Alright here it is, the designated thread for all things regarding Casino Royale's BO, US and abroad.

Usually with BO, I don't want to make too many bold predictions. Because I mean, look at Superman Returns which is just now about to cross $200 million. So basically, you really never know sometimes. A lot of people over-estimated Batman Begin's potential. And some people (I don't know why) just get ticked off about Pirates 2.

I think the safe guesstimate for this movie is around $125 million plus or more. Maybe $150 million. I don't want to go ahead and say $200 million domestic since no Bond film has ever done it, and the last one released in 2002 didn't do it either.

I'm not sure what Sony's expecations are here, I imagine they are hoping for in the ballpark of at least $150 million or more.

Internationally I expect this movie to be a hot seller as most Bond films are. Unless all of England just trashes on it, but I don't see that as the case.

Considering the average Bond film makes no less than $300-350 million world-wide, I'd say it possible it'll be in the mid-$300million range.

But the question had strictly to do with *USA* box office.

New film with a new Bond, and an origin story of ilks.

I'm thinking 135 million domestically at the most.

I honestly think Casino Royale will make about $110 million. I'd love for it to make twice that and be proven wrong, but that's what I predict.

60 million US

150 rest of the world

210 million in total

Craig removed in 2007

This film has a lot going for it. Its not the formulaic crap that Brosnan's last movies were, this film has set a new standard of class and that is 1 of the things that is going to help sell this movie. I'll be happy if this movie makes BB type figures but I know it'll make more.

Opening Day: $16m

Opening Weekend: $44m

Domestic: $164m

Overseas: $271m

Worldwide: $425m

So I was reading the newest Esquire magazine (the one with Scarlett Johannson on the cover, go get it now!) and I came across this:
"I had the torturous pleasure of watching Layer Cake on my relatively small television set. Speaking as a woman who hasn't seen Bond on the big screen since Moonraker (I was thirteen), I will be paying ten dollars to see this film because of Mr. Craig, not despite him."

That was written by Melissa Edney, in response to the Esquire magazine with Craig on the cover. I think people don't find him ridiculous at all. Rather, totally believeable. The way I see it is this: Bond is a new character every time he's played by a new actor. Brosnan's Bond isn't Moore's bond. Dalton isn't Connery. Craig is something new, and after Bond got done surfing on a glacier, this is a welcome change.

I think the BROSNAN FACTOR is one of the main reasons why I believe CR will flop or underperform.

I think the average Joe on the street will compare Craig with Brosnan and even if the times we live in suit a more gritty flawed James Bond I think Craig will suffer by comparison. This is why the look of Bond shouldn't be dismissed. Whether die-hard Bond fans care about Bond's look - fair enough - but if women see Craig and say, "why did they replace Brosnan with this craggy bloke?" CR's box office will be affected. It's inevitable some of the audience won't go from handsome Brosnan to craggy less attractive Craig. It's just human nature and human prejudice, folks!

I'm not sure Barbara Broccoli considered the Brosnan factor when she hired Craig. And don't forget - BROSNAN WAS STILL VERY POPULAR WHEN HE LEFT THE ROLE. It's not as if Die Another Day was unpopular with the global audience. To assume people will go from Brosnan to someone like Craig shouldn't be guaranteed.

Craig may end up a much tougher more brutish Bond, more badass, perhaps more in keeping with the times in which we live - but if the average Joe and Jane see Craig and think "why have they replaced the very popular Brosnan with this Craig guy?" then it's almost certain to damage CR's box office.

Despite what the pro-Craigers say, Bond does have a brand image - and that is a tall, handsome (clasically handsome) man. Changing the brand image could be the biggest mistake in the franchise's 40 plus years history. We'll find out in less than a month. Worrying times ahead for Eon, I fear.

I don't think most women are that superficial.

Also, why can't Craig be considered classically handsome?

im not expecting anything over 100$.....

not with this lack of advertising

Well guys, super fan says this movie will fail because he isn't attracted to Craig. So let's all pretend we think it will fail because of the reasons he gives us, then maybe we don't have to see his shallow posts anymore.

What he's saying about Brosnan is right though. Brosnan's films made a lot of money for all involved, and many people out there consider him to be their favorite 007 (even above Connery). Then again though, a lot of people who went to go see Brosnan's Bond films had no idea of what a Bond film should be. They were completely satisfied with "World is Not Enough" and blown away by "Die Another Day". Brosnan's looks were there to compensate for wherever the story was lacking. With Craig, we get a less attractive man (but not ugly, come on that's overdoing it a bit), and that must mean the story is exceptionally great.
Either way, I don't care how the movie does box office-wise. I have no idea how much Moonraker grossed worldwide, domestically. Today it doesn't matter.

EON knows they won't gross as much as DAD. So if they know it, I'm cool with it...

I don't think it will either, but I'd really like it if it did.
