It was a black gang member, but it wasn't a stray bullet. There is a racial tension going on between the latino gangs and the black gangs. With this incident, it will further fuel the fire and eventually explode. Yet, I do not understand why the politicians lie to us and say it wasn't racially motivated. Why, when the community asked the Mayor of Los Angeles, many of the poor illegal hispanic communities join the 18th street gang, did he say, "I found that inflammtory. I am offended." ?

LOS ANGELES - A 3-year-old girl gunned down in her driveway after a trip to McDonald's was targeted in a callous attack by gang members, authorities said.

Kaitlyn Avila died Oct. 1, when two men pulled up in front of her family's Baldwin Village apartment and shot her point blank. Her father also was injured in the incident.

"This wasn't an accident or case of her getting caught in the fire," said Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Charles Beck. "He intended to kill her. This was a callous killing. It is beyond even what gangsters consider usual."

Beck said the killer approached Kaitlyn, her father and her 6-year-old sister as they were getting out of the car. He shot and wounded Cesar Avila, erroneously believing that he was a member of a rival gang. He then aimed his gun at Kaitlyn and shot her once in the chest, police said.

A joint task force of the LAPD and FBI has arrested one suspect, the alleged driver. But the 17-year-old suspected triggerman, Jonathan Banks, was still being sought.

Beck said the shooting underscored continued gang problems in the Southwest Los Angeles neighborhood of Baldwin Village. Two warring gangs occupy the area: the Black P-Stones, a mostly black gang, and 18th Street, a mostly Latino gang.

Though the victims were Latino and the suspects African American, police officials said they believe the shooting was gang-related, not racial. Authorities said they don't have a motive for the slaying.

A group of community leaders was urging Banks to turn himself in.

"The arrest of the second suspect will calm tensions between black and Latino residents in South L.A.," said Earl Ofari Hutchinson, president of the Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable.

i like the fact that you boldly claim i was making fun of the3 yr old girl, when i clearly made no mention of her. my post was in regards to the racial tension in LA between blacks and latinos, and in such my comment was a geared towards the generalization of a black man dating a latino woman, he probbaly get gunned down. so again, where was i making fun of the 3 year old child?

Do you want civil unrests.

It depends on the location. But if there is already tension in the community and I'm sure it is a poor community. But releasing that info publicly b4 that bagabon is captured and even after would lead to more deaths and civil unrests. They did the right thing lie or no lie.
