The National League-champion Philadelphia Phillies may have a fella playing with a torn muscle in left field. Raul Ibanez(notes) replaced Pat Burrell(notes) in left field in Philadelphia and has quickly won the hearts of Phillies fans this season. Now it's looking like he may have to have off-season surgery, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The partially torn muscle is apparently near his abdomen. He supposedly put off surgery in late June and certainly isn't going to have it now until the World Series ends. He claims that he doesn't even think about it when he plays and that he isn't generally bothered by it.
Supposedly Ibanez was given the choice in June to have surgery or to go on the DL and rest before playing with the injury. Before deciding to hold off, Ibanez supposedly went up to Toronto to see a neuromuscular specialist and then visited a surgeon in Philly to get the second- and third-opinion lowdown.
