Episode #6-3: "Wither" Tentative Air Date: October 2006

Written By: Tracy Bollomo

Any ideas?

Well this is from Dictionary.com:

with·er ( P ) Pronunciation Key (wthr)
v. with·ered, with·er·ing, with·ers
v. intr.
To dry up or shrivel from or as if from loss of moisture.
To lose freshness; droop.

v. tr.
To cause to shrivel or fade.
To render speechless or incapable of action; stun

So any idea who or what things dry up or fade away?

Sounds FOTWish to me. Hope a good writer is assigned to this one.

I googled it, out of curiosity, and it turns out that "Wither" is also the name of a Marvel comic character in the X-Men-verse....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wither_(comics)

Not that I think that there is a cross-over going on, just saying...

this better not be about some FOTW that touches people and makes them old...

It'll be about a girl who doesn't want to leave college, so she sucks the youth out of people and then...wha...you mean they've done that... :(

shootin out my ass here buts since no one sed it i will .....wat a bout witherd relationships....eh eh....

Maybe this is Clark stunning or stopping Zod in some fashion?

Naw, they have already said that Zod is done with in the premier.:(

You know, it occurred to me that the first season episode Reaper had a guy who turned people to ash...

So, they've already copied "Wither" from the X-Men comics, so hopefully that's not it.

Except that Whither from the New X-Men is a great character. FOW in "Reaper" was kinda 2-dimensional for me.

I hope it's not a FOW they've already done. There are so many powers they can use, I hope it's not another Ash inducing/age sucking FOW.:( :O

i hope we dont get more fotws....

It wasn't their best effort from the first season, true... I don't think they really had the FOTW thing down yet... some of the lamest ones were from the first season.

I hope you're right.

Well, I think when done well the FOTW can be awesome.

Cyborg's Vincent was terrific as was Clark as the FOTW the times he's been one (Blank, Splinter, Red), or when Lex was one (Memoria, Shattered, Onyx). Alicia was awesome as was Bart, I also liked the electricity controlling guy in Mortal (I forget his name)...

I think they realize the FOTW formula is stagnating, I see how they had really limited resorting to that in the 5th as proof they recognize that, but it's impossible to explore Clark's journey to becoming a hero without giving him bad guys to fight. I think that there will always be a FOTW episode here and there...

That said, I think with this upcoming season being one that will emphasize Lex's journey to his evil-doer destiny, the bad guy won't need to be some generic FOTW. It'll be Lex, which will be good.

Maybe somebody is aging pretty fast. Maybe Lion-El?? As a side effect from what his body went through in season 5?

I dont mind the FOTW episodes either, especially when they're entwined into the main story for the main characters. Like you mentioned the guy from Mortal was a great FOTW.

There were few typical FOTW episodes used last season, but they seem to have improved the use of them in there story telling greatly since Season 1.

They're no longer the main focus of the story.

Agreed. The formula for using FOTW's got a little stale in earlier seasons, but I think they've gotten more creative with introducing them and not making them so one-dimensionally "evil." The guy from Blank was one of my favorite FOTW's, because he was a bit more multi-layered.

It's also nice to see characters that have powers and abilities that aren't Kryptonite-induced - i.e. Bart, Cyborg, Aquadude.

UPDATED 7/24/06: The latest from "Secretagentman": There's a character named Gloria who is a "naturally beautiful" park ranger investigating some weird happenings inthe woods.
- A young couple is "frolicking" in the woods, and they are dragged away and left barely alive.
- Lois Lane barges into Oliver Queen's office.
- Lex hosts a costume party. Clark tries to dance with Gloria and a lumberjack "growls" at him.

FotW. Crap. But hopefully Oliver will show up at the costume party as robin Hood....that'd be hilarious.
