Why wouldn't he?

Because Harbaugh is a bit of an authoritarian coach who likes control. It takes a fairly hands off coach to work with Manning. You need someone who is okay with a quarterback that has the authority to send the punt squad off of the field. Harbaugh isn't that coach.

I think the latter will prove true.

Unless that team is the Redskins. If it is, get ready for (a good :cwink:) 5-11.
If given other options, I really doubt he would join a team in his brother's division.

I see him being neither a Johnny Unitas or a Joe Montana but rather a Brett Favre. Could have a good season left, but for the most part his age and injury will start to show.

Hey, Peyton has worked with a hard-nosed, authoritarian head coach whose quiet strength inspired his team to go 14-2 in the regular season and later go to the Super Bowl. Now, they didn't win, but that was only because the Saints were playing dirty, as we've now learned. Rest assured, had the vile and despicable Gregg Williams not been paying off the Saints D to sweep the leg on Peyton -- forcing him into poor decisions like a costly pick 6 -- the Colts would have easily cruised to victory under the BOLD AND DUTIFUL LEADERSHIP OF JIM CALDWELL.

:funny:

Bounty-gate has vindicated and redeemed Jim Caldwell! Caldwell for Hall of Fame!

If Caldwell goes on to coach a Matt Moore-led team... he's a LOCK for the Hall of Fame.

Ah, Peter King is on NFL Total Access via video chat. His already oversized head on a giant flat screen is nearly as big as Andrew Siciliano's entire body.

It's official, Peyton Manning is done in Indy. Not a Colts fan, but it is kind of sad, even though we knew this was coming. Saw his presser today and I felt for the guy, he was very emotional and had nothing but good things to say about the city, the team and the owner. I gained alot of respect for him today.

Of course, all those good feelings will go away once the season starts...and sooner if he signs with the Jets or Dolphins.

With Peyton Manning off the Colts, the Texans now have the best QB Crop in the AFC South with Matt Schaub and TJ Yates (who I think the Texans will keep because of Schaub's injury history). Plus the Texans know what they have in Yates based on what he did last season.

I didn't. He's being childish. He refused to restructure his contract. He apparently was very unenthusiastic (I put it nicely) about mentoring Andrew Luck. The guy already has more money than God. If he loves the city and team so much he should have been willing to stay on for less money and help build their future. Peyton was selfish throughout this whole thing. He acted like a spoiled child who has never been told no, which is basically exactly what he is. From his first year of college he was being told that he is a Messianic quarterback who will change the NFL. As soon as the Colts got rid of Mora and replaced him with Dungy, Peyton enjoyed a career where he got to do whatever the hell he wanted (sit in on personnel discussions, overrule his head coach on the field, etc). He could have stayed in Indy. He just didn't like the idea of not having total control over the team anymore so he refused to restructure.

To see Irsay being painted as the bad guy by the sports media is disgusting as Peyton Manning is the one who acted selfishly. The only way Irsay is a bad guy in any of the fiasco that was Indy's off-season is his handling of Caldwell (I know I joke about Caldwell and he never should have been head coach but I say that with total sincerity, you don't let a coach stick around and handle the day to day business while actively seeking his replacement, that is classless).

I agree with most of this. Peyton is standing on his last legs, and could still help this team in its transition...heck, may even keep them in the race for the division since only the Texans really stand in their way. But, he "must have" that second ring. As opposed to lasting out his last 2-4 years grooming the man who will run the team when he leaves, he said goodbye. I have been saying Manning is selfish for years, and this proves it. But, like your example with Caldwell, Irsay is no saint either. I personally dislike them both and say they both earned this.

While I agree with some of your assessments on Peyton Manning, you've got to remember that Colts, as an organization, was pretty much a doormat of the NFL before his arrival 14 years ago. After the team acquired Manning, he transformed the franchise into a winner, and went to two SB while winning one. I do get the fact that he's a prima donna who wants everything his way, and he marginalized Jim Caldwell to less of a head coach and more of his yes-man, but elite QBs in NFL are just so integral to the success of the organization while being so scarce that they are often given the longest leash with the biggest contract.

I can understand Irsay's decision to dump Manning and go with Luck, because it is the logical thing to do and the best decision under the circumstances. And I also do not always have a favorable opinion of Manning, due to the way he forces the team to cater to his every demands. But you cannot deny the kind of impact he had with the Colts organization for over a decade, and so his departure is a sweet sorrow among Colts fans even though it makes the most sense moving forward.

Yeah, I see your point and didn't really think about that.

It is going to be strange not seeing Manning in a Colts uniform any more

Since I'm a fan of a team that's never had a franchise QB (Sid Luckman??), the idea of getting rid of one is still tough for me to grasp (I know Manning played a big part of it).

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for either scenario to play out. Peyton's not going to go into a WCO like they run in NY, and will be running in Miami under Mike Sherman. He's also said to people close to him that he has no interest in the circus that would ensure if he goes into the same market as his brother.

You'll likely see Manning go to a team with a downfield offense and good receiving talent, somewhere his buddy Reggie Wayne can sign as a number 2 WR, and that has a solid to good defense.

If I had to bet I'd say he'll be a Cardinal.

NFL Network now says Broncos are interested in Peyton Manning. If they get Manning they can put Tebow at another position.

It's a sad day for this Colts fan. :csad:

I think Peyton Manning goes to Arizona. Although if I'm Seattle I'd go after him very hard because I don't think the Seahawks fans can handle another year of CFL caliber play at Quarterback.

Reggie Wayne and Fitzgerald? Nice.

I would guess he'd prefer to stay in the AFC, but I haven't really heard anything that suggests he has a preference.

Does Kevin Kolb have guaranteed money on his contract? I don't know if Cardinals can just cut him without suffer any monetary losses. Personally, I think Peyton should go to Niners, who are in the same division as Cards but have better Oline, running games, and defense. Cards have better WR but as a team they have more deficiencies than Niners do.

I agree, they are the best team right now to go to as a top notch QB like Manning. Because they really have it all right now except for that top notch QB, even though Alex Smith is pretty good he is no Peyton Manning.

As a Fins fan, I don't want Peyton. We need to go after a young QB who can lead this franchise for years to come. The truth is, we don't know what Peyton has left. And even if he comes close to 100% it's 2 maybe 3 more years. Then the Fins are stuck with the same situation of not having a QB they have now.
