clearly must have been something in the air yesterday because without realizing....

1. Fear Street 1994 (2021)
2. Fear Street 1978 (2021)
3. Manhunter (1986)
4. The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
5. Hannibal (2001)
6. Red Dragon (2002)

7. I Saw the TV Glow (2024)

Decided I was ready to be hurt again and bumped this up to a full five-stars. Marvelous, one-of-a-kind movie. I wasn't a fan of 'We're All Going to the World's Fair,' but I'm so glad I went to see this in theaters last year. Some of last year's finest performances and a story that cuts to the bone. Insane to think that there were critics saying this was about the "dangers of nostalgia" or whatever. It's a brilliant script, but not at all subtle. Can't wait for Schoenbrunn's next!

Night 16

38. Prevenge (2016) dir. Alice Lowe (NEW)

Bite-Sized Review: This movie has a vibe all to it's own. Inspired by 80s horror with a huge heap of general British anxiety centered around the fear and uncertainty pregnancy. And yet, still quirky.

It's subtle to transphobes. :o

Possession (1981)

It's great to be single when watching Anna (the exuberant Isabelle Adjani) and Mark (Sam Neill) rip each other — and themselves — to shreds in the hellscape that remains of their marriage. Possession is less interested in narrative than allegory, and what really keeps it interesting are the larger-than-life (louder-than-life, also) acting performances. It's an upsetting film, oddly comedic, and in many ways, a puzzle — satisfying and frustrating in equal measure. It's kind of a riot.

17th of September:
The Ghost Cat of Ouma Crossing (1954)

The Ghost Cat of Ouma Crossing is less about ghosts than it is about the backstage squabbles and power struggles in a kabuki theater. The horror kicks in during the last 20 minutes, after a vengeful actress returns from the dead as a feline avenger, but that portion of the film is easily the weakest. Irie Takako is excellent as the kind-hearted lead, and the theater is visually striking, but overall The Ghost Cat of Ouma Crossing isn't particularly memorable. I'd watch more of The Real Kabuki Actresses of Ouma Crossing, though.

Possession out here making people voluntarily celibate. :o

Night 17

39. Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (2010) dir. Eli Craig

Bite-Sized Review: You'd think the joke would run thin pretty early on but thankfully the film knowns to pivot ever so slightly to keep the happenings fresh. Not to mention some real all time hillbilly casting.

40. Little Evil (2017) dir. Eli Craig (NEW)

Bite-Sized Review: It's a cute premise with some solid ideas but the reason this works is Adam Scott. His dorky everyman quality makes some pretty straightforward material enjoyable.

41. Clown in a Cornfield (2025) dir. Eli Craig

Bite-Sized Review:
A film that wears it's inspiration on it's sleeve (I see you Hot Fuzz), it's another fun idea with cute moments missing that oompah Tucker & Dale has. But I could watch Katie Douglas for the rest of time so this is definitely a new mainstay.

A 21st Century Noir Horror Film.
A graphic investigation into parallel identity crises.
A world where time is dangerously out of control.
A terrifying ride down the lost highway.

I'm convinced this is one of the best looking movies ever. The Criterion transfer is gorgeous.
