I would like to have a tactful and open conversation about what people think about Nolan going the route of Batman vs Superman for the third ovie (please refrain from bashing previous incarnations of either and rather, discuss what COULD be done in this area that would really blow our minds).
The more I think about it, the more I would love to see Nolan make the third movie a Batman vs Superman. Consider how BB and TDK were done.. each was more or less a standalone movie, with loose tie-ins between the two. The Joker/Two-Face plot is probably one of the best story lines they could have done. As Bale said in a recent interview, doing a third movie has two really tough challenges -- first, beating the "third movie stinks" syndrome, and finding a villian that can beat Ledger's performance. Based on Nolan's past work, I think both Chris and his brother could do a kickass job with Riddler, but somehow that doesn't feel "bigger" than TDK to me (even given alternative story telling techniques, such as he used in Memento).
Just like (both) Nolan brothers like to bring us things we haven't seen before, I think Batman vs Superman would fit into that category. It would also give us a very interesting story arc of suposed dark knight vs white knight, exploring the interactions between superheroes that hasn't been seen before. It might also be the one thing to knock Marvel's Avengers out in the next few years. If you've seen the TDK, I won't mention it, but the line "now I see what I have to become to defeat men like him" and the lengths Batman and Superman would go to to stop evil, each with their own unique perspectives willing to cross different lines and having different philosophies.
Additionally, this would open the door for combining a superman villian and a batman villian into a new and fun way that hasn't been done before. We've seen Luthor/Joker team up in Batman TAS, we've seen Luthor and Joker on the screen separately, but what if it was Metallo and Black Mask, or Riddler and Intergang/Darkside.
Finally, this would give us the (arguably needed) Superman revamp into the action/adventure genre. What better way to do it than team him up with Batman in a way that would be unique (thanks to the Nolans). Given what Nolan did with Batman, I drool at the thought of what he could do with Superman, let alone combine Batman and Superman together.
