that being said, don't feel too sorry for Ohtani and Yamamoto. They are part of a team that lost 4 of their top starters most of the year or right before the playoffs and still had the best record in the Major Leagues. Hats off to the Mets. They struggled through the season and made the playoffs, so good on them. You never know for sure what's going to happen in a short series, but I don't think they have the horses to go anywhere.

"IF" they can sign a couple of guys like that, sure, next year looks brighter, but there are a LOT of other clubs out there with a LOT of bank.

Tigers advance!
Even though I'm a west coast guy, I've always liked the Tigers. When I was a very little guy, I followed baseball religiously and remember the '68 Tigers. McLain won 31 that year, but Lolich really saved their asses in the WS and won 3 games for them. Norm Cash at first, Willie Horton had a great year, Freehan was a really good catcher and they had one of my favs in right.....the legendary Al Kaline. And don't forget Gates Brown had one of the all time great seasons as a pinch hitter.
