2025 sucks in pretty much every way imaginable but I will say that this has been a great year for horror films. I feel like we have some new classics this year for sure and plenty will be fun to binge in October.

I watched Weapons, Final Destination Bloodlines (plus the other five FD movies) and Together within the last two weeks and I feel like I've been gorging myself on too many cookies before dinner.

I feel like this has happened for several years now, I don't understand why studios seem allergic to scheduling spooky movies in spooky season these days. As far as wide releases go, it really does look like just Black Phone 2. The first one was a decent hit for Blumhouse, but I could easily see the sequel going the way of Megan 2.0.

Neon does have Shelby Oaks coming out, that could potentially be a sleeper hit if they can pull off the magic they've done for Perkins' last two films.

Could just be studios afraid of horror movies cannibalizing each other. Sinners and Weapons did great at the box office in their respective release dates but hypothetically (and for the sake of it, say they weren't both WB films) if they were pitted against each other in October they might not have done as well individually.

On the flip side, most if not all the major horror movies released so far this year should be readily available to watch at home this spooky season so I guess it's not all bad. Also Eggers's Nosferatu can join the fray since that missed spooky season last year.

There are quite a few Halloween-friendly films that I'm going to see theatrically in September. Together, The Conjuring: Last Rites, The Toxic Avenger, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, The Long Walk, and maybe even the Jaws re-release, but the only October releases are Black Phone 2 and Exit 8. A lot of streaming ahead, then.

I'm also saving Heretic for this thread since I haven't seen it yet. I'm not a fan of Hugh Grant at all but I will tolerate him for Sophie Thatcher.

I have a new projection set up 80% ready and quite a few horror movies I've been saving to see for Halloween Season, besides all the classics.
