⚾ The MLB Thread

The NY Mets currently hold the best record in baseball and are gaining momentum in the NL East. This team has continued its strong performance from last year, enjoying the top home-field advantage in the league while also maintaining a .500 record on the road. Juan Soto is on the verge of a breakout season, and I'm not worried about his slow start—he's in good company, as players like Piazza, Beltrán, and Lindor also experienced slow beginnings. Additionally, it's essential to extend the contract of the Polar Bear; he deserves to be a Met for life and appears more locked in than he was in 2019, putting up MVP-caliber numbers. Furthermore, I believe that Lindor should be named captain, with Nimmo as co-captain.

So......I'm glad to see the mighty A's living up to their potential!!! :funny:

They are currently 1 game over .500. In all seriousness, they had a really nice offseason and I really felt they could be over the 81 win mark. It's not that they are a terrible organization, it's just that they have no money. I used to love going to Oaktown to see them and wish they could have stayed in the Bay Area, but it was not to be. I wish them well in their new digs in LV and hope they can prop up the revenue. I might even make a trip or two out there to see them.

It's frustrating that I can't follow them as closely as I'd like. They don't get a lot of national airplay LOL.

The Dodgers went through a streak where they just weren't playing good baseball, but seem to have righted the ship lately and are tied with the Mets for the best record in MLB. The fact that they are where they are with Glasnow, Ohtani, and Snell all missing from their starting rotation really speaks to the depth they have. I don't think there's another team in the league that could lose 3 frontline, #1 quality starters and still win 2/3 of their games. Of course, they paid a LOT for that depth. Gonsolin was also out, but came back and pitched a really nice game in his first outing.

Well, it's not really a Major Leagues thing, but, Ladies and Gentlemen, let me introduce you to my new favorite team.

The El Paso Chihuahuas!!! Get your tickets NOW!!!

Interesting game tonight between the D-backs and Dodgers. The Dodgers are down 11-8 going into the 9th. They tie is up before Ohtani hits a 3 run bomb to win it 14-11. Kinda sounds like a game between the Panthers and Titans.

Down here, Shohei is now being referred to as "The Big Sho". How ya like them apples @Babillygunn ?

In more important news, the mighty (mumble or other....team without a city) Athletics are still tied for 2nd in the AL west and are above 500....

What a weird game last night between the Dodgers and Mets. The Dodgers used 8 pitchers and the Mets used 9 in the Dodgers 7-5 win. The gqme was delayed because rain was coming down in literal buckets. I don't know I've ever seen it rain that hard. There were also some weird obstruction calls and a sac fly call I didn't even know existed.

The obstruction call was on Muncy for blocking the line of sight of the runner even though he wasn't standing very close to the runner; who was called out. This was, IMO, a terrible call because it didn't affect the play and the runner clearly left at exactly the correct time. Then the same play was called on the METS!!! This time the runner scored and it had no effect on the score. Terrible calls and infielders do this ALL the time in MLB without being called for obstruction. I think the second one on the Mets was a make up call for blowing the first one, but this disadvantaged the Dodgers because the runner scored anyway and the Mets' runner was called out.

Then there was a call where a runner advanced from 1st to second on a bobbled fly ball to right center in the outfield. The Mets challenged the call on the basis that the runner left the bag before the catch (which he did), but the rule evidently is the runner can leave when the ball is "touched" and not "caught". I didn't even know about that rule, but, in retrospect, it seems reasonable. The runner can't be sure that the ball won't be bobbled and it would put him at an unfair disadvantage to have to wait to make sure there isn't a completed catch.

Strange, strange game......

My A's are slumping......they haven't won in about 2 weeks LOL. Those are the ups and downs in any teams MLB seasons, but I suspect the A's will have more of the latter than will the Dodgers, Mets, Phillies, Yanks, Tigers, etc..... oh well....

Gives us A's fans something to be happy about. LOL

Poor payback for what Winfield did to us in the ALCS. 😭

Man, what an athlete big Dave was..... :wow:

He was drafted in the NBA (Hawks), ABA (Utah Stars), NFL (Vikings), and the MLB (Padres). Other than me, I don't know of anyone else that happened to........

It is quite unbecoming for a 64-year-old man to act in this manner. Michael Kay, it’s time to grow up. However, I suspect that his behavior is influenced by his superiors, who instruct him to consistently criticize Juan Soto and misrepresent his intentions regarding his decision to remain a Met, or suggest that he regrets it. The Mets have already debunked this narrative.

The day after the Subway Series in Boston, Juan Soto clarified to the media that he has no regrets about signing with the Mets. He stated, “We have a good team; we’re never out of any game.” Additionally, Mets YouTubers highlighted that Michael Kay lied about Zach Wilson, showcasing a pattern of fabricating stories. Nevertheless, Kay continues to show up at tailgates at the beautiful Citi Field—a genuine ballpark—in stark contrast to the little league field where his Yankees play. Was his intention to incite a riot or provoke someone into throwing at him, hoping he could sue or insult us?

For years, it was the worst-kept secret in MLB that Juan Soto would eventually become a Met; it was only a matter of time. I also believe that the Yankees' security mistreated his family. I visited the old Yankee Stadium once, and it was the worst experience ever.

Congratulations to Pete Alonso on tying and surpassing David Wright! He has been incredibly clutch throughout the year. However, Major League Baseball must address the ongoing issue with umpires, as they frequently struggle to call balls and strikes accurately. If we reach the World Series and lose due to these mistakes, I will be extremely frustrated, especially considering we have the best record in the National League. I may be one of the few who believed in this team when I confidently said, “Bring on everybody!” at the start of the year. The media has noted that this Mets team has 1986 vibes. A year ago, they were saying to blow up the core; now we are the best team since 1986!
