Film šŸ“½ļø THE CINEMA LOUNGE

General Film
I saw Cruising with Al Pacino earlier this week. Really underrated. It’s a gritty slasher/thriller from the 80’s.

William Friedkin deserves more praise and cinematic love in the general sense. I highly recommend 'Sorcerer', which came out the same weekend as Star Wars and was buried at the box office and kinda forgotten for a while, but tis' a masterpiece. The only real bummer thing about it is the original cast that didn't pan out. Steve Mcqueen wanted a small role for his then wife (Ali MacGraw), Friedkin refused, which led to SM dropping out. Marcello Mastroianni took the role do to him wanting to work with McQueen, so he dropped out soon after. Friedkin has stated this being his biggest regret as a director. Anyway, enough of my ramblings ... bald @Kane52630 is wrong about John Wick.

Yup I’ve already seen Sorcerer and it’s probably my favorite of his. The French Connection is also great. I’ll be watching The Exorcist again during my October horror marathon. My To Live and Die in LA Blu-ray is coming in the mail shortly. Can’t wait to see that too. I’ve even seen his most recent movie ā€œKiller Joeā€ and it was solid as well. I’m surprised Friedkin is so underrated.

Sucks for you. :oldrazz:

I just watched To Live and Die in L.A. and it is one of Friedkin's best. Top three in my book. I'd put it above Sorcerer personally (I slightly prefer The Wages of Fear) Once again Friedkin delivers one of the best car chases ever.

William Peterson is a great actor. And the man had style.

Peterson has long been a favorite of mine. Loved him in Manhunter and Fear. :)

I feel like Manhunter doesn't get talked about enough. Obviously, Silence of the Lambs has overshadowed it but man that movie has Mann's iconic signature all over it.
It's that signature that makes it so perfect. As much as I like Edward Norton, Red Dragon was Manhunter's pale shadow. Manhunter had the perfect cast, the moodiness, and of course Mann's great taste in music. The soundtrack remains one of my favorites. :)

As I was watching the movie, I was repeating googling different questions about Marilyn. Stuff like was she really in a throuple…did she really call her husbands ā€œdaddyā€, etc…

Jeff Nichols making a motorcycle gang revenge flick with Hardy and Jodie Comer. My excitement needs to hold back. Goddamn.

Also, more folks should've seen 'Mud'. A great little flick that he did.

I liked Mud. I'll watch anything with McConaughey. :)

Mud was really good. Been meaning to watch it again.

Wish McConaughey would come back to acting more serious other than his podcast and vague political stuff. That McConaussaince was something else. He didn't miss for like 2 or 3 years at like 10 projects from 2010-2015. He hasn't done a full length project since 2019 with that Beach Bum movie and The Gentlemen which was actually pretty good too and it was nice to see the old Guy Ritchie back

Excited to see Jeff Nichols back too. Didn't realize it's been 6 years since his last project. I didn't realize he dropped out of the A Quiet Place spin off

I'll be watching that myself. :p

@DarthSkywalker have a David Harbour as Santa movie.

Love this conceptually, and love Harbour, but his voice just doesn't sell me on Santa. Dumb complaint, but would have been better with someone like Ray Stevenson or older (James Cosmo, Ian McElhinney) with a younger stuntman. With the beard and suit, stunt doubling ain't hard.

Or heck, Rory McCaan could have been perfect.

I think thats part of the joke.
