Eh, I have a good friend who is really intrigued by serial killers and the like. It's not really "disgusting", it's just an interest into the workings of the mind of people who would do something like this. It's more a fascination of a specific type of knowledge.

There was a Time-Life book series about famous serial killers, and my aunt actually ordered them. She yelled at my dad for looking through the Jeffrey Dahmer one saying he was looking for recipes.

There's a whole culture for it, but I'll never get it. I read a book last year about how they solved the murder of Adam Walsh, only because that story creeped me out so much as a kid...but it was so disturbing I don't think could read another book like that.

I'm not deep into it like those people are, but I often times find myself researching the stories and situations behind some of these serial killers / mass killings. I find it interesting to research the motivations that go into something like this.

Obviously, the acts themselves are disgusting, but that's what makes it interesting - how could someone be so far gone in the head to do something so vile?

I think it's disturbing because you tend to find out that these guys were pretty much a heartbeat away from normal, like you.

I had to take 2 classes in college on serial killers....it is quite interesting...so I can understand the desire to know more.

On the lighter side of the news, I just went to the Lincoln Square theater in NYC to get a ticket to one of the IMAX shows tonight (it's the only 'real' IMAX screen in the city)...it's sold out already. :argh:

Got a ticket for tomorrow instead. But it's nice to see the shows are still selling out despite everything else.

They just started a new TV promotion push this week....the promo is EXCELLENT...and it of course, with each scene shows snipits from the critics etc....VERY GOOD PROMOTION....

Have you ever read Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood"....I had to read it for one of my Criminal Justice classes.....TOTALLY creeped me out....

I can't remember the book, I think it was called "Victims" its about this murder: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hi-Fi_murders I had to read it for a victimology class I took....OMG, it was terrible.

I saw one of those last night, it looked great. I'm still bummed I got sold out of the movie tonight, I was looking forward to that.

I haven't read Capote's book, but that's supposed to be one of the definitive crime books, right?

The book I read was called "Bringing Adam Home". I was one of those kids who'd been completely traumatized by that TV movie "Adam" as a kid, particularly because they'd never found the killer. I knew they'd finally charged the guy, but there was a news story promoting the book about how they were able to close it, so I wound up getting it for the kindle and checking it out. That was awful. I don't know if I could read one of those again.

Yes Truman Capote has you absolutely adoring this family, and then slam...I've actually seen the gallows where they guys who murdered the Kansas family were hung. I had to tour prison systems around the country for a class that I took....we traveled for about 3 weeks touring different prisons. Kansas correctional system is ROUGH......

I don't get why people are trying to defend the honor of a fictional character that most people aren't going to treat any differently due to this tragedy.

If the character becomes part of the blame or is closely associated we get into censorship issues

Doubtful.....

The most devastating detail in that book is when someone lightly mentions that Bobby Rupp [BLACKOUT]has got married.[/BLACKOUT]

The sense that everything eventually moves on, and tragedy just fades away, actually had me in tears on a crowded train.

I used to read alot of crime novels. I could be on an FBI tracking list but was only intrigued and trying to understand more about the human mind. I only see issues when someone celebrates a killer. Some of these girls are taking it too far.

HAHAhahaha!

Not at home to provide links but that first few day s people were trying. Of course it died down and is less of an issue now. We need to to focus on gun laws , among other things.

Psychiatrist Called Threat Team About Aurora Shooting Suspect James Holmes

http://news.yahoo.com/psychiatrist-...ect-james-215740780--abc-news-topstories.html

Not sure if this is good or bad for this guys insanity plea, but what the hell Colorado U? "The guy quit so I guess he's not our problem anymore," is a pretty horrible attitude to have.

Oh wow, I don't think they can be held in any kind of accountability, but damn....my question now is.....was he still going to this Psychiatrist, and why didn't the Psychiatrist warn someone....besides just this committee....especially since they thought he was a "threat"...

They technically aren't accountable, but really should be do some degree. Especially since even in the article it says what a huge red flag it should have been that he dropped out for no apparent reason after being labeled a "threat."

It could depend on the level of threat they considered him. He might of been flagged for something minor and not considered an immediate threat. It's just aggravating knowing there might of been a chance to prevent this but I don't think anything will come from it. Sounds like they just washed their hands with this once he left though.

A threat is a threat that should be looked at and followed through on, whether he was a threat to himself, or to others.....ya know....I wish they followed the criteria we have to in the public school system, as a teacher, I am required by law to turn something like that over to my principal, and that principal is required by law to inform the proper authorities...IMMEDIATELY. We don't have a choice....

These colleges are making some pretty stupid decisions these days....

there is a difference between studying guys like this for research or profiling, that can be interesting or there are idiots who worship these sick ****s

look at the British nut Raoul Moat he went on a rampage and now actually has a facebook page dedicated to his memory and people saying he was a hero

I wish it had been the same case here. I'm not defending these people. I'm just trying to understand why they let someone like this walk away. It seemed like Dr. Fenton was really pushing for something to be done about this.
