Well then we are on the same page. Into Darkness is awesome. :word:

It is awesome!

I still can't believe Into Darkness is going to gross less than 500mil, I just knew it was doing at least that this summer.

The only conclusion I can come to is that Star Trek's appeal is far more limited than we expected, in spite of a successful reboot. Trek is only ever going to be a middle of the road franchise.

ST still has some nerd stigma around it and it's considered uncool by many.

Given Avatar's opening weekend numbers, the WW BO must have confused....everyone. :funny:

I and my family like Trek and I do not care if others think that it is uncool. Into Darkness made a neice and nephew of mine Cumberbatch fans. If nothing else I will forever be happy that it give Cumby more exposer. He is awesome and everyone should know that.

Into Darkness is a fun likable movie to me. I didn't like it as much as the first though so I was disappointed on that front. I'm happy that it didn't tank.

I've liked Star Trek since the 80s, I'm long past giving a crap if anyone thinks that's uncool.

Into Darkness was easily the most fun I've had at the movies this year. And as someone who's been a Star Wars fan even longer than I've been a Star Trek fan, I'm even more psyched for Abrams' Episode VII.

I enjoy what I enjoy. Whether it be Star Wars, a musical or a kid's television show (I love you Adventure Time). Takes a lot of fun out of life to care what others think about what you enjoy.

I can't wait for SW7.

I was never a Star Wars person but I like Abrams and I like that Abrams is not working with his usual writers this time. I'm mildly looking forward to episode 7. If some interesting people are cast I will be even more interested.

Nicolas Cage and Gary Busey better be in this. :o

Which movie will be counted as a big failure for 2013 ?

* Jack The Giant Slayer

* The Lone Ranger

* Pacific Rim

A movie should gross around 2.2 times the budget worldwide.

Jack made around 1 times the budget. It's a bomb.

Lone Ranger was just released overseas too but it's looking at only 1 times the budget. Another bomb.

If Pacific Rim needs 320 m OS to get 2.2 times the budget. It will fall short. If it falls 100 m short it's a bomb but if it falls under 50 m short it will be a box office disappointment.

According to this THR article , LOne Ranger is the big loser financially but IMO i think the big failure is Pacific Rim.
Unline Jack the Giant Slayer or Lone Ranger which were pretty much doomed from the start , with Rim it just sounded like everything was working out well.
THe premise was simple and it worked with transformers "Big effin robots duking it out with big effin monsters".
200 million budget , no delays , they took their time , WB gave the movie it's prime July release date which in the past worked out so well for them ( Batman , Potter, Inception) and GDT first big budget blockbuster and he was given free reign.
On paper nothing could go wrong.

So i'd say that in terms of (audience) expectation and based on that the BO earnings, Rim is the bigger failure here.

Too bad because i really wanted the movie to be a hit.

Movies are not bombs based on fanboy expectations.

They're bombs based on budget and worldwide gross.

They have to ask what went wrong in that sense. Every year has that one movie that has all kinds of nerd support but doesn't fly with the normal audience.

I'd go so far as to say that Pacifim Rim could've been a hit with the general audience . This wasn't a case of fanboy expectation.
We aren't talking about Scott Pilgrim here.

Pacifim Rim was made for a broad audience.

God this is so true! A movie isn't a bomb because it failed to reach ridiculous fanboy over predictions. It's too early to call Pacific Rim a bomb, it does need to do like 450-500mil to account for that huge ass budget and marketing spend. Personally I think Pacific Rim is going to be a disappointment, not a bomb.

R.I.P.D had tons of reshoots and is rumored to cost way more than that 130mil the studio keeps tossing out and now it's tracking to do something in the late teens. I'd say unless it over performs it will be the bomb of the Summer or at least tied with The Lone Ranger. White House Down is another bomb and The Internship and After Earth was a huge miss for all involved.
