2010 NFL Draft Discussion

Detroit steps up to get Jahvid Best, a great all around back. Best, Pettigrew, Johnson, Stafford? That's going to be deadly in a few years, and Suh is going to be dominant. Millen picked up a monster in Johnson, but other than that, this new regime in Detroit is making spectacular picks.

My family thought I was hurt...I was screaming so loud I was so excited when my boys traded up for best! I am so happy!!..we are a couple years away from being real contender... Suh and Best :)
Suh per bowl........haha jk

My favorite pick of the first day was Denver taking Tebow.

Anyone who says "they didn't need a QB" is clearly wrong because Denver lacked a franchise QB. If they believed the future starter of this team for 10 years was on the roster, they wouldn't have taken Tebow. Their evaluation of their talent is better than ours.

McDaniels is the ideal coach for Tebow and I like the pieces they have around Tebow. I am not as high on Bey-Bey over Dez White at WR, but McDaniels is taking specific personalities for his team. His picks, Moreno, Robert Ayers, Alphonso Smith, Bey-Bey, Tebow - all boy scouts.

Meanwhile Detroit is putting together one of the sickest offenses in the league after adding three weapons to their offense this off season.

Norman and I agree on this

I think Denver is planning long term...Orton will start and there will be an open competition for the #2

The part I disagree with is the fact they traded a 2nd, 3rd, AND 4th round pick to move up a few slots just to go get Tebow. He's not worth that much, and without a veteran QB OR coach to learn under in Denver, I don't think he's going to fully develop into a legit franchise QB. McDaniels is NOT Belicheck, and I don't care if he groomed Brady and Cassel, both those guys were used to pro systems. Tebow is a MUCH bigger project, and I don't think McDaniels has the tools to develop him on top of the fact he traded back so much only to jump forward when Tebow was going to fall into their lap anyway.

I cant believe we passed on Dez Bryant for McCourty, I cant believe we passed on Dez Bryant for McCourty...just more evidence that Bill has lost it.

Tebow will do well in denver, but pick of the draft is Dez to Dallas. He puts them over the top. They will be scary next season. His #88 jersey will sell like hotcakes.

Lions also had an excelent draft. Suh and Jahvid will be big time stars immeadietly.

I cannot believe the Patriots passed on Dez Bryant.

Someone put Excel on suicide watch this season.

I still can't agree with Tebow going to Denver.

As for the Pats, they're probably banking on getting some offense later in the draft and drafting defense early, like they always do. McCourty and Butler along with Mayweather give them a young secondary. A LB to compliment Mayo and some D-line pass rushers should give them a fresh defense to mature.

SUUUHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My thoughts on the 1st round:

LOVE the Seahawks draft. Getting Okung at #6 should warrant some kind of CSI inquiry. They won't even miss Walter Jones. Then having Earl Thomas fall to them with their next pick was incredibly fortuitous. I have no clue as to why the Eagles didnt jump all over him when they dealt up and instead took Graham? i love my Wolverines dont get me wrong, but the eagles passed on the second coming of B-Dawk and will regret it.

Clausen still available going into Round 2. Both Mel Kiper's and the Rams' heads asplode. Todd McShay does a fist pump.

I thought my Lions did well. Suh is a home run and I've wanted him since I watched the Big 12 Championship game in December. I was excited to see them deal back up into the 1st round but wish they could've done it a few picks sooner and gotten Kyle Wilson. Don't get me wrong, I like Best a lot, but I thought OT and DB were far greater needs. Also, trading with the Vikings just FEELS wrong....

"Jerrah" takes another diva at WR. You'd think he'd have learned from Glenn or Galloway or T.O. or Roy....... Good luck with that one.

Biggest surprise to me to see undrafted in Round 1 was Sergio Kindle. The guy is a freaking animal and thought he was sure to go once the Raiders took McClain off the board at 8 and thinned the position.

Biggest surprise to me to see actually get drafted in Round 1 was not Tebow. It was the guy the Jags took at 10, Tyson Aluala. Nice player and all, but he's a high 2nd rounder at best.

Tim Tebow. Can't say I saw Denver taking him by any means. Jacksonville, Oakland, or Buffalo maybe but not the Broncos. As Norm pointed out, this may be an ideal situation for him. He's got no pressure to start, he can learn to be a pro and is with a coach who's a known "QB guy." Still though I think he's still out there for Denver in Round 2, especially given the fact mcCoy and Clausen are still sitting there.

What's up haterz I told you Tebow would go in the First round!

Denver is a good pick for them he can develop no need to play this year. I'm suprised they moved up but I think they got smoke from either the Vikings (where I thought Tebow would do best) or the Patriots.

I wonder if Minnesota traded back knowing that Clauson would fall to them in the second round?

There's going to be a lot of trade activity going on at the start, because Clauson and McCoy are not getting passed Cleveland.

I like Jets' pick of Kyle Wilson. Between Wilson, Revis, and Cromartie, Jets will be able to cover just about anyone in the backfield, and allows the DL to blitz the QB. Jets defense is good already, and this addition will make them even more scary.

Dez Bryant will be wearing Mike Irvins #, 88. Jersey sales gonna through da roof

I don't follow college football really, but I'm happy that the Steelers took a center in the first round. Why, well guys, let's not forget that the O-Line is average at best and oftentimes completely SUCKS against mediocre-to-awful defenses. If you disagree with that, then watch the highlights from the KC and Cleveland games last season. As for having the QB who is the best in the league on the run... well, that's true but he might not have to be if his O-Line could keep guys off of him for more than a millisecond.

And as far as all of this "they're built for the run" crap I heard last season... I don't buy that either. Mendenhall a few great performances but also struggled against some of the worst defenses in the league. Some of it was his fault but it also didn't help that no one could open up holes for him.

As for Roethlisberger... like it or not, it looks like you're stuck with him. Either deal with it or find another team until he's gone. They still might be able to trade him if they want to but I think that's off the table now, if it ever truly was.

Am I happy about it? Honestly, I'm not sure but I'll look at it like this. It pretty much boils down to whether you believe him and his friends or her and her friends. I don't know any of these people personally, and I wasn't there that night. I can't gauge how drunk any of these people were. And though it might make some of you feel better about your team to denounce him and call him a rapist, you don't know for sure if you're right, unless you've actually witnessed something.

So yeah, my personal bias as a Steelers and a Roethlisberger fan plays into the fact that I want to believe him. But you know what? There are an equal number of people out there who hate the Steelers (or just hate Ben) who want to believe the worst about him. This cannot be denied, because I've seen it on the other side of the spectrum too. I can't tell you how many Steelers fans I've heard call Ray Lewis a murderer. I'm sure there are plenty of Ravens, Browns and Bengals fans who only refer to the man as Rapistberger now. And apparently Steeler fans too. And as much as I love Steeler fans, they CAN be completely classless. Mention the name Neil O'Donnell to many of them, and you'll hear some of the crudest sh** you've ever heard in your life.

Also, I also haven't seen any valid proof other than the statements of three girls, all friends. They might have been telling the truth, but how do we really know? And if they are lying, then a man's reputation and possibly his career have been ruined over nothing more than a night out at a bar.

But, wait... on page 522 of the report... some guy's best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who said Roethlisberger molested her at 31 Flavors last night.

I guess it's pretty serious.

Keep closing your eyes and pretending the world does not exisit Guy.

"I haven't seen any valid proof." Maybe its because the night club erased certain parts of the security footage before the DA could view them. You know, the footage the police should've been seizing immedietly, but they were too busy taking pictures with Roethlisberger.

But wait! There was no usable DNA evidence! There was male semen traces in the bathroom but there was not enough to match to Roethlisberger! That must be because the police did not block off the bathroom until the GBI arrived allowing it to be scrubbed down with pine-sol and other disinfectants! You know, the same officers who laughed off the girl's allegations by saying, "This ***** is drunk," when she asked for help at the club (which must be why she didn't report the crime until she was "coached into it by her friends at the hospital," in your words).

But surely you say, life is like CSI, and even if he used a condom, they can still get skin samples or something off the girl (your words)! Yeah, that's not how trace evidence works.

Oh, but you say the ONLY evidence is the girl and her friend's words. Not so. Several witnesses saw the body guards blocking off the bathroom after leading the girl back into there.

But like I said Guy, I'm glad you can close your eyes and just pretend it didn't happen. I'm glad you can act as if there is nothing wrong with a rapist who wasn't charged due to police misconduct (for whom he was doing favors such as taking pictures and signing autographs for them) leading our team.

And don't you dare try to write me off as a bad fan who is out to get ROethlisberger. In fact, if anyone is a crappy fan here, its you. For being willing to put a couple rings above the team's integrity. Hell, if anything you're a crappy human being for being willing to put a couple rings above a young girl's rape. Shame on you.

Kyle Orton – loves beer
Tim Tebow – loves Jesus

Kyle Orton – kneels when he is too drunk to stand
Tim Tebow – kneels when his feelings for Jesus are too awesome

Kyle Orton – hangs out with college girls because “they like the foosball”
Tim Tebow – plays catch with kids “just because”

more to come later

Good to see the Dolphins being cheap by trading their #12 pick for a #28 pick and getting a DT when they could have stayed and take a Derrick Morgan or a JPP.

I think this Yahoo! article sums up pretty accurately on the potential pitfalls of using 3 draft picks to get Tebow. Tebow will probably need another year, possibly two, to get up to speed on NFL's Pro-style offense, but McDaniels may be forced to use him early if Broncos don't start winning early. McDaniel is now forever tied to Tebow, much like Ditka was to Ricky Williams in New Orleans.

There's going to be a lot of trade activity going on at the start, because Clauson and McCoy are not getting passed Cleveland.

Considering the teams picking between them and the pick they traded back to were Indy, N.O. and the Rams, I'd say they're pretty sure of it.

I like Jets' pick of Kyle Wilson. Between Wilson, Revis, and Cromartie, Jets will be able to cover just about anyone in the backfield, and allows the DL to blitz the QB. Jets defense is good already, and this addition will make them even more scary.

typically your DL creating pressure alleviates the burden on your secondary. Not the other way around. I dont care how good the playersi nthe secondary are, if the Dl cant get to the QB in 10-15 seconds, the offense will find an open man.

LOL thye're just going to dig up all of the unsold Antonio Bryant jerseys from 2002.

Also, the best part about the Tebow pick last night was looking at Mel Kiper's look of disgust, juxtaposed against Jon Gruden's orgy of optimism. It' s the look of someone far more intelligent than the next guy, but the next guy (Gruden) is the one who's always succeeding for no reason other than he can't foresee a negative outcome.

Lesson: You should own a small business and borrow lots of money

the difference is Ricky was a selfish pot smoking jagoff who let his love of weed derail his NFL career

the worst problem you might have with Tebow is that he's late for practice because he was at church

Tebow can be the best boy scout in the world, but if he doesn't become a franchise QB in NFL (which is what he will have to become given his first-round draft status and 3 picks used on him), it won't mean squat.

I expect Buffalo to draft a QB today because if they don't, it's going to be a long season. They need a franchise QB, which they do not have.

Maybe they should have actually traded for the Rapist.

It still really doesn't justify Tebow. They're spending first round picks and money on a quarterback, when they don't really need one (they have a good quarterback and a servicable back up already) with the intent for him to be a back up. Orton is young. He's only 27 and so far he's only showing signs of improvment. So a first round draft pick for a quarterback with potential to be a back up for 5 to 7 years. I just don't see how its justified.

When you draft Tim Tebow, you know you are getting a player who is dedicated to doing anything he can for your team to win. If Sam Bradford fails, which I think he will, will he still have value as a football player? No.

If Tim Tebow fails, and I don't think he will, will he still have value as a football player? Yes.

Denver did good.

Norman and I agree on this

Exactly.

People also need to realize that Orton has a one year contract. He will need a good year to keep his job. Brady Quinn and Tebow could be angling for the starting job come 2011.

I hear that complain, and it isn't really a valid one. Your opinion is overlooking a few different factors.

For one: the third and fourth round picks (the true pieces of the trade as the 2nd was upgraded for the first rounder) are meant for trades like this. Remember, Denver made multiple trades on draft day.

The started Thursday with a first, two seconds, a third fourth, fifth and sixth.

They ended Thursday with two first round picks, a second, two thirds, a fifth and a sixth.

By playing around with draft placement, and still getting a guy they had valued at the 11th spot (which they did in Bey-Bey), they essentially got Tebow for nothing.

Furthermore, the 3rd round pick is clearly what Buffalo (who was trying to trade up for Tebow) was trying to offer to move up. Buffalo's pick comes before Denver - so they HAD to throw in another offer.

I ask you, if your team - through it's scouting department and the football opinion of everything you are paying to make these sort of decisions - has identified Tim Tebow as your future QB...do you not make that trade over a 4th round pick? Or a third round pick? Of course not.

I cant believe we passed on Dez Bryant for McCourty, I cant believe we passed on Dez Bryant for McCourty...just more evidence that Bill has lost it.

The Patriots have lost it. They have gotten far too cute, believing their scouting is better than everyone else's. They had the chance to scare the NFL and they traded down.

Pathetic.

Good to see the Dolphins being cheap by trading their #12 pick for a #28 pick and getting a DT when they could have stayed and take a Derrick Morgan or a JPP.

You are complaining that the Dolphins were able to get a high second round pick and a third round pick in exchange for trading down and selecting a player that Bill Parcells would have had no problem selecting at 12?

You are now sitting there at 2-6 with Sergio Kindle on the board and the best 3-4 DE in the draft, plus extra picks to ensure you pick up a 3-4 NT tonight.

Even assuming you're right Norm, and Tebow is a great pick for Denver, why play the games to get him? With Claussen undrafted in the first round, this is a QB who would've been available into the late second or even third round. Drafting him then not only greatly decreases his money value, but it also frees up picks to get defensive players Denver desperately needed. To trade down repeatedly, then waste some of the picks you gained by doing so, to trade up for Tim Tebow completely lacks logic.

Local news are saying the only way they took Dez was if all 3 top cb's were gone. They appearently have AJ Green and Michael Floyd both ranked higher than Dez, and would prefer one of them next year. Had they taken Dez, they would have eyed LSU cb Patrick Peterson.

Randy alongside AJ Green would be a wr fan's dream.
