12 killed in Colorado shooting at Dark Knight Rises premiere - Part 2

Good lord, I might could see that from the very first pic we saw of him....I was totally shocked at how normal he looked.....and looks like many of my students....clean cut, etc.......but, good lord after that court appearance?????? yuk...

He was a nice-looking kid...before he became a psychopathic killer. I'll never understand what anyone would find attractive about him now.

I know serial killers have had their fans, but it's a different thing now when those fans decide to broadcast their love on the internet. Apparently some of those Twitter feeds were spammed by so many people calling them idiots that a bunch of them were either made private or shut down completely.

I think the problem with correlating the shooting with the Batman movies isn't so much that he apparently called himself the Joker. I haven't heard anyone trying to prosecute this guy blame the movie or any of the characters for why he did this.

The problem is that now when anything happens at a movie theater - things that are so mundane that they never would have made the news two weeks ago - the media is reporting it as 'another incident' where TDKR is playing. They're the ones making it out like there's trouble going on wherever this movie is playing, and it's turning people off from going to see the movie.

That's what I meant about disservice. TDKR is still prevailing but a lot of people are still freaked out. Then you have idiots playing pranks. I don't think anything can be done at this point though.

Still, all I read on here is about distancing the tragedy from the character and then we applaud the victims for wearing Batman shirts. Isn't that what some of you on here have wanted. To stop calling this "The Dark Knight massacre" and the like. Seems counterproductive in this case.

It's almost like playing into this guy's sick fantasy. I don't know his real mental state but if he wanted that Joker connection it will seem more prevalent with Batman shirts in the courtroom.

It's a bit freaky that Holmes has fandom now, they call themselves holmies. Is Holmes trying to be C. Manson or something
WTF is wrong with people? I hate to compare this dude to Joker, but this makes the whole Harley Quinn thing creepier than before, I mean here's a quote from an actual fan:
i am a seventeen year old who since i can recall, has always had a fascination with serial killers/murderers. you name it. collumbine? ted bundy? btk? i love them. do i mean i love that they killed people? of course not. i would never kill anyone and i feel for the families who have lost loved ones. however, i'm always intrigued as to why they committed these crimes. how did they do it? what goes through their minds?
Freakin' crazy man. http://www.buzzfeed.com/ryanhatesthis/a-guide-to-the-dark-world-of-the-james-holmes-inte

He wrote on his relationship profile" Will you visit me in prison". I guess it doesn't take much for these idiots.

What's interesting about that last quote on his profile page, is the fact that that was done before all of this happened...he cannot get away from the premeditation....AND....that goes to show that HE KNEW WHAT HE WAS PLANNING...was wrong...he knew he was going to prison for it.

Good, they should not be able to speak in public....or type for that matter.

No, that was just reading the counts against him....it could be another month and a half before we know his plea.....and then probably another 9 to 12 months before the trial....

Ah okay. Good enough. The last thing they need to do is rush this whole thing in and make a verdict so close to the tragedy.

Holmes was charged with 142 counts. I think he'd be better off being charged with 2,000 volts of electricity.

I shouldn't be laughing at this.

No I really shouldn't.

The funny thing is that is the one issue I have seen most internet nerds having with this whole thing. That his hair isn't green. Yeah, those killings were horrible, but his hair color being inaccurate...that just crosses the line. :oldrazz:

Epic... Fail. On dude's part. And you know it.

have they said if they are going to pursue the death penalty for this guy?

normally, I'm more in favor for life in prison. but, in cases like this, I really wouldn't shed a tear........

I think it depends on your view towards the death-penalty as it is. It's no doubt he'd be facing that, and i think i read somewhere that he will be. I'm not sympathetic towards mass-murderers or anything but yeah i wouldn't really say I'm all dandy with a death-penalty either.

I mean, psychological purgatory just seems so much more fitting :o

But i dunno. They do have juries on trials like these right?

EXACTLY jesus you dont have to be a brainsurgeon to know this guy was nuts but he wasn't bat-**** to the point of being out of control of his actions. Bring that conservative hammer DOWN, American Judiciary.

I remember seeing two girls who were in the theater being interviewed, and they both said he looked totally calm, that he knew exactly what he was doing like it was planned. And this was just hours after it happened, when they knew very little about who he was. He's going to be so screwed when it comes to proving this was premeditated.

His counsel is not going to waste time on trying to prove it wasn't premeditated...they are going to spend ALL OF THEIR TIME, keeping him alive, and that is it. All, of those counts can stick, easily.....the only leg the defense team has to stand on, is #1....competency which will probably come in a few weeks.....#2. If he is found competent to stand trial, then insanity.

One thing people should know about Colorado law....the Prosecution does not get to have their experts examine him....only the defense....that definitely goes in their favor. I believe all the Prosecution can do is cross examine the expert.

Well, if the media insists on continuing to use the Joker's name in the same breath as this maniac, would it be so much for them to point out that even though this ****tard allegedly called himself the joker at the scene, he completely ****ed up in that regard? I don't think anyone is saying that the hair thing is a bigger issue than the victims, but it's kind of annoying that, with as many times as The Joker has been brought up in news coverage, no one has pointed out that the Joker has green hair not orange.

Because it's not worth pointing out.

Not only is this issue not bigger than the victims, but the color of his hair in comparison to a comic book character shouldn't be an issue, period.

Well then they should stop bringing up The Joker, shouldn't they?

Yea, sure, except it's part of the story via Holmes claiming that title during this whole situation.

Yet people are getting all worked up, trying to defend the honor and perception of a fictional character in the wake of a tragedy where real lives were lost.

Another moment where I have to use the  and  icons.

It's really helps separate the adults from children.

I don't get why people are trying to defend the honor of a fictional character that most people aren't going to treat any differently due to this tragedy.

It's not about "defending the honor" of a character. At least not for me, it isn't. It's about the media frequently attributing the actions of a psychopath to a certain character without noting that the guy clearly knew nothing about the character to begin with.

The character of the Joker has hair dyed an unusual color, and Holmes called himself "Joker." That is all that matters (relating to the media's coverage of the Joker angle, obviously what really matters is the tragedy that occurred).

Who cares if the color is different? :whatever:

Guys, lets dial it down a few....ok? I don't need any excuses as to why the thread went haywire....I just want the thread to chill out.

Thank you....

About Holmes ' fandom'... these people, they don't necesarilly condone his actions, or thinks that what's he's done is cool. they're ...fascinated by him. It's a subtle distinction.

And yeah, it's sick i know. But this kind of things has been going on forever.

Only now, when you can put it all over the internet...they look like even bigger idiots.

On the lighter side of the news, I just went to the Lincoln Square theater in NYC to get a ticket to one of the IMAX shows tonight (it's the only 'real' IMAX screen in the city)...it's sold out already. :argh:

Got a ticket for tomorrow instead. But it's nice to see the shows are still selling out despite everything else.
