83. Drag Me to Hell
AqFMFIU.gif

Fun Size Review: Raimi's forgotten gem, is arguably his most refined film. Theoretically more mainstream horror, without missing the Raimi of it all, every time I watch this, it reminds me of one thing. I really miss Alison Lohman.

84. Annihilation
mc7HiSG.gif

Fun Size Review: Garland's masterpiece of an adaptation of what is already an adaptation of two Lovecraft stories. The bear will haunt your dreams.

85. Gerald's Game
jUrCkDE.gif

Fun Size Review: Of all the sights that have stuck with me watching horror during my life, nothing quite hits home the way the Man Made of Moonlight does. I honestly feel like this shouldn't work, but it does. Flanagan and Gugino are just that talented.

86. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark
ehzVcJk.gif

Fun Size Review: Whoever's idea to adapt these books of my youth in this manner deserve a lot of credit. Almost as much as those who brought it to life. It walks the line of kid and adult horror effortlessly, reminding of what I use to fear and what I fear now.

87. Ready or Not
gidtLqw.gif

Fun Size Review: This is such a blast, and instantly became a modern classic for me. The cast is amazing, led perfectly by Weaving. I don't have much to say about this other then I love this bloody good time.

88. Werewolves Within
5p5b5gc.gif

Fun Size Review: Another strong ensemble cast, led perfectly by Milana and Sam. This is a horror comedy that weirdly feels like a warm blanket. Bloody comfort food, that will put a smile on your face.

Hammer Horror Frankenstein nigh

29. The Curse of Frankenstein

I love Peter Cushing's Frankenstein in this. Maybe my favorite version of the classic Frankenstein story. Sadly, Christopher Lee's creature isn't exactly that great. The balance of mad scientist/villain is perfect in this movie. Also, incest. Cousin marriage not just for rednecks.

30. The Evil of Frankenstein

Kind of a weird movie. Somewhat retells/changes the events of the first movie. And the creature is clearly an attempt to create a "legally distinct" version of Karloff's. Also, Frankenstein isn't exactly the villain here, but the hypnotist Professor, who uses the creature to steal and enact petty revenge. Cushing does have fun with a Frankenstein who is put upon by his work constantly being interrupted by villagers with torches.

31. Frankenstein Created Woman

Yeah, this is probably my second favorite of Hammer's Frankenstein. Frankenstein is a bit less important, sadly. And the whole "soul storage/transference" is a bit weird. But then it become a proto slasher, which is fun. With a woman killer, even more fun.

32. Frankenstein Must be Destroyed

Some odd parts really hurt the movie. The investigator is a little too cartoonish. I do greatly enjoy the more villainous Frankenstein, forcing a couple to be his assistants. But the random rape just puts it over the top, and has no other effect on the movie. I fully understand why Cushing hated it. Victor performing brain surgery was great and creepy. And having the "creature" being fully sentient is great. The climax is great, with Cushing hair perfectly looking disheveled.

Its crazy, i can watch this one dozens of time, but i still have trouble watching the 1990s one.
Has probably to do with me having watched it as a child when i shouldnt have.
It was so to speak my first exposure to horror and maybe thats why it scarred me for life XD.
The new one is darker but still Tim Curry is more terrifying to me somehow.
Doesnt mean this one is bad, no sir i really like it.

Night 29

89. The Guest
fihJ0Ak.gif

Fun Size Review: A breath of fresh air I didn't know I needed, The Guest is everything I enjoy about modern horror. It gets the joke, without giving itself over to the joke. Add Stevens otherworldly performance, and we have ourselves something truly special.

90. The Conjuring 2
LOskmDN.gif

Fun Size Review: I like the first Conjuring. The thing is, the second film does everything so much better. I bleed, jump, laugh and swoon right alongside the two grifters who stole my heart. There are a lot of possession tales. I just don't know if there is a better one.

91. Fear Street Part One: 1994
OslL6NS.gif

Fun Size Review: Maybe my favorite surprise of the pandemic Netflix era, was this trilogy, that brought me right back to my youth watching Are You Afraid of the Dark? The first is a lot of setup and character work, but still works well as a film on it's own. The narrative is carried by the love story, and is all the stronger for it.

92. The Final Girls
qZ9Bgia.gif

Fun Size Review: I don't know why techno blues, reds, and everything in between became the go to thing, but thank the maker for it. This movie has heart and a sense of humor, that carries it over it's very fun and very brisk 90 mins. Definitely an October keeper for me.

Night 6

It: Chapter 2 (2019)

Significantly weaker than the first, but I still enjoy plenty of it quite a bit. Enough neat scenes sprinkled throughout its chonker of runtime, which was perfect for my 5 1/2 hour flight last night.

For me right up there with the first film. Love watching these 2 back to back.

So as a former Catholic girl, my parents wanted to watch The Exorcist and The Omen, but apparently AMC is the only place to watch them right now (Prime has the former but I don't have a subscription).

Night 30

93. The Shining
mbfxJDX.gif

Fun Size Review: One of the few adaptations to give the source material the finger and make it work. The Shining is a well crafted beast, that doesn't really feel like anything else. That includes the book it's based on and it's sequel.

94. Fear Street Part 2: 1978
ALyGp6D.gif

Fun Size Review: The Fear Street's Jason flick, which is a literally 90 minutes of backstory. And yet, it really works. Maybe a bit too long, but it does so much right, it's hard to complain.

95. The Crow
iGXGGFP.gif

Fun Size Review: Clearly Chris and Jonah Nolan's favorite film growing up, you can see it all over their TDK. And what inspiration it is. That this movie turned out as good as it did after the tragedy is a testament to all involved, including Brandon. We still miss you man.

96. Doctor Sleep
F044JH3.gif

Fun Size Review: This movie has all the things that make Flanagan flicks and shows a treat. From the creepy monsters to the monologues with no ends. But it's Rose and her hat that make this truly special imo. Few characters standout the way she does here, and I get the feeling Ferguson has inspired many future storytellers. Shame about that third act though.

Halloween (1978)
My all time favorite horror movie. So simplistic, yet so effective. I'm a sucker for the long shots of them just walking around and Michael chilling in the background. Plus, just knowing all the BTS details about this movie has made me respect it so much more over time.

tumblr_nnjj8mPQtU1s1v3r1o1_500.gifv

Halloween 2 (1981)
Great concept, decent execution. The hospital setting is great for the spooks and tension, but something feels like it's missing. Still greatly enjoy this movie and it's easily one of the better sequels, and the gif above is one on my all time favorite shots in a horror film. Of course, nothing beats the increase in Donald Pleasence hamming it up and being a man equally as insane as the one he hunts.

Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
AMC, I thank you for having this on tv for me to watch because I had never seen it before, but also what exactly did I just watch? Why does this film exist? Why is Busta Rhymes having a knife fight to the death with Michael Myers? I'm so confused :funny:

The Omen, in 1080p, is on sale at Vudu for $4.99.

30.Stephen Kings IT Chapter 2

To my surprise, the second movie was on Netflix too so i decided to finish IT XD.
For the most part i like it more than the first one, mainly because the Adult actors have more range and the jumpscares are more creepy.
But the final act, boy im not a fan.
It feels unintentional comical to me, i understand the idea but it gives me such a weird feeling.
But either way, incredible strong movies and a good way to pretty much enter the final lap.

Since the final movie tonight will be the same from the last year and all, i guess i come to the same conclusion as last year with it...so nothing new. XD

Night 8

Last Kaiju night

33. Rebirth of Mothra III

The final of the trilogy. Do we bring back Battra? Hell no, we let Mothra fight the real King Ghidorah. And in a series that loves to just beat up Mothra in the first act, this movie takes is up several notches. Mothra Leo gets beat worse here than in the original fight in Ghidorah, the Three Headed Monster. And the Ghidorah suit is kind of weird. More copper than gold, and the necks feel a bit stumpy. Also weird in how Ghidorah is out to steal children. Again, kids movie, but weird. I do love the dinosaur version of Ghidorah, that was fun. And the death of one of the shobojins surprisingly hits hard. Also, more than one music video, so that was nice.

And with the end of the Toho heisei movies, I should move on right? Nope.

34. Gamera, Guardian of the Universe

Where the friend of children becomes more like a parasite of children. And unlike the Mothra movies, this wasn't made as a kids movie. Going from the old showa Gamera movies to this one is probably a big shock. Because it goes dark. Gyaos is a surprisingly effective villain. They turn that googly eyed mother forker into a creepy threat, by showing a lot of "indistinct meat" hanging out its mouth. Great start to this reboot.

35. Gamera 2: Attack of the Legion

Or where Gamera gets crabs. A big progression of them blending in CG elements into the practical suit elements. And they start the "meaning up" of Gamera's suit design. I do find it interesting in how they upped the stakes by allowing Legion to blow up a city in a failed launch of its seed pod. Just to top off on how many people we see the little Legion kill. I also find it interesting as there is a bit of a focus on tech, and feels like a good look at the early stages of the internet and cellphones in the mid 90s. I lol'ed when I saw a Netscape browser.

36. Gamera 3: The Revenge of Iris

The MOS of the Gamera trilogy. Only this time, unlike certain directors, it acknowledges the cost of such destructive violence. Very much so. It starts with the flashback to the first movie, showing the main antagonist's parents getting killed in the fight between Gamera and Gyaos in Tokyo. And then leads to Gamera fighting a Gyaos in Tokyo again. We see him protect a kid, and then proceeds to murder hundreds of others on screen as he blows up Akihabara. The dark version of the Gamera bond with Iris and the main antagonist is good. As Iris proceeds to murder the people who the girl hates. Including her aunt, uncle, and cousin. Also, fairly convinced Hideo Kojima either was in this, or was inspired by the "deeply philosophical" video game designer who was pro Iris. Great fusion of suits and CG in the aerial battle, and the final battle was brilliantly brutal. A highlight of the Kaiju genre.

So as a former Catholic girl, my parents wanted to watch The Exorcist and The Omen, but apparently AMC is the only place to watch them right now (Prime has the former but I don't have a subscription).

And thus why I am jumping in on physical media.
