When we first announced exclusively on B-D back in May of 2008 that a sequel to 30 Days of Night was in development, we got an egg in our face and everyone was quick to slam us. Today, in an interview with MTV, Steve Niles explains that not only is a sequel in development, but the script is mother-*****in'-written! Read on for the skinny and get ready for more ice-cold vampire violence (possibly) coming to theaters!

“There will be a sequel,” Niles told MTV News. “The script is in. I’ve been working on it with a buddy of mine, Ben Ketai, who directed the last round of the online webisodes.”

“The script is based on ‘Dark Days,’” explained Niles.

In “Dark Days,” the character of Stella Olemaun heads to Los Angeles after surviving the vampire attack in Barrow, Alaska. She intentionally attracts the attention of the local vampire population in order to avenge the death of her husband, Eben, during the Barrow incident.

While the film made an impressive $70m at the box office, typically that doesn't mean theatrical sequel. Niles explains that Sam Raimi is giving him some hope.

“We didn’t hit that magic $100 million, but I had a long talk with Sam,” explained Niles. “He called me and just said, ‘Don’t be too quick to judge this direct-to-DVD market, especially with the sci-fi market.’”

Look for more info when it comes in.

I liked the first one and would like to see a sequel to it.

The only thing that I liked about 30 Days of Night was that I saw it on a first date with a girl and got laid afterward.

i just hope they can get the same actress who played Stella back, and then maybe both her and Josh Hartnett if they make Return To Barrow, which is my favorite of the initial trilogy.

I'm looking forward to this...in my opinion 30 Days of Night was the only movie in recent years to really capture COOL vampires.

Agreed.

One of the best Vampire films in the past 10-15 years. I don't see what all the hate is over it. I have most of the graphic novels and the movie didn't rape the source material like some do. It was fairly accurate aside from a few changes or omissions like the subplot with the voodoo woman and her son. I didn't mind that because the film worked just as good without it, it's actually quite comical in the book anyways.

I look forward to the sequel so long as it looks alright production wise.

Hope they do this, hope it isnt DDVD though, I really enjoyed the first one.

Pass for me. They didn't respect the source material enough in the first film.

The biggest thing I hate about the vampires was their language...it was executed extremely badly. Everything else sans Hartnett and the corny weed smoking granny was pretty good.

That's quite correct.

:o

I'm a lot more forgiving when the creator is directly involved, This is what Niles wanted to do with it. Is the source material better? Of course, but that's usually the case with any adaptation. One could argue that Clive Barker didn't respect the Hellbound Heart enough with original Hellraiser or Cabal with Nightbreed, but they're still decent movies (not that 30 Days is a good Hellraiser because that is defiantly NOT the case.)

I got the first 30 pages of 30DON with the DVD and it seemed pretty faithful to me, of course I havent read the whole thing but I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

They probably could make it with Melissa George again, if it was a straight-to-DVD sequel. She probably signed a three-pic deal when she went on to star in 30 Days of Night so if she's interested, Sony and Ghost House Pictures can lock her in for another go-round.

Not so sure about Harnett though.

Nice really liked the first one, and got the first graphic novel must get the second.

The subplot with the New Orleans man was a good idea imo. I was wishing they had've kepted that in the movie after I saw it. I also wish they've kepted the main vampire leader that came out and killed the vamp that was the leader in the movie.

The vampire leader who came out and killed the other one wasn't entirely necessary, so I didn't miss it all that much.

As for the subplot with the New Orleans voodoo lady and her son? In my previous post I mentioned it as being comical. Mainly because it says how they went through all that trouble over a long period of time to try to hack into the vampires email/message system to find out where their next attack would be and when the son flys over there to get proof he gets ownd instantly.

Yeah, for a film...that would have been sort of pointless. At least a film where they had no idea if they were even going to make sequels.

I think this easily made enough for a sequel and i'm surprised its taken them so long to get one going.

Since Josh Hartnett's character turned to ash at the end of the first movie how will they ever bring him back for a sequel?

I'm a BIG fan of the comic, not so much a fan of the film. This could have been so damn easy to adapt and do as a trilogy but nope. They fudged it. I'm not looking forward to this.
