Looking at the SD spoilers I'm looking forward to Cena vs Rollins in particular.

Seems like a great episode for Smackdown!

So is Kane semi retired from the ring now or when is Corporate Kane wrestling in a match??

Both Smackdowns are gonna be better than the Christmas Raw no question.

The biggest advice I can give for making Roman Reigns "the One" is they SHOULD NOT make him a white meat babyface. Let him maintain his cockiness and his edgy look. Don't make him have a clean cut look or have him being a Boy Scout that smiles all the time.

Agreed; hell Cena and Sheamus are two great example of how they were practically neutered when they were forced to become "Boy Scouts" when turning face.

The WWE often forgets that what probably made their heel superstars so popular to begin with, was their heelish/edgy personas that they emitted before becoming faces.

Heck, I know a lot that considered Dave Batista to be very bland for a good while after a year of being a face and that it was only when he was allowed to become a heel that people started enjoying him again.

For some, this also ruined Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, and even CM Punk post Summer of Punk saga.

Hell this kind of character change even ruined Mickey Mouse for years as a non wrestling example.

They need to remember that if there are reasons audiences like a character, regardless of alignment, make sure those aspects remain in their persona.

They better not make Reigns suck up to the crowd like Cena and tell old Samoan stories like Sheamus with the old country stuff

Richie had been out of action for quite sometime due to a potentially career threatening back injury.

Like father, like son.

Meh, no different than any other champion. No different than any other industry for that matter: who would go see Captain America starring Paul Giamatti?
Me. So totally me.

Twice.

As WrestleMania XXX gets closer, negotiations continue between WWE and Bill Goldberg for a return at WrestleMania XXX. Word now is that both sides are very close to agreeing on money but Goldberg has an issue with his potential opponent. Ryback is no longer considered a lock for Goldberg’s return opponent.

Ryback is still in WWE’s doghouse but sources close to Goldberg indicate he’s wondering why he would even return just to put over a guy who has been “losing left and right.” It’s possible that WWE begins a major re-start with Ryback’s character and push but with how things are now, Goldberg is interested in facing someone different.

This idea has not been presented to Goldberg at last word but one idea going around WWE would see The Shield split before WrestleMania, Roman Reigns beginning his major singles push and going on to face Goldberg at WrestleMania XXX.

It’s no secret that Goldberg has issues with how he is booked and while he doesn’t mind putting someone over, he’s been reluctant to accept a role that would call for him to be the heel.

Spoilers for 12/25 WWE Main Event, courtesy of prowrestling.net:

12/19 WWE Main Event taping spoilers: Christmas night edition (spoilers)

Dark Match

1. Los Matadores defeated Los Locales (Tyson Kidd and Ricardo Rodriguez).
The crowd was into it somewhat. Then they got into a loud clap and were surprisingly really behind Los Matadores when they hit their finisher and won.

WWE Main Event

1. Goldust (w/Cody Rhodes) defeated Jack Swagger (w/Zeb Colter, Antonio Cesaro).
A great match. Goldust used his finisher to get the win.

2. The Bella Twins and Natalya defeated A.J. Lee, Tamina, and Aksana.
Another surprisingly good match. Nikki didn't botch as many moves as usual. She got the win with a roll up on Tamina.

3. Fandango (w/Summer Rae) defeated Kofi Kingston.
A good competitive match that saw the crowd chant "you can't wrestle" at fandango for a reason I don't understand. The man's gimmick is overdone, but he can wrestle. It was definitely a pro Kofi crowd. The match saw Summer are distract the ref, and then Fandango finished it with a leg drop from the top rope soon after for the win. This concluded Main Event.
I hope I'm not working that Friday.

I swould be interesting if Kane did quietly retire as an in ring competitor by making him a power figure instead.

Is it necessary to do Wyatts vs Shield before the Shield breakup? What do you guys think?

After they teased us with it, absolutely. If they didn't hint at it themselves, I would be fine if it never happened. But they made is a posibility, so now they better follow through.

Give it to us at Mania and use it as the catalyst for the Shield's dissolution.

I could see Kane being a "surprise" entrant into the Royal Rumble, very late in the match, to come in and try to take out Punk and Bryan.

The cocky heel Batista was one of the best heels in years. His character was so fun to watch.

Piper and Austin were textbook perfect examples from two radically different eras of how to turn a heel into a face while preserving aspects of their character.

I'm not buying it, as it is way too soon and I'd like to think the E realise this too. But some of the dirtsheets are now saying that Reigns may not only dominate in the Rumble, but he may also win the damn thing too. :wow:

Waaaaaaah????? Roman needs at least another year before he's ready for that. WWE needs to be careful with him.

I can't see him winning it. They would be foolish to not have Bryan or Punk win the Rumble. Also, there is still the Reigns vs Ambrose story to tell, which is what's going to put Reigns over as a face.

there's something that I've always wondered about.........

obviously, the outcome of a wrestling match is planned/scripted.

but, how much of the actual match is planned or choreographed?

is every move, sequence, spot planned?

or, are the major "pillars" of the match planned, with the nitty gritty details left up to the wrestlers to improvise?

Like, they plan out how the match starts. then, in the middle, a certain event will happen which will turn the tide. and finally, it will end in a certain way. but, the actual moves and sequences in between are left up to the wrestlers to make up on the go?

Wrestlers usually call spots during matches.

The way I figure it, with American-style wrestling, the first minute is probably choreographed, as is the ending sequence. Beyond that, the wrestlers and the referee are likely given the "skeleton" of how the match should go, and largely improvise all the stuff around it in the middle based on them calling spots and their own professional experience on how a match is typically worked.

I am basing that on nothing other than the fact that it is extremely difficult to memorize 15-20 minutes of precise, uninterrupted choreography, so I imagine that's not how these guys do it.

ok, what does "call spots" mean?

Basically, either your opponent or the referee will say under their breath in your ear something like "irish whip reverse into clothesline" and that's what you do. By the time you reach WWE level, a sequence like that you should be able to pull off with just a 5 word callout.

ok, what does "call spots" mean?

They call move sequences. They know the finish, and might have some rough ideas, but matches aren't usually mapped out entirely.

ok, thanks!!

so there is improvisation and planning the match on the fly, so to speak.

I've just always wondered about this.
