10.17 -Kent- Episode Discussion (Spoilers)

I was talking to a friend of mine, over email, about "Kent" and told him that I was confused about a couple of things that happened in this episode, and he made a really good point. He said......
I enjoy most shows and movies because I don’t really sit there and analyze them. Lost was an exception because the analysis was part of the show and the producers and writers encouraged it. I am a huge fan of the Stargate series, but if I sat and questioned every thing that didn’t make sense, I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the show. If it isn’t vital to the main story, then it isn’t really a big deal. Alternate universes are never portrayed the way they should be, and are typically simply a plot device to further the story. If it was a true alternate universe than there would be a lot more different than there was. My biggest question would be why Clark is the only one who is drastically different. According to Chaos Theory, the fact that Luthor found him instead of Kent, would have drastically changed everything.

I am guilty of over analyzing episodes just like a lot of people do, and I think if we simply don't do it then we will actually enjoy it a lot more. What do you guys think?

The only thing that came out of no where was Jor-El being able to send Clark Luthor back at will. Why did not not send Lionel back already ?

That's a good question. Never thought of that. I guess they should have just used the mirrorbox that Emile and Lois fixed. But whatever, right?

Also what is stopping Clark from going back there to check on Jonathan freely every now & then ? Why use the Fortress if they got the Mirror Box working again ? That makes no sense

It would have made more sense to me if Emil had been able to get the mirror box working just one time, but it didn't last hence the need to seek out AI Jor-El for help.

It should have been that AI Jor-EL was able to restore the broken box for them to use instead of just transporting CL at will.

Ugh, just more reasons why the finale can't get here soon enough

So when I started going in forums and other sites to learn something more about it, it was the exact same thing as it is now - people *****ing and complaining about it all the time, how it doesn't follow the comics, how Clark doesn't fly or wear a costume, how it "shoves the relationships down our throats", how Clark "can't do nothing on his own", how some character should not be around all the time and I can go on and on. It's hilarious to see how ten years later, the same types of people still complain about the same types of things. But the thing is, many of them say that Smallville was better in the past, while ignoring the fact how much they were trashing it back then too. This final season really exposed many people for the naive hypocrites who they are. And that is just one of the many examples why sometimes the majority of the Smallville fanbase sickens me.

LOL

Yep, some things never change, people watching a show they hate or find illogical, full of plot holes, etc, etc. :o

Speaking of Lost, as most sci-fi shows, it had its plot holes and illogical stuff, but still was a great series, Battlestar Galactica the same. If we're going to focus on every little detail, then we're not going to really enjoy anything, nothing is perfect. Like I said, we could find flaws everywhere, everytime if we wanted, is just too easy. Why Lionel doesn't kill Clark with K-nite? Why Darkseid doesn't do this, that, etc, etc...

I'm going to relax and enjoy what is left, I know I'm not going to like certain things, but that's life, is impossible to please everybody 100% of the time. :word:

So, pretty much the "shut off your brain approach?"

Yeah, if you aren't critical about something, you're likely going to enjoy it more.

Just follow the MST3K Mantra:

"If you're wondering how he eats and breathes / And other science facts / Then repeat to yourself 'It's just a show, / I should really just relax '"

I loved how Erica delivered of

"Clark Kent, if I wasn't late, I'd kick your bullet-proof ass right now!!'

:hrt: I haven't seen the episode as of yet, but my jaw is firmly planted on the floor. Loving seeing Cassidy like this.

donut I don't see how ai jorel sending clark luthor back to his world was so much of a stretch. Like I pointed out back a page. The fos can time travel, block out the sun, give/take owers, open/close portals to the pz. So how hard is it to think that sending someone to an alt dimension is that tricky.

I loved the episode, it was great seeing Jonathan again and the whole Clark Luthor storyline.

given the amount of money that writers etc are paid, the plot, narrative and delivery should always hold up to scrutiny, no matter how intense. It's a large part of how I judge a show, after being analyzed, does it still hold up to standard? It should IMO for any show, within the context of its setting and universe.

will you be happier if you don't? probably... there is bliss in being ignorant. But then there are all the other things that go along with being so.

why is only Clark different? Prolly because the alternate universe is accessed by a kryptonian device...yada yada yada bla bla bla

I get what your saying, but at the same time, SV has a lot more holes, and an incredible amount of convenient explain it away instances. More than those you mentioned.

Well, I really enjoyed this episode. Wasn't home Friday so had it taped, just got to watch it last night. What I liked was the reverse dynamic of father and son. I also felt it was an important story, beccause it taught Clark he can give hope to others. And can even help out someone like Clark Luthor. Sad part is that is something that could be used as a plot device in an 11th season.

You know, something like Clark goes back to the parellel universe to find Clark Luthor ruler of the earth thanks to the Clark Kent showing him how to use the fortress.

Yes I agree there were plot and logic holes in the episode, but they happen all the time. I think we need to look pass them and enjoy the ride.

The preview for booster looked great!

I would have preferred Earth-2 to have been the exact opposite of Earth-1. Clark, Oliver, Lois, etc. are evil while Lionel and Lex are good. Earth-2 is more of a "what if" scenario where Lionel finds Clark instead of the Kents. So far the show has dealt with two situations: what if Clark never arrived to Earth (Apocalypse) and what if Clark was raised by the Luthors intead of the Kents.

Ya it would have been neat if they did a full evil alt verse deal. But I guess the producers/writers had there reasons to just be clark change.

Smallville could just be like the DCU where there are multiple Earths, so there could be one where things really are the opposite.

That is true. No different then star trek. We got the mirror universe, hundreds of other universes, and now the jj abarams parallel dimension with altered history.

just finished the review, great as always trip. Just a few more to go. Going to really miss your reviews.
