10.8 - Abandoned - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

I thought Lionel gave her away for the same reason he gave Lucas away. She was simply not the child of his wife. According to Smallville Wiki, Tess was born in 1979 which I guess was referenced in Turbulence.

So, why didn't he give Tess away the second she was born but waited till she was around 4-6 years old?

It had to have been because Lex was just born...

Did they explicitly state why Lionel gave Tess up? I've only seen the episode once so I could have missed it.

No...

Just that she was around 5 years old looking when he droped her at Granny's.

Maybe she was "hidden" from Lillian and Lex for a few years and then he finally decided to get rid of her completely.

Her name is Lutessa? I thought she said Contessa at the end... I guess it fits with the L names, but what the **** kind of name is Lutessa?

Well, just from BookFace there seems to be a few real life Lutessa's lol...

Awesome episode!! Granny grim was creepy as hell! lol Loved it

So, this is the new official Lionel Luthor offspring tree;

1. Lutessa Lena Luthor (Tess Mercer)
+ Born November 12th, 1979
+ Mother was Pamela Jenkins

2. Alexander Joseph Luthor (Lex Luthor)
+ Born _____, XX 1980?
+ Mother was Lillian Luthor

2a. Lex Luthor (Lex Luthor V2)
+ Cadmus Labs clone

2b. Alexander _____ Luthor (Lex Luthor V3)
+ Cadmus Labs clone

3. Julian _____ Luthor
+ Born _____, XX 1991?
+ Mother was Lillian Luthor

3a. Grant Gabriel (Julian Luthor V2)
+ Project Gemini clone

3b. Adrian Cross (Julian Luthor V3)
+ Project Gemini clone

4. Lucas _____ Luthor
+ Born _____, XX 1984?
+ Mother was Rachel Dunleavy

I like the fact that TPTB have shown that Lex has not advanced his father's cloning process since Lex V2 and Alexander (Lex V3) both have rapid aging defects like Grant Gabriel and Adrian Cross...
nice finds there, though they have been off with ages before. Like last yr if i recall they changed how old ollie was when parents died or what not. So some dates could be a little off.

I thought Lex was the oldest of Lionel Luthor's children with Tess second.

Here are the screentimes, according to Torwolf:
Clark - 17 mins
Lois - 17 mins
Tess - 15 mins
Granny Goodness - 13 mins
Ella - 3 mins
Jor-El - 2 mins
Lara - 2 mins
Mad Harriet - 2 mins

the writers of this show must be bi-polar
one week it's good, the next it sucks.

this whole season was supposed to be darksied crazyness cunning.
but every second week it's this lois crap and her dad or something.

and enough with these kryptonite hindered battles.

screen times were very well rounded out tonight. i dont see how things are bad. The clark and lois stuff been moving along well. Sure darkseid stuff havent been to focused yet. But there is plently of time to do it. Plus the whole anti heroes/sucide squad is in play too to round out things. And it will probably be the story how the public will trust the heroes and they all come out of the shade(not revealing ids mind you) and all that.

Teri was great and didn't look that far off from when she was on Lois and Clark  I gotta say in the debate that goes on between who is better, Teri sure comes off more natural in her acting.

nothing wrong with lutessa its a real name. plus now we have tess is a in canon/comic character.

Not a big fan of the name, but not a big fan of that story line it brings her into either :-/ meh

oh sure i didnt want her to be a luthor either myself. But how they did it worked out pretty well.

My issue with Tess being a Luthor is it seems...too on the nose(I believe that's the term)? Ever since Tess was introduced, I always had my suspicions about her origins, so now that they're finally revealed, for me it seems anti-climactic. But of course, YMMV, it just makes me go, "hmm.."

I very much enjoyed Lois' scenes "with" her mother, gotta admit I was a bit choked up towards the end. Seeing Lois rummaging through Clark's belongings to find the Kawatchee Cave map and the FoS Key was fairly amusing, but a little sloppy on Clark's part just leaving it behind a bookshelf! :D

The Granny Goodness and Furies scenes felt extremely rushed, which is a damn shame as I quite enjoyed them. Actually hearing Darkseid's name spoken out loud was a treat, and seeing that Desaad and GG are inhabitants of Apokalips and not just humans was amazing.

Erica's line delivery in the FoS felt awkward and stilted, but I suppose it's difficult trying to emote to a bunch of crystals. As emotional as the final recording of Jor-El and Lara was, it sort of rubbed me the wrong way that that hologram had never been shown to Clark prior to that moment. You would think the Fortress would show Clark the recording when he was constantly suspicious of Jor-El motives. But, ehhh, whatever.

i thought granny and furies were good, would have liked more with furies. But for all we know there is plently of time left for them to get a few more episodes focused.

I'd prefer Contessa than Lutessa. I've always felt she was more like Contessa del Portenza than Mercy Graves and Miss Teshmacher. With her name now being Lena Luthor, maybe she can have a daughter named Lori. This would also mean that she doesn't die at the hands of Lex. She loved Lionel in contrast to Lex's relationship and I can see her slapping Lex for killing Lionel.

This would make her and Lana sisters-in-law when Lana married Lex. I think Lex knew of Tess' origins and had a reason to chose her to run LuthorCorp in his absence and not some random employee.

I like it when Clark and Tess were working together, especially in their scenes in Watchtower and the orphanage. If she turns against Clark and the group, it's not going to be because of Lex, but likely Darkseid and his minions. :super:

I don't think anyone mentioned this but....did Clark ever go back for that little girl? Granny obviously made a point of leaving her tied to that chair, and Clark freed her and told her to hide in that room. When she finds her, I would imagine that Granny will take this episode's setback out on that child....

On a related note, what happened to Granny as she was trying to wipe Clark's memories? She just vanished. Reminds me of when Clark busted through the holographic generation of the Blur in Charade and Maxwell Lord just disappears.

I was trying to put my daughter to bed when Clark was tied up. How did he escape?

she was probably saved and we just didnt see it. we dont see everything that happens to every little character and all that. As for lex ya he probably learned of tess after the whole lucas stuff. While he was looking for information on lionel way back when. Cant wait to see what they do with tess now.
