2011 NFL Thread: The Lazarus Season - Part 7

In other news, Suh has called the commissioner to apologize. What I find amazing is, Thursday through Sunday, all of the analysts were talking about Suh's intent to injure and calling for a stiff 3-5 game suspension. This morning....you have people like Dan Patrick and Peter King saying that he's already served time due to his ejection (:whatever:) so one game would be enough. The kid is out there trying to cause harm to people. A fake apology (where he doesn't even apologize to the player he stomped on but instead his team and his fans) does not negate that.

ESPN is reporting that Jack Del Rio has been fired.

That's a pity in my eyes. Del Rio is a good coach who got caught up with the smallest market in the NFL and ownership who wouldn't spend because of it. I hope he gets another shot one day.

It's ok Matthew...it's ok to weep :csad:

No weeping! In fact, I say it is time to let Ken Whisenhunt hire Keith Butler, replace him with Del Rio (and name his Steelers assistant head coach) and prepare him to succeed Dick LeBeau! Ah...a perfect world.

Shefter is reporting that Jaguars employees are being notified that the team is being sold.

Two game suspension for Suh plus some fines (and an expected fine from the Lions as well, who will also be fined for exceeding the maximum amount of fines).

Not enough, IMO. The guy has intent to harm. That is the big thing for me. He still hasn't acknowledged that his actions were wrong (aside from how they affected the team) or apologized to Dietrich-Smith. I personally think that the rest of the season was in order but I digress, that is unrealistic so I'd say 3 to 4 games would have been more appropriate.

Montana Jaguars.

Edit: They are staying.

I think it's time Idaho got itself a pro football team.

He was never going to get more than 2. The funny and sad thing is, if he broke his arm, he would probably get the rest of the season and maybe next.

Yep. And I don't see this as a wake up call for Suh. Two games? 160,000 (on a contract worth 40 million)? This is nothing to him. He has still yet to apologize to Dietrich-Smith or really even acknowledge that the stomp was wrong. The only thing he has apologized for is putting himself in a position to be removed from the game (which is a far cry from saying, "My action was wrong, I apologize to Mr.Dietrich-Smith). He will come back in two weeks and play the same way he always has played. Until he seriously hurts someone and the league takes real action, he will continue to act like a thug.

The funny thing is with NFL suspensions:

Take the wrong cold medication: 4 games.

Stomp on someone's arm: 2 games.

And I like Suh, I love how he plays but he needs to dial it back. Once the whistle blows, play over.

Del Rio getting fired is lame, LOL!

I love the intensity as well. But there is a line between being a tough player (someone like Terrell Suggs) and being a dirty one and that line is intent to harm. I doubt that Suh is a violent person off the field, but when he is out there, he is not trying to just stop the ball carrier. He gets caught up in the heat of the moment and tries to hurt other players. That is what makes it so problematic. I really think that the Hammer should've included anger management in the suspension.

So they claim. May just be a way to keep complications limited as the sale is processed.

Yeah, I read that there's no signed agreement that the new owner must keep the team in Jacksonville, so it must be verbal agreement or some sort. If the new owner feels that he can't make a profit staying at Jacksonville, would he really keep the team there in the future?
