I think Stunts and Matt are overreacting a bit as Steelers fans. Yeah, I would have liked to have seen Rapistberger get banished to Oakland, but at the same time, players do bad things all the time, and I figure the Rooney's don't want to sell the barn right now. They needed a corner, but they also needed an interior lineman to help the running game with Ben suspended.
Then you don't know the Steelers. They've always been an organization that's higher on class than any other team (one
huge reason I've follow them), and they always win regardless of who they cut. We don't want a rapist leading our team- plain and simple. I have been a
huge Big Ben advocate since day one. I've even vehemently defended him during both allegations. But too much came out against him to believe a word out of his mouth. That's not someone I want running the team that I follow whole-heartedly.
With that said, Rashard Mendenhall is a freakin' monster waiting to be unleashed. He didn't even start until the fourth game of the season, and still amassed 1,100 yards behind that mess of an offensive line. On top of that, the offensive line prospects are deep enough in this draft that we could have
easily picked up a non-project o-lineman in the second round. I've been big on Kyle Wilson for a few weeks now (as I've said before, his play style reminds me of Revis's, and I'd be shocked if he doesn't turn into Revis 2.0 under that very man's tutelage), and have been begging for
months for the Steelers to trade up and draft either Eric Berry or Earl Thomas. There's absolutely
no reason not to try to get a corner or safety who could start early on and help this defense almost immediately when we've got such a mobile quarterback and an up-and-coming running back that- quite frankly- don't
need o-line help
as much as that defense needs secondary help.
I think Tomlin is banking
way too much on Troy Polamalu's and Aaron Smith's returns. It's going to be the death of this team, especially if either one of them get hurt again.
Berman is spot on. Vikings won't touch a QB until late tomorrow or third day. They have to get younger and replenish defensively, they need a backup RB, and they have young QB's they have been developing. He should fall to Clevland's lap unless the Bills leap them. Won't take much either.
And those QBs they've been developing suck. Pretty hard. I wouldn't say go for Clausen, but if McCoy is there by their second pick tomorrow, they'd better damned well grab him. If Favre opts not to come back, I actually won't be shocked to see if the Vikes opt to talk to the Steelers about Big Ben- especially if they don't draft Clausen or McCoy.
Part of me is still hoping for a Nnamdi and a second- or third-rounder for Ben Roethlisberger trade. I'm
thoroughly pissed with the Pouncey pick.
