Drew McWeeney of
HitFix did a little report on the
Empire covers, and while most of the article is just basically summarizing his thoughts on the film, the covers and other related tidbits, he did have some interesting things to say about the prologue.
Our first best look at what he's got up his sleeve will be the six-minute prologue sequence in IMAX that is playing exclusively in front of the 70MM IMAX engagements of "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol." The people who I've talked to who have seen the six-minute segment just smile at the mention of it, and I've been told to expect something on a much larger scale than the opening bank robbery from "The Dark Knight" which played in front of the IMAX prints of "I Am Legend." That's going to be the moment where we really get a sense of what tone to expect from this one, and I'm willing to bet it's going to be very different than either of the first two films.
For some reason those words got me very,
very excited for this prologue (even probably more than I currently am). And that's why I'm ultimately looking forward to the prologue more than the trailer. While I'm sure the trailer is going to be amazing and give us a really great look at the film and its story, the prologue is going to really give us a look at the tone, atmosphere and overall feeling of the movie. I remember watching the prologue for
The Dark Knight back in December 2007 and thinking I just saw a clip from a movie that could have been directed by Michael Mann. It had a very distinct
Heat vibe even down to the music that emulated Trent Reznor and Brian Eno (especially "Force Marker" from the
Heat score).
I'm very curious to discover the kind of tone and atmosphere we're going to unearth once we see the prologue. I think it's going to be very indicative of the tone and feeling that Nolan will be going for with
The Dark Knight Rises. Plus, on top of all of that, there's nothing quite like watching footage from a Nolan Batman film in IMAX. It's an incredibly immersive experience. Besides, for those six minutes, it's going to feel like I'm actually watching the film. As good as
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol is likely going to be, I feel bad for that movie because during the movie and after all I'm going to be thinking about is
The Dark Knight Rises and those six minutes.
