Night of the Living Dead

Rewatched it but this time with the original commentary track of George Romero in 1994.

Trick 'r Treat

I was planning on watching it with the commentary this time, but I decided just to play as it is. I still say this is the definitive horror movie to watch on Halloween.

Night 9

The Final Night. Only one choice for the big day....

37. Halloween (1978)

I've really enjoyed doing a little marathon of watching the classic and the modern sequels, along with the youtube channel, Dead Meat's Kill Counts for the whole series, on Halloween. Good solid film. Definitely a classic, though probably not the perfect film many seem to hold it up as. The characters are fun and likeable, with no one you are really looking forward to seeing die. Great film to usher in the era of the slasher, and before they got super sleazy.

38. Halloween (2018)

The third attempt at a sequel to the original works really well. I have really enjoyed rewatching this on Halloween. Love this movie

39. Halloween Kills

Thank you Universal for putting this on Peacock. While this was the second time I saw this, I waited to put it on the list here till tonight. Very fun to watch right after 2018. Yeah, I enjoy this movie. Quite fun, imo. Still annoyed at total lack of delivering on the promise of Ol' Huckleberry.

Hope you all had a safe and spooky Halloween! The end of October is always bittersweet.

Night 8:
Michael-Myers-the-halloween-movies-41554986-540-250.gif

Halloween (2018)
I forgot how somber this movie was, which is a positive for me. I like the return to the more serious tone. Michael is a force and the soundtrack is killer.

Halloween Kills (2021)
Now this is a slasher film on adrenaline. Absolutely over the top and it's oh so good. I love the ridiculousness of everything.

97. Arsenic and Old Lace

Fun Size Review: If you are a Cary Grant fan or a fan of the golden age of cinema, you'll love this. This exhausting tale is nearly two hours, but it still flies by.

98. Halloween
SNIiFbx.gif

Fun Size Review: Since this has started airing on cable, this has been a family staple, and it's all because of the woman on the right. My brother's eternal horror flick crush. It's not great, not bad, and honestly not all that different. But at this point, it's a fixture.

99. Fear Street Part 3: 1666
0XBoJSX.gif

Fun Size Review: Another hour of backstory, that goes along with the finale to the original flick. And yet, it works beautifully. Fear Street is exhausting as it is rewarding, and I can't wait to see where it goes next. Oh, and Deena and Sam are OTP.

100. Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn
HhN6Pvx.gif

Fun Size Review: #100, is the GOAT. Two films in one, from the man himself, with Bruce doing all the heavy lifting. This has been our last film on Halloween for nearly 20 years now. Don't really see a reason to change that.

31.Trick r Treat

So, we are here...the final night, the scariest night of the Year, the time where the Ghosts, Ghouls and Monster party like never before.

And what better way to celebrate than throwing in the Movie that for me carries the Halloween spirit like nothing else.
I cant really pinpoint it, but everything about this movie just gets me in the Halloween mood so much.
I feel Anthology movies in general work fantastic for Halloween, this idea of telling several scary stories all about this one night of the year...its a concept i love so much.

Im still curious if we ever will see a sequel, last i heard was 2018 that they work on the script...but even if not, this movie stands on its own so incredible well.
The Spirit of Halloween is in this movie.

With that, we conclude my Halloween Marathon 2021.
It was a mixed bag at times and towards the end i felt a bit tired, i guess stronger movies would have prevented that a bit...but i really need to tone my horror movie watching down around August and september to be hungry enough for it when Halloween comes around.
Still, i enjoyed it as usual and definitly found at least a few new movies that will go into my collection.

Happy Halloween everyone and i hope you have/had fun this year.

26. The Conjuring (HBO)
vl5340.gif

A modern classic. I'm torn between which of the Conjuring's is my favorite, but my friends love the OG the best, so it's what we went with. And I still refuse to believe that the dad in this is NOT a long-lost third Duplass brother. 4/5

27. Thirteen Ghosts '01 (HBO)
2Ijx.gif

All everyone ever talks about from this is Matthew Lillard, and for good reason. He's hands down the best thing to come out of it and 100% understood the assignment. He totally feels like an authentic Castle character. BUT Tony Shaloub deserves his roses too. The dad in movies like this can often be a thankless role but Shaloub shows exactly why he (like Lillard) is one of Hollywood's most underused talents. His character is an authentically flawed but still devoted father, and he perfectly sells the heart of the film.

It's such a shame, because for so many reasons I WANT to score this higher but it's just not a very good movie. Will totally watch again though 2/5

28. Halloween '18 (DVD)
tumblr_pf3ftzQDR31w1s8lso1_500.gif

Yeah, I know, I'm disgustingly behind the curve on horror movies. But I FINALLY got around to watching this. It certainly didn't disappoint in the moment - an excellent, somber tale of murder, trauma and revenge with some masterful camerawork. It does kind of falter the more I think about it though, because I really think it would have been stronger if Allyson had managed to join up with the babysitter and that kid, because they were potential stars that were criminally underutilized. 4/5

29. The Final Girls (Hulu)
tumblr_ocp3tzRhu11ut1d6co1_500.gif

Thanks to Darth & Snow for the recommendation on this one. Honestly shocked I put it off for so long, given my love for Alia Shawkat. (Who really needs to land the lead in a horror movie one of these days) This is just so much fun, gorgeously stylish and shockingly emotional. Really loved it, wish it had gotten a sequel, definitely adding it to the annual rotation. 4.5/5

30. Trick r' Treat (HBO)
79dd9031d6f58577fa1f0e3347468fa0847b81c8.gifv

What can I say? No better movie to finish off Spooky Month with. I honestly really wish this had become a franchise, so much potential. (Especially for a prequel set during the original days of Samhain) 5/5

In the end, I didn't QUITE make it to 31 movies. And didn't have time for some of my annual faves. But I went over last year, so it all balances out in the end. :o
