50 States Initiative: Who's Guarding Your State?

The Olympians once invaded The Eternals and beat the crud out of them, and there seemed to be lots of bad blood over the fact that The Eternals had been masquerading as the Olympians for many years....

There was but given that they even had humans worshipping the Eternals instead of the Olympians they were angry.

At this stage, I do not think humans will be worshipping team California.

Yeah, I imagine people will view the Champions as normal superheroes with god complexes, just as they viewed Thor until he brought Asgard over Manhattan and started ending droughts and stuff.

That sounds the most logical. I wanted to bring this up, too... where do you think the other countries stand with the initiative? Is there any mention of it in Excalibur, or was it mentioned when Thing went to France...?

I wonder how bad they will stereotype what Oklahoma looks like...and by 'they' I mean JMS???

"Next issue: Thor vs. Tornado Terry"

I'm not even aware of any Midwestern stereotypes other than the naive farmboy...

Omega Flight's supposed to show that Canada's had a mandatory registry for superhumans for years now. That's the only thing I've heard about other countries' stances on the issue.

I know that this is an old thread, but there have been a few updates to the list recently:

1. The Young Avengers are not assigned a state, they will be going to the Camp Hammond in Samford, Conneticut for training. Other trainees include: Thor Girl, Rage, Debrii, Slapstick, Arana, Hellcat, Citizen V, Cloud 9, Nighthawk, Scorpion, MVP, Komodo. The people in charge of Camp Hammond are Yellowjacket, War Machine, Gauntlet, and Justice

2. The Falcon has been assigned to Harlem in New York City

3. The Great Lakes Initiative have been assigned to Wisconsin

Do you have a link to where you read this?

Also, The Avengers: The Initiative preview showed a bunch of heroes at Camp Hammond. I'll look up the BDR later tonight (I don't have it on me now), it has all the Initative recruits.

You don't ride a horse to work? I guess you don't even say "howdy partner" to everyone you see. I agree that the stereotyping is kinda bothersome, but at least we're represented now. Anyway, if you think about it, New York-based Marvel Comics has designed a lot of characters on their regional stereotypes- look at Banshee or Arabian Knight for example- but we've yet to see a character play up to New York stereotypes. I'd like to see how New Yorkers reacted to Captain Yankee: a nuerotic, fast-talking, coffee swilling, crazy driving, Italian-American baseball fanatic with a penchant for tracksuits and gold chains. He has the power to be completely oblivious to other people under any circumstance and is known for his battle cry of "Getouttahere." Captain Yankee also has the power of the GAB, which allows him to talk someone unconscious by complaining about the Yankee's latest trade. His side-kick/love interest would be Princess Queens, a mutant Jewish American Princess with the power to make any man broke and a secondary mutation that allows her to deafen anyone within a 5 mile radius with her shrill, Fran Drescher-like sonic whine. They could head up a team which includes the Brooklyn Brawler(the muscle of the bunch), the Staten-Island Fairy (a winged creature who sprays her enemies with toxic "fairy" sludge), and Many-Hatten (um, I guess he has a bunch of expensive hats that he throw ala Odd-Job). Is the shoe on the other foot yet?

LMAO!

That's some funny stuff!
