Yeah, I know it's early for BO predictions, but 2012 looks like a real BO monster year for me.

What do you think?

we're jumping the gun here a bit.

...it will no doubt make history.
it's 4th quarter alone looks more promising that last summer.

My predictions for Top 5 highest grossing films of 2012 (worldwide):

1. The Hobbit Part 1
2. The Avengers
3. The Dark Knight Rises
4. The Amazing Spider-Man
5. Ice Age 4

The Avengers might make more than The Hobbit domestically. I don't think TDKR will make as much as TDK because the major driving force behind TDK was The Joker, but it'll still do good. As for Ice Age, the last two are in the Top 10 highest grossing animated films of all time, so I expect this one will make huge bank as well.

we need to see the hype up to spiderman to see what kidn of numbers it will make.

i can see Avengers underperform. like for real.

It's Spider-Man. On Fourth of July weekend. People will see it.

As for Avengers, it's too big to fail. It's been built up for three years now. Iron Man alone will get people to see it, if nothing else.

The Dark Knight Rises owns the year and The Amazing Spider-Man under-performs.

The Hobbit or The Dark Knight Rises comes out on top.

Avengers will have that how does it "end up" type factor going for it.
TDK will no doubt open big but loose money without that joker factor.
Spiderman is fresh and new whilst still retaining the clout of the name, Plus until superman is confirmed it's the only 3D comic film next year(if only it had a name director(like the others))

Hobbit and Superman and Trek will hurt each other.
Superman's wicked cast and no doubt best trailer of the year will help it.

Are there any original properties coming out next summer to watch for?

Battleship, but who knows where that's gonna go. Prometheus seems a bit more promising. That Hunger Games movie is coming out in March, which will probably kick off another franchise.

i think he asked about original properties. :yay:

The Hobbit will underperform. It does good but not LOTR good.

The Hobbit is a better-known property than Lord of the Rings. You're more likely to find someone who has read The Hobbit at some point in their lives than someone who has read the trilogy.

Then there's the obvious factor that it's a prequel to one of the biggest trilogies of all time.

It will do just as well as LoTR, if not better. I'd bet my left foot on that.

I've no idea where they'll end up in the box office ranking. But as for me, the only films I'm currently looking forward to next year are:

1)The Avengers
2)The Hobbit
3)Amazing Spider-Man
4)John Carter

and that's about it.

thats a good one.:cwink:

high five
It's more of a story that takes place in the Alien universe than a sequel/prequel. You can stop the patronizing smartassery.

The Hobbit
The Dark Knight Rises
Lincoln
The Avengers
The Amazing Spider-Man
The Man of Steel

Men in Black is good 350M. Will Smith returns to screen after a four year break is gonna be big. Depending on where the they release Superman I could see it doing anywhere from 400M to 800M. They need to keep it away Twilight and The Hobbit. I say release it that last weekend in November where its two weeks removed from Twilight and two weeks from The Hobbit. I'd also also push the hobbit back to the 21.

its in the same universum like Alien and it will tell the story before Alien with the alien from the firs tAlien movie?

thank you very much.

call me when someone will come up with a new universum. then we can call it an original franchise.

Holy...I forgot about Twilight

Updated ranking:

1. The Dark Knight Rises - 900 mil - 1.1 bil
2. The Hobbit - 900 mil - 1.1 bil
3. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 2 - 850 mil - 1 bil
4. The Avengers - 650 mil - 1 bil
5. The Amazing Spider-Man - 550 mil - 950 mil
6. Man of Steel - 400 mil - 850 mil
7. Star Trek 2 - 400 mil - 850 mil
8. Men in Black - 350 mil - 650 mil
