So who does everyone think are the winners and losers from this draft? (I think Norm Kiper Jr. said he'd have a detailed team by team grade analysis eventually).
Winners
Seattle: Carrel is a tremendous judge of talent, and sat back and let the talent fall to him with three outstanding first picks in Okung, Thomas, and Tate.
Cincinnatti: Carson Palmer will have an entire buffet of weapons to choose from this year with Gresham, Shipley, and the Kansas WR complimenting Bryant and Ochocinco. This will take the load off of Benson and make him more effective as well. Carlos Dunlap in that secondary was a great value pick.
Detroit: I have made a personal note to never play poker with Mark Mayhew. He gets the best player in this draft with Suh, then goes out and grabs a pick from a divisional rival to grab a potential home-run gamebreaker in Best. He will add explosiveness to special teams and work his way into splitting time with Kevin Smith.
Baltimore: Sergio Kindle AND Mt. Cody? Good luck trying to get past 700 pounds between Cody and Ngata, and Kindle can be a harder hitting Terrell Suggs. Don't forget that Bolden is basicall a part of this draft class for peanuts, giving Flacco a legit weapon.
Oakland: They're a winner just for not being a loser in this draft or taking the fastest 40 time. Great, solid picks all around to sure up the trenches and bring in Jason Campbell.
As Norm said, there weren't many losers in this draft, but the bottom of this draft class, to me, includes:
Jacksonville: Grabbing four D-linemen with your first four picks when you have glaring needs on both sides of the ball makes little sense. They need a playmaker outside of Mojo to inspire the city and they didn't do it (Though they're likely moving to LA soon anyway).
Denver: This all rides on one player. Ironically, it seems McD is banking on Tebow being his savior. Tebow has every intangible and THEN some, but there is a big, glaring question about whether his QB skills can be groomed into the next Elway for the Broncos. IF McD grooms Tebow into the next Brady or Cassel, then he makes one of the greatest picks ever, but if not, then Denver will have more than likely wasted three to five years in passing guys like Jake Locker next year.
Chicago: On the losing end because of the Cutler trade that gutted them. They made a few good picks, but they were butchered from the beginning and didn't get to pick until the third round! I don't like Chicago spending one of those picks on a QB, even if it's in the sixth round. They needed to draft for their needs and hope they pan out, not draft for depth with LeFevour.
Buffalo: Maybe they're hoping for Jake Locker or Andrew Luck next year, but other than CJ Spiller, I didn't like their draft. They wait til the fifth round to grab a tackle, which they desperately need to keep Edwards' head attached to his body. Personally, I would have taken Gerhart over Spiller to get some smashmouth football going, but Spiller will be a home run hitter nonetheless. There was not much value I could find in their other picks.
