10.6 - Harvest - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

To be honest, Lana came off looking bad throughout most of season 1 in terms of her relationship with Whitney........

lol I guess when you put it that way, yeah she really wasn't the words greatest girlfriend. You can even point issues with the way she treated Jason near the end of S4 or Lex in S6(and this was before the whole baby plot) as not the greatest gf.

It's sort of funny, with her mom cheating on her dad while her great aunt was committing adultry they don't really paint that side of the family as the most faithful gf/wives. That's one thing I hate the show for writing in a female point of view, not one guy would stand up to Lana for all the crap she does to them(for whatever reason they forgive her and only want her more). Let's face it Whitney was the highschool QB, he could be banging cheerleaders left and right, why would he put up with all the crap Lana does(who as we found out in S4 was a virgin so that one more strike against dating her when you can have the time of your life).

To be honest, I really enjoyed this episode. It was a fun little sort-of spookfest with a great focus on Lois and Clark's relationship. Anyone else impressed with the way they've been handled through these first few episodes? Chalk it up to the reduced core cast, the last season, something else, or all of the above, but they've had a great development and lovely consistency with these two characters, and it seems to be continuing wonderfully. I'm so glad that not all of Clark's explaining about himself was left to Offscreenville. Bringing back the journal was a nice touch. The Blue Kryptonite device wasn't as interesting as I thought it would be, and the village of the crazy was a little much, but overall it was a fun little out-of-town trip, both for our characters as well the audience. Those opening scenes set against those gorgeous (Kansas?) mountains were, well, just freaking gorgeous. I want to go to there. It felt very refreshing to be outside of Smallville and Metropolis' one street, and yet still feel right whenever Lois and Clark were on screen. Not to say the Tess' "B" storyline wasn't good... It was. Seeing that young Lex actor again was great! Fantastic casting, crew. This has, I think, been good material for Cassidy to work with, and the ending with the head shaving... super creepy, and expertly juxtaposed to that very nice (if also a little cheesy) love scene.

Lastly, Clark's dialogue that Lois is "the one" and that she always will be would, I think, fall totally flat and meaningless if it weren't for A) Erica Durance, and B) episodes like this that, though sidestepping any villain storylines or other season arcs, show exactly why Lois and Clark make such a great couple. I think what helps make this episode work is the continuity and, like I said before, consistency with which they've been developing their relationship thus far this year. If they can keep this quality up for the rest of the year, I really do think this will end up being the best season of Smallville out of all of them.

I figured some folks would hate on this ep, but I really liked it. Even though it was a "filler" episode, it was still a well done one, and the acting all around (save for the little girl) was top notch. See, I don't mind "fillers" as long as they're well done.

One of the things about Smallville so far this season is that it's being done well week to week. That wasn't always true in the past. Before, you could tell when cast and crew were coasting. This year, though, everyone's firing on all cylinders.

I'd hold up the first six eps of Season Ten against the first six of any past season.

ok, then how about this: the badguy should come back out til the very end... ie. not again til the last three episodes of the series... we should only see minions, and minor teases 'til the finale episode. Hows that?
Yeah im not saying we should see him right now. Im saying they could be sticking to an awesome darkseid story, building him up whilst giving us more of clark lois and lex instead of filling the episode up with randomness

I totally agree this season and last season for me its been pretty consistant from episode to episode. Which I really like.

I don't mind good fillers and I didn't mind this episode at all. I love Erica and nearly all Lois/Clois centric episodes. But compared to the other episodes this didn't hit it.

I really enjoyed this episode for that fact that it was to help share more of Lois and Clarks relationship. I guess it was kinda fitting for a Halloween release, I did like the "Scarecrow-ish" masks the town people wore.

And, I will confess, that Tess is growing on me, and I may actually have a crush on her now. I like this new turn she has.

I started to feel this way last week, and it's continuing. Of course, some of that may have to do with the interviews and behind-the-scenes videos I've watched of Cassidy Freeman. It's amazing to me that such a sweetheart could play a very cold (at times) character.

I thought I was the only one. I never liked Tess before, but she's been growing on me, mostly because Cassidy seems like a stand up gal.

You're kidding right? Jason? Lex?

Do you actually know any real women? This is so sexist and offensive that I'm not sure if you're serious or just trying to stir the pot. Either way, goodbye.

Jason seemed like a nice enough guy who basically told his mother off to be with Lana. He really didn't start going cuckoo till he saw Lana dancing with Clark and it only got progressively worse after the fact when Lana started to lose interest in him and gain interest back in Clark. Wouldn't it just be better if he told her to screw off an go enjoy his life?

In the case of Lex, sure he may be no angel but even Lana did the wishy washy thing with him before she had any reason to treat him bad.

A little from category A, a little from category B. I saw this article a few months ago about Twilight and this to me explained everything wrong with the way the show written Lana(especially in later seasons)

http://theoatmeal.com/story/twilight

As a guy watching the show many times I question why would the male characters put up with so much hassle for Lana and like the article I showed above points out the Lana character wasn't written for males to relate to. Maybe my comments about Whitney were a little over the top to make a point, but my basic point was Whitney could be having the time of his life being the star QB in Highschool, instead of dating a girl(a freshman no less) who was wishy washy and constantly whining about one thing or another.

I think the main problem with the Lana character and all the guys she dated is the show written her like she was ok for doing what she did to the guys(being wishy washy constantly looking to see if the grass was greener on the other side) and they would run back to her no matter what and the only reason I can come up with why the writers/producers did that was well she is Lana.

Actually, he started to go Cuckoo before that. In the episode Sacred he ran off to China to do research without telling her that he was going and what he was going to do there. Then he drove the final nail into the coffin when Lana walked in on him beating up Lionel in the episode Lucy, over the you know whats. She had a hunch about him, set out to prove it, and she was right.

Spirit and the prom dance came after all those events.

Torture yourself and rewatch the season again, because Lex did plenty to cause Lana to react the way she did before she found out about what he really did to her. Remember the spyware??? She was very loving and supportive to him up until that point.

Lana did have faults (like all the characters), and she knew what those faults were, but that didnt make her the bad, horrible unfaithful person that many make her out to be. She was just a real person.

Anyway, how did the Harvest thread get taken over by Lana Beating.:whatever:

I laughed really hard when I read that but only because you blow my mind.

It should also be pointed out he gave the stone to her then she proceded to steal it from herself before these events happened after giving a speech about why is there relationship bout the stones.

She wasn't a real person, she was a poorly written fictional character/borderline Mary Sue. All I remember was for Lex and Lana seemed happy together just before Hydro when Lana starts having second thoughts and when it goes public she seems to have limited remorse. Let's not forget during this time before she gets married she feels it's ok to spy on Clark(if she feels that strong about Clark, why not go ask him herself and dump Lex)

I kinda feel sorry for the villagers. Now they have seen a "prophet" they will go even more crazy. Sure some will take the Clark situation and might reform, but some may also think that what they believe in is even more true and the right path.

I like the first Five Minutes of this episode.

Clark: Just wish we found them sooner. We could have saved so many lives. I Just don't understand how the believers would allow themselves to be lead down such a dark path.

Lois: I guess there's so much chaos out there, people are just desperate for something to give them hope. Now more than ever, the world needs someone to believe in.

Clark: I think I know where this going.

Lois : Hear me out, Clark. Okay, I wasn't a big fan of Ollie's coming-out party, and I used to think that it was best for you to stay in the shadows, too, but maybe someday soon, you'll have to step into the light. You can be a symbol to inspire everyone that this planet could be a better place.

Clark: I'm not sure anyone's ready to believe a stranger from a strange land.

Lois: If they know the real Clark Kent, then I am sure the rest of the world will believe in you as much as I do.

I love how supportive Lois is of Clark becoming Superman
