just caught this today very sad video

Omg... words just fail after watching that.

I respect different cultures, even when they baffle me, up to a point. This definitely goes far past that line. I don't care if this custom of child-brides has been happening for hundreds or thousands of years, it's barbaric and inhuman.

It would be different if her husband were even remotely her age and they did not consumate the marriage until they were older but sadly that's almost never the case in these kinds of arranged marriages.

The crazy part is, she ran away to her uncle. So people within her own family think its crazy. Her mother is a disgrace.

This is sad. This girl should be playing with her friends and having fun not worrying about arranged marriages and girls her age hurting themselves. I don't see how this doesn't fall under inhumane treatment and warrant some kind of international intervention. Not military intervention, but some kind of black-balling maneuver to force its stop.

The strange part is, the girl's parents seem to be operating some kind of con game here, if you look at the story of her serially-engaged older sister.

It is for the most part but there are no real enforcable ways to stop it either. The best that can be expected is a lot of harsh condemnaton followed by shrugging their shoulders and doing nothing else.

Oh geez I saw something about this a few days or a week ago and I didn't read the headline because it was heartbreaking. I didnt know she had escaped, just that she posted a video. I knew it'd end with her dead. Glad her uncle is an actual human. Nations that put rape victims in jail, allow these arranged marriages, etc should have all economic sanctions enforced and internationally ridiculed. I would personally be okay with bombing their capital buildings but I know that's not okay with the public and it's me being a Templar (the TV tropes kind, not the actual historical kind).
