Last year I think I started off by watching the OG Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Psycho. Two iconic horror films that changed the genre forever. This year I'm going to start off with something that's perhaps significantly less iconic. Here's a hint:

Kicked off spooky season with I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025 Edition).

It was a little better than I thought it would be but that was entirely due to Chase Sui Wonders and Madelyn Cline doing a lot of the legwork with a memorable cameo from Sarah Michelle Gellar. I knew what the twist was going in and I still think it's really stupid. Almost as stupid as that was the MCU midcredits scene with the Brandy cameo setting up the next one, if it even happens. What are we doing, guys? Count yourselves lucky that you got this out of it. It's not a franchise that can be milked. The Fisherman is no Ghostface.

Halloween (1978)

I'm kicking things off with a stone-cold classic. It's a comfort movie, to be honest. The autumnal vibes are lovely, and the neighborhood setting is cozy. It's a classy slasher, through and through. Watching all 13 Halloween films is the main undertaking of my marathon this year; expect a lot of fawning over Dr. Loomis.

Halloween II is a solid sequel. The kills are more graphic, but the film retains a lot that works about the original, like pacing and tone. Loomis is in fine form; he's the perfect foil for Michael. They're both deliciously unhinged.

Freddie Prinze Jr. looks like he's been through it. Good for Billy Campbell though. All three of Lucy's suitors from Bram Stoker's Dracula are still hanging in there in showbiz.

That and the horrible dubbing. Channel Awesome reviewed it and said that they had to re-dub the audio for the exterior scenes and they got an older woman to dub the little girl's lines.
