2010 NFL Draft Discussion

Picking up Tebow after going out and getting Quinn when Orton did decently last year makes no sense to me. No sense. The Thomas pick makes SOME sense with his massive size, but Dallas may have made up for passing on Moss years ago with picking up Dez Bryant. [/Excel]

So far, the Tebow pick is the only one that has baffled me and made no sense to me.

It still really doesn't justify Tebow. They're spending first round picks and money on a quarterback, when they don't really need one (they have a good quarterback and a servicable back up already) with the intent for him to be a back up. Orton is young. He's only 27 and so far he's only showing signs of improvment. So a first round draft pick for a quarterback with potential to be a back up for 5 to 7 years. I just don't see how its justified.

Dez Bryant baby!!! Roy Williams is gone after this season.

Detroit steps up to get Jahvid Best, a great all around back. Best, Pettigrew, Johnson, Stafford? That's going to be deadly in a few years, and Suh is going to be dominant. Millen picked up a monster in Johnson, but other than that, this new regime in Detroit is making spectacular picks.

That ain't bad for Detroit at all. Best is a potential monster.

This whole first round is gonna go by, and neither Clausen or McCoy got picked. lol

One of the best bigger backs left on the board was Best, who should compliment and injured Smith well and give Stafford another option. The Lions still need a year or two to mature and fill in the pieces, but they are at least on the right track.

Yeah, I can't even begin to explain how ****ing pissed I am about not taking Kyle Wilson with that pick. We decide to keep the QB who's the best in the league on the run, and what do we do? Protect his pocket, instead of shoring up the reason we lost so many games last year... The ****ing secondary.

This is stupid, Pittsburgh. Effin' STUPID.

You know what I think? We've had 35 years of two hall of fame calibre coaches (Noll and Cowher) and one of the most brilliant owners in sports history (Dan Rooney).

Now Cowher has retired. Dan is ambassador to Ireland, and really no longer involved so that leaves us with three men at the reigns. Art II as team president, Kevin Colbert as GM, and Mike Tomlin as head coach.

Lets break it down:

Art II was a corporate lawyer who was not involved with team management until about 5 or 6 years ago and only really ran the team for about a year.

Colbert has always been a numbers guy. He doesn't run the team, he handles the finances, contracts, etc while allowing the coach to run the team.

Then you have Tomlin. A head coach who got the job too young, rode his predecessor's coat tails to a Super Bowl win and beyond that has proven to be entirely ineffective. His players and staff show him no respect and basically every decision he made last year was at best questionable.

Their draft pick makes no sense. At all. The more I think about it, the more I see three men, who really ought not be running a football team together, whose accomplishments were rode to on the coattails of greater men, now without those men, are lost little boys, sitting around, pissing themselves, because they collectively have no idea what they are doing.

I miss Bill Cowher. :(

Denver drafting Tebow is confusing.

Minnesota will probably take a QB.

I miss Cowher, Dan... I miss the old days. I feel like we're becoming the Redskins. They're going to play the stupid "Best Player Available" game when we really don't have that luxury. There is absolutely no reason we shouldn't have taken Kyle Wilson, nor any that we shouldn't trade up to get Mays or another higher-rated Defensive Back tomorrow.

If we draft anything other than a player from the secondary tomorrow, I just might quit the Steelers for a year.

1) St. Louis ****ed it up. Clausen would have been in their lap. Or at least McCoy. And there was no reason to let go of Bulger unless it was a decent trade. Suh will haunt them.

2) I liked Pouncey. Thought the Steelers made a good pick there to pull and free up the run game.

3) Shocked the Jets added yet another corner, but I guess they will rely on the blitz packages instead of the rotation off the edge. Jason Taylor is NOT the answer so unless they make a move to get high tomorrow and pick up a rusher, they did not address a major need.

4) McDaniels botched it up. Not one defensive player in the 1st round? I think that defense goes back to suckage without Mike Nolan. Unless they do something tomorrow on that unit that is notable. Chargers will put up 50 next time around.

5) 49ers and Seattle made the most of it. Identified needs, and filled them without going crazy.

6) No one will complain about the WR situation in Dallas this year, outside of guys not getting enough opportunities. Best move on the first day.

7) Pats did nothing. Maybe they are banking on rushers falling to them.

8) Chargers overpay for the RB, but they had to. Not filling RB in free agency cost them extra picks.

9) Packers get a STEAL in that tackle from Iowa

10) Jacksonville is clueless. Ban them from the NFL along with Oakland.

I liked the drafting of Bryant. His immaturity scares me a bit, but he's never had any run-ins with the law.

I think Stunts and Matt are overreacting a bit as Steelers fans. Yeah, I would have liked to have seen Rapistberger get banished to Oakland, but at the same time, players do bad things all the time, and I figure the Rooney's don't want to sell the barn right now. They needed a corner, but they also needed an interior lineman to help the running game with Ben suspended.

I've already mentioned how stupid I think the Broncos are. Trading back again and again, only to pay a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th to jump up a few spots to get Tebow?! Al Davis is laughing his ass off.

New England does what they always do, trade back, and draft defense early.

I like Houston's pick, though that defense is so young it's ridiculous how good they can be with maturity.

Jerry's hoping to find the next Michael Irvin in Dez Bryant.

The Jets are looking to make sure they don't get burned again by Indy's pass game. I like it IF Washington is healthy, if not, McCluster would've been a good pick.

The Vikings look to be aiming for Clauson by trading back. I think they would have traded up to grab a safety or corner if they wanted one. They were one horrendous game from a Super Bowl, may as well groom Favre's replacement.

Really, no one else went too far out of the safe picks. No huge WTF pics except for Tebow. I agree that the Rams should have gone Suh, Clauson. Time will tell, but as of right now, the Rams got a good QB. They could have done better, but also done a lot worse than Bradford as the #1 overall pick (Though the odds of his success are way against him).

Berman is spot on. Vikings won't touch a QB until late tomorrow or third day. They have to get younger and replenish defensively, they need a backup RB, and they have young QB's they have been developing. He should fall to Clevland's lap unless the Bills leap them. Won't take much either.

Then you don't know the Steelers. They've always been an organization that's higher on class than any other team (one huge reason I've follow them), and they always win regardless of who they cut. We don't want a rapist leading our team- plain and simple. I have been a huge Big Ben advocate since day one. I've even vehemently defended him during both allegations. But too much came out against him to believe a word out of his mouth. That's not someone I want running the team that I follow whole-heartedly.

With that said, Rashard Mendenhall is a freakin' monster waiting to be unleashed. He didn't even start until the fourth game of the season, and still amassed 1,100 yards behind that mess of an offensive line. On top of that, the offensive line prospects are deep enough in this draft that we could have easily picked up a non-project o-lineman in the second round. I've been big on Kyle Wilson for a few weeks now (as I've said before, his play style reminds me of Revis's, and I'd be shocked if he doesn't turn into Revis 2.0 under that very man's tutelage), and have been begging for months for the Steelers to trade up and draft either Eric Berry or Earl Thomas. There's absolutely no reason not to try to get a corner or safety who could start early on and help this defense almost immediately when we've got such a mobile quarterback and an up-and-coming running back that- quite frankly- don't need o-line help as much as that defense needs secondary help.

I think Tomlin is banking way too much on Troy Polamalu's and Aaron Smith's returns. It's going to be the death of this team, especially if either one of them get hurt again.

And those QBs they've been developing suck. Pretty hard. I wouldn't say go for Clausen, but if McCoy is there by their second pick tomorrow, they'd better damned well grab him. If Favre opts not to come back, I actually won't be shocked to see if the Vikes opt to talk to the Steelers about Big Ben- especially if they don't draft Clausen or McCoy.

Part of me is still hoping for a Nnamdi and a second- or third-rounder for Ben Roethlisberger trade. I'm thoroughly pissed with the Pouncey pick.

carolina please pick a qb if claussen or mccoy are there

k.thx.bai

Clausen ain't gonna be much better than Jackson or Rosenfels next year. So that's another 2-3 years of development. By then the rest of the team will need to be rebuilt. Plus they still have the Farve card. Now is not the time to bring in another QB that high.

Clausen could probably step in during the first game and perform better than Jackson easily. Jackson has been nothing for the Vikes. Rosenfels is largely unproven with them, but his career hasn't exactly been stellar otherwise.

If I was the Vikes, my first pick would be a corner or safety. If McCoy fell to me with my second, I'd grab him- regardless of Favre's return. Why not have the NCAA's quarterback with the most wins ever learn from one of the NFL's greatest quarterbacks ever?

I hate posting so late at night, since I spew babble often. I think the Rooney's couldn't get a deal done by draft time, but I don't think this pick indicates a sure thing that Ben will be back next year. I don't mind the pick, since I think the Steelers SHOULD load up on power interior lineman to give their line depth so they can pound the rock while Ben is gone. I think round 2 will have to be a CB, and round 3 or 4 can find a quick, Willie Parker like back as Norm said eariler. I think they could try and trade up for McCluster if they really like him.

Jets made a fantastic pick...Kyle Wilson is absolutely beast and his focus and awareness make him top notch. He was at the Jets top of the board apparently because Ryan wanted him really bad

Tannenbaum called it a "dream scenario"

NFL network said it was pretty much down to a coin flip with the browns on Haden and WIlson

According to ESPN's Michael Smith's twitter:

"Lotta irony in this pick. Eric Mangini, who drafted Darrelle Revis, told me he thought Wilson was the closest thing to Revis in the#NFLDraft"

Haha. Someone start making those street signs wth the Jets colors/logos and "NO PASSING" NOW! Seriously, Rex Ryan and Tannenbaum are making sure they don't get torched against Indy again.

JaTubby, eat this double post! Get it!

I don't follow college football really, but I'm happy that the Steelers took a center in the first round. Why, well guys, let's not forget that the O-Line is average at best and oftentimes completely SUCKS against mediocre-to-awful defenses. If you disagree with that, then watch the highlights from the KC and Cleveland games last season. As for having the QB who is the best in the league on the run... well, that's true but he might not have to be if his O-Line could keep guys off of him for more than a millisecond.

And as far as all of this "they're built for the run" crap I heard last season... I don't buy that either. Mendenhall a few great performances but also struggled against some of the worst defenses in the league. Some of it was his fault but it also didn't help that no one could open up holes for him.

As for Roethlisberger... like it or not, it looks like you're stuck with him. Either deal with it or find another team until he's gone. They still might be able to trade him if they want to but I think that's off the table now, if it ever truly was.

Am I happy about it? Honestly, I'm not sure but I'll look at it like this. It pretty much boils down to whether you believe him and his friends or her and her friends. I don't know any of these people personally, and I wasn't there that night. I can't gauge how drunk any of these people were. And though it might make some of you feel better about your team to denounce him and call him a rapist, you don't know for sure if you're right, unless you've actually witnessed something.

So yeah, my personal bias as a Steelers and a Roethlisberger fan plays into the fact that I want to believe him. But you know what? There are an equal number of people out there who hate the Steelers (or just hate Ben) who want to believe the worst about him. This cannot be denied, because I've seen it on the other side of the spectrum too. I can't tell you how many Steelers fans I've heard call Ray Lewis a murderer. I'm sure there are plenty of Ravens, Browns and Bengals fans who only refer to the man as Rapistberger now. And apparently Steeler fans too. And as much as I love Steeler fans, they CAN be completely classless. Mention the name Neil O'Donnell to many of them, and you'll hear some of the crudest sh** you've ever heard in your life.

Also, I also haven't seen any valid proof other than the statements of three girls, all friends. They might have been telling the truth, but how do we really know? And if they are lying, then a man's reputation and possibly his career have been ruined over nothing more than a night out at a bar.

But, wait... on page 522 of the report... some guy's best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who said Roethlisberger molested her at 31 Flavors last night.

I guess it's pretty serious.
