2011 NFL Thread: The Lazarus Season - Part 7

I'm not trying to defend the Harrison hit, but this is the first hit he's had all season that will result in a fine. Granted, he missed some games due to the eye injury but he still was playing lights out in most of the games he's been in without any questionable or dirty play. So I think it's a little early this season to say that he hasn't adjusted his game or doesn't care overall. If he does it again, then I would agree, but he's stayed clean throughout the season up until this point.

Worked well? The Bears have made one Super Bowl in the Free Agency Era.

Morality and Business Practice are not separate matters. Good morals is good business practice.

The Bears are actually making a good business decision with Forte's situation ... How that plays in the locker room is a separate matter.

They made him an offer in the offseason. Reports are that it was in the range of Gore's contract. Decent money but definitely not the crazy deals C.Johnson and D.Williams signed.

They can also control his rights for the next two years by slapping the franchise tag on him. He's not going anywhere.

It might not be popular with him or his teammates, but it is what it is.

Having said that ... I really hope the Bears do the RIGHT thing and get him signed.

When your business is football, then how a decisions plays in the locker room is not separate from the quality of the decision. If you screw over your best player to save six million dollars this year (just to pull a number out of thin air), and yet in doing so hurt the moral of your entire team, then the value of your 100+ million dollar investment (the entire roster) is likely diminished by more than six million dollars.

Let's not even deal with vague theoreticals. Can we agree that Forte has less incentive to rehab healthy this year because of his contract situation? I think so. Now consider that the Bears are contending for a playoff and have no QB. Couldn't Forte playing be the difference between making the playoffs and watching it on TV? If the Bears make the playoffs, won't their revenue likely be greater than difference in the contract negotiations? So ignore the way it plays in the locker room, the Bears front office is shooting itself in the foot.

But of course this should be expected from Jerry Angelo. You have to look no further than the draft-Ravens fiasco to see the quality of man you are dealing with.

As Coach Bellichick has taught us; good morals win championships.

:o

Belicheck used to be much better than he is today. It is not a coincidence that the team has fallen since trading Richard Seymour like he did.

Norman - For the most part I do agree with you. It is definitely in everyone's best interest to get a deal done with Forte. The bottom line is they don't have to give into his demands. He's not going anywhere. They can control him for two more years ... at which point he'll be dangerously close to that age when RBs tend to disappear.

Again, I want him signed, the Bears should sign him and he deserves it. I can just understand where the Bears are coming from on this one.

I completely understand where they are coming from, which is one reason I am so adament to criticize them. Their business philosophy is bad. I can't respect a front office is does that.

Saw Rex Ryan at the Mall at Short Hills in NJ at a Chanel store.

I was like 99% sure it was him. But, he looked a lot thinner in person. I pussed out and he walked out and I asked the people there and they said it was him.

I should had risked the embarrassment if it wasn't him, to get a picture.

Oh, you mean back when he was spying on other teams?

Dear Eagles: hope you have medical insurance. Signed, Miami Dolphins.

ETMadzone Picks.

Carolina over Atlanta
Miami over Philly

I don't know who else is playing, so that's all.

I can see the Dolphins beating the Eagles but I don't know if the Panthers will beat the Falcons...it's possible but I see the Falcons pulling this one off.

So what do you guys think are the pro prospects for the four Heisman Trophy Finalists not named Andrew Luck?

Mathieu is a guarantee star I think in the NFL.

Trent Richardson will be a bust

Montee Ball will acutally be a half decent pro

RGIII is going to have an excellent career

Luck will also be a all pro player

List of Fines for the week: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...dolphins-incognito?module=HP11_headline_stack

Ten fines for the week I think, the more notable ones:

$30,000 for Seymour

$15,000 for Woodson

$25,000 for Pettigrew

Somehow I'm not surprised 3 of these are on Lions players but quite frankly, I prefer salty bastards to League doormats.
Maybe I missed something, but shouldn't James Harrison be on that list as well? Or is he not getting a fine for that hit on McCoy?

You honestly believe Goodell would ever pass up a chance to fine Harrison?

Don't worry, his $1 million fine is coming; apparently they're also mulling a suspension.

Sanchez with the fake run TD.

...and Grossman gets strip-sacked in the endzone for a TD in the first 3 minutes of the game.

How many turnovers is that for him now? 700?

You know what? I don't buy into the whole, "Goodell is out to get Harrison," argument. Harrison plays like a thug. He has punched players who are on the ground and helpless. He has acknowledged that he is trying to injure other players. He is a dirty player. But the fines would have never been as frequent or as heavy if he didn't respond to them by basically telling the commissioner of the National Football League, "**** you, I'm going to keep doing whatever the hell I want." Harrison put the target on himself. If he responded in the same manner that Troy did to his fines, Harrison would have never gotten into hot water. But his response was essentially, "I'm gonna keep on playing dirty and if you don't like it keep on fining me."

Gotta get some pressure on Big O, guy's a hell of a lot better than Painter, which isn't saying much.

On another note, Cam just eviscerated the Falcon D, made it look way too easy.

When Carolina builds that defense up they're going to be dangerous.

Isn't there somewhere online where you can watch a game live? I'd like to see the Cincy game but it's blacked out here.

I'm watching the game and there are a **** load of empty seats in Cinci. Considering they are still in the hunt, why aren't people going?
