I'm sorry. Is the WBC suggesting that these people deserved to die because they went to see a movie?

What exactly are these psychos protesting?

They believe that Americans die because America allows homosexuals rights...pretty much.

And they're aware that neo-nazis, Arian Brotherhood members, and KKK clansmen die as well, right?

Forgive me, what is WBC?

They're an alleged church that likes to picket funerals (and get themselves on TV) claiming that whoever died was God's punishment for the US thinking gay people should be treated as equals.

They're idiots, and they should really just stop getting airtime, because it's all they want anyway.

Speaking of which...let's move away from this subject.

Yes, as the government knows all and is always right. Not saying you believe this, but using the "government" to support your claim if you are, is well embarrassing. Dude was a terrorist idiot.
My point is is that I'm not the only one with that point of view. :o

Some of them may be in the hospital and cant get access to the Hype, if that is the case. But it is unlikely we will ever know.

We wondered this after 9-11, too.

I still remember finally making it home to NJ on 9/11, seeing the cars that hadn't been picked up yet at the park & ride, and wondering who wasn't going to be back to get theirs. It's an awful feeling.

It was awful to watch on TV from halfway across the country as the second tower fell. I cant imagine what it would have been like so close to the city.

Ugh, I just really hope this one incident doesn't hurt the future for realistic, dark superhero movies or more Batman films. I just have the sneaky suspicion that this box office is gonna tank and drop further come Sunday.

It won't, and I don't think many really care about that right now....

They are probably discussing this in the BO thread in the Batman Forum, which is a better place to discuss it than on this thread....

It was bizarre, since I was in midtown and a safe distance away from it, but at the same time I was watching it on TV and the real thing out the window just behind it. It felt like it was far away, but I don't think it hit me until later that we were so close to everything.

I'll never forget this girl we spoke to on the train back to NJ. She was in the second tower and she kept going about how she almost went back for her jacket before she got out of the building. She was laughing a little about it, but she kept repeating it.

It's the everyday stuff that gets left behind that hits you. It's like, 'wait, they were just here...'.

Understandably, I'm just pondering aloud the possible ramifications this could have on media or society as a whole. I doubt it'll hurt the movie industry but I'm sure ticket sales may plummet for a while for every film. Do you guys think this could turn into another Columbine scaled incident or do you think it'll pass? I'm sort've hoping it passes by the end of this weekend, I'm sure the families want their peace and privacy.

Just look at how past incidents like Columbine and Virginia Tech impacted the same things and take it from there.

The media has been checking movie theaters in their area all day....and most have said that they see no change, and when they interview people, they say that this is not going to keep them from going to the movies....and lines were still around the block for TDKR...

I remember it was Paula Zahn's first day at CNN...she is sitting there at the anchor desk, and all of this happens. She doesn't know any of the reporters names, and she is trying to cover this story....its weird what you remember.

Man, it was crazy. I was in 6th grade at the time and I saw the first tower fall at school from a bathroom. I was scared ****.

That's great. I'm less worried about the box office returns and more worried about it mentally affecting people's view of their theater experiences. I'd hate to see such a past-time tainted.

I never knew the guy but its amazing that a random act of violence that I saw on TV has a local connection.

Just goes to show that we are all connected in some way. You may not have known him, but because of your connection to him I now know of him and somewhat of his story.

We are all connected, believe that.

Also, as a human being I would like nothing more than to see this man get what he has coming to him for what I think he deserves by hurting and killing so many.

But as a Christian I am slightly torn, cause I know and believe that saying or wishing that he receives the death penalty is not the right thing to do as a Christian based on my faith. I should be praying for this man that he finds God, that God saves his soul (I know this may be confusing to many of you as it is sometimes to me). I should be praying that his man eventually turns his life over to God and ask for forgiveness of his sins and that he truly means it. I should be praying for this man as I am the victims, their families, and friends for that is true Christianity. Yeah, at times it makes no sense to us ordinary people, but that is the point. I should be doing these things, and I haven't or as much as I should.

I'm not for the death penalty; however, I have never had someone close to me be taken in such a way. I only pray that my strength as a Christian remains in case something like this does happen to me or someone very close.

I ask many of you to pray for the families, for the victims and yes in some way for this man. It's hard and if it doesn't make sense to you please find a spiritual leader, a book of your choosing if you would like. I repeat if you should like.

I want this man to be punished for what he has done and justice to be found, but I don't want more death even if it is "lawful punishment" death brought on by the legal system.

I apologize if anyone is offended, but I don't wish to be silent about my Christianity and ask that all remember that tolerance includes religious beliefs.

This is exactly my feeling about having my friend's friend one of the people shot in this incident. I never met the man, but it's a very weird feeling that something so far away is so closely connected. And you're right, we are all connected, it doesn't matter how far away an incident is.

I won't speak on the religious part of this post. I'm not religious, and I don't share those beliefs, but it is not my place to argue someone else's beliefs either.

Also, about the WBC thing - that group has to just be doing this as a gimmick at this point.

The Bible says that the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness. Jesus said "you will know them by their fruits."

Those of us that are true Christians are praying for these hurting families, and it would never cross our mind to protest grieving people. Jesus went and wept at the tomb of Lazarus, with his sisters, even though he would raise him from the dead just a short time after. That is how Christians should act toward others in pain.

I feel awful that these greiving families will have to face scoffers and wicked heartless people like the WBC. But the best thing you can do, to combat what they do, is to show love and compassion towards these victims and their families.

And like a true Christian that compassion also goes towards the shooter as well. That's what a true Christian would do anyways.

I would not want to be anywhere near that conversation....

I would. With my afterlife cell phone to upload the conversation to Heaven's YouTube page.

I'll know I did something right if somehow my funeral ends up protested by the WBC.

In fact... I wonder if I can make that happen...

Absolutely, we pray for the shooter that he would repent for his actions. He will face consequences for what he has done, but Christ died for all sins and grace is being forgiven for things that you don't deserve to be forgiven. But it does require repentance and confession of guilt.
