Bite-Sized Review: Saw this in theaters again, in Dolby. More cracks show over time but the core is so strong. Tasty, tasty fear.

Can't say that I share Dead Meat's burning hatred for this film, just found it to be bland as hell. Kept wishing I was watching Final Destination 2 instead due to David Paetkau being in both.

The New Mutants (2020)

I'm a sucker for X-Men and Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, so for all of its faults with editing, pacing, and script, I still enjoy The New Mutants. The cast is fantastic (though Charlie Heaton's Southern accent out-hee-haws Andrew Lincoln), and Anya Taylor-Joy in particular shines as the abrasive but charismatic Magik. I love the film's take on classic X-Men tropes — the mansion, the kids developing their mutant powers — twisted into a haunted sanatorium with an unreliable doctor as counselor. There's even a sweet queer romance. Flawed as it is, I would've happily watched a full trilogy. Alas.
