2016/2017 NFL thread: The Final Battle

If I remember correctly, Smith ate up seven minutes in Q4 just to get KC to 15. That inability to drive down the field in time, man...

All I'm saying is if Kansas City got a stronger QB, they'd be too dangerous.

Really? I looked at the game stats and they matched what I saw on the highlights. KC gave up 389 total yards and Pitt had nearly a ten-minute edge in time of possession. Either KC's D had an uncharacteristically bad day, or they finally ran into a team that exposed how soft they really are. I'm not sure what the QB is supposed to do when he's stuck on the sidelines watching his teammates get pushed all over the field like a collection of Tophers.

The Chiefs defense wasn't all that great this season, even though people hyped them up to be. 18th in passing and 26th in rushing. I think the Chiefs would have benefited if they had let's say Drew Brees on their team. Someone who could drive down the field in a matter of minutes to score. But let's not forget that Smith did take them down the field and because of a holding call, we're talking about them losing 18-16.

I've been saying this past year and a half that the Chiefs should make a play for Drew Brees. They have a team that's built to win now. With Brees signing his extension last season I think that went out the window. I also think it's risky trying to acquire a QB in the draft because you don't want someone to come in there and become an Osweiler and give the ball away twice a game. Plus, QB controversies are the worst and they get a team nowhere.

Smith is a game manager that only benefits from having a good defense behind him. If Smith were on the Texans this season, I think that would have benefited them in the long run since Osweiler was a turnover machine this season and they had the top rated defense in the league.

All in all, I think the Chiefs need to worry about their defense more than they do the QB position. But if someone like Brees falls in your lap, then the opportunity there is too good to pass up.

The Chiefs loss looked a lot like a lot of the old Eagles playoff losses.

Andy Reid was well known for his shoddy play-calling and terrible clock management in his tenure in Philly and it's apparently carried over to KC now.

After 3 years, they're basically the red Eagles.

Clark County (Nevada) Commission Chair Steve Sisolak (who is a successful businessman, long-time public servant and active member of the community) says that the Raiders have filed relocation papers to Las Vegas.

Raiders just need to move to LV now. Playing 2 more seasons as a lame duck team in Oakland is a BAD idea. Just play at UNLV until the new stadium is ready.

That's IF the League lets the Raiders move

Most of the owners like to screw the Raiders because of when Al sued them to move to LA back in the 80s.

The thing that kinda screws the League though is that the Raiders are one of the up and coming teams. Carr, Mack and Cooper are national names now so to have one of their high profile teams play in the falling apart Oak Coliseum which A) is falling apart and B) they have to share with A's looks bad on them.

There are literally only like 1 or 2 of the current other 31 owners who were around back in 1982 when the Raiders moved to LA (add in 2 or 3 more if you count those who inherited from a spouse/parent who was an owner then). That's a complete non issue.

There's no question they'll let them go at this point.

Also Raiders GM Reggie McKennzie won Executive of the Year award

I am sick & tired of the AFC always sending the same teams to the Superbowl.
Patriots, Steelers, or a Peyton Manning lead team.
***YAWN***
Only the Ravens broke the trend in 2012.

Whoever wins the NFC, I hope they blow the doors off the AFC team.
Just like back in the good old days of the 1980's into the early 90's.

Falcons 31 - Packers 27 (honestly... the opposite is just as likely... but I have to go with ATL at home..this is coming down to who has the ball with 1 minute left.)

Patriots 21 - Steelers 20 (this could possibly just be a 38-17 blowout. but we can pray for close games)

Manning is retired and making Papa John's Commercials with JJ Watt, so that's never happening again.

As for the Patriots, as long as Brady continues to play at a high level and Belichick is still there, they will be the AFC Favorite every year.

I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight due to the big games tomorrow, i get too excited and cant stop thinking about it.

are you a fan of either of the teams?

Colts fire GM Ryan Grigson

I wonder if the new GM will keep Pagano? You gotta think the new GM will want his own guy. Though Irsay is nuts so he might not let the new GM bring in their own staff. But assuming he does, I'd normally be against a coach firing this late in the game. But McDaniels is still on the market as is Shanahan (at least for now) and Teryl Austin. The top tier coaches are still on the market and Andrew Luck's team would be a huge draw to any coach. McDaniels would absolutely take that job.

Just accepted a job in Atlanta. Guess I'm a Falcons fan now. Seems like a good time hop on the bang wagon.

Packers 41
Falcons 36

Patriots 27
Steelers 23

I want Falcons / Steelers - but my teams are not there :(

I just love football. I slept for about 45 minutes from 3am to 345am. Then I ate something, did get to sleep from 7am to 720am and been up ever since.

I've watched First Take youtube clips in loop for about 45 times, and I'm not joking.

As the games get closer, I'll probably start shaking.

I'm watching NFL network, they seem split on Steelers / Patriots.

I cant see Steelers win on this one....Patriots over Steelers 30-17.

Falcons / Green Bay is a lot harder to call for me. Its tough. Really really tough. I've thought about it for like 4 hours last night. I'll go w/ Green Bay, freaking coin toss. Rodgers is just insanely good.

also today is Chris Bermans last in-studio NFL broadcast

I have never been Bermans biggest fan, but he is an OG ESPN guy and I can thank him for his relevant contributions
