8 Year Old Boy Commits Suicide

Apparently Maine has a high suicide rate, younger than 8.

"A tragic accident at home occurred when Joshua's sadness at the loss he had experienced at such a young age has resulted in this tragedy," he said. "The family are sure he expected to only injure himself slightly and are devastated that this cry for attention resulted in the loss of such a beautiful boy."

That's a ****ing huge assumption to make. Only the kid knew what he felt or what he was thinking at that moment. If it makes the dad feel better thinking that, go ahead.

Where's the usual "people that commite suicide are selfish ******s" crowd?

This is a sad story. I was watching the news about it. Poor kid.

Probably with the "Where is your God now?" crowd wondering why God would allow an eight year old to end their own life. Give them some time. They have a convention or something this weekend.

this story is terrible. wow, this world is not easy

You really can't make a joke of this or take it out of context . It is what it is . Sad , Shocking , and Tragic. There also isnt enough to speculate as to why exactly he did it but he was under the impression it was the right thing to do .

Thats extremely sad,
my only question is, "..his son only intended to hurt himself" How the hell do you only try to hurt yourself with a noose?

I think he meant only hurt himself rather than hurting everyone around him also.:o

I can understand that. You lost a mother and grandfather, your young. You want to see them, you don't know anything else. What do you do..try to escape and see them again.

It's a controversial subject. There is no "right" or "wrong" view of it.

It's not shocking that an eight year old boy hanged themselves? It certainly is to me man.

Kids die all the time, whether they play with daddy's revolver or choke on a Lego. The fact that this kid didn't truly intend to kill himself, just hurt himself for attention (or at least, that's what I got out of it), doesn't make it shocking in my opinion. It makes him like every other eight year old who wants attention.

It's a sad situation and makes me a little bit upset, but it doesn't shock me.

I'm shocked and disappointed. And also think that boy was killed!

He was probably didn't realize the finality of his action. Such a stupid... thing... event? Something like that.

That's an amazingly sad story.

You can only speculate so much... This boy is 8 years old. His life revolves around himself. He's not self-aware, and he's definitely not aware of how his actions affect the people around him. That's just not in the mind of an 8 year old. They're still just trying to figure out the basics and all their social skills, never mind coping with death.

To have two people in his family die within a year of each other, people he's obviously very close to, has got to be extremely hard on an eight year old.

No one here knows where he got the idea to hang himself, whether he saw it on TV or heard of it, or saw it in a book, who knows. For him to be in so much internal pain to feel like he needed to get away from life, to be with his family, that's just heart breakingly sad.

I almost want to blame the dad for not putting the kid in therapy to help him deal with the loss of his grandfather and especially his mom. They have therapists who specialize in grievance and loss and all that, someone who he could've confided in.

I think he didn't know who he could talk to; maybe he mentioned to his family he wanted to be with his mom. His dad said he talked about her often. Maybe they didn't realize he meant literally, as in he wanted to die to be with her.

I find it very tragic that an 8 year old would feel that bad about his life, and my condolences go out to the family of the poor boy. It must be hard on the dad to lose two family members within three months of each other.

That's why suiciders are considered to be self-absorbed bastards. The mourning this guy and those around him must do now is doubled. It's horribly wasteful...

I once tried commiting suicide when I was about 8 or 9, I tried hanging myself. Thankfully my dad caught me and stopped me. He then taught me how to tie a proper noose - no, just kidding.

Ever since then I have always flirted with suicide but I have yet to hospitalize myself. It's something to shoot for though.

That is not funny in the least. Suicide is a serious issue and one that should never be taken lightly. If you have truly been experimenting with suicide, I would strongly recommend that you seek help.

I'm not trying to be funny, I'm serious. I haven't been 'experimenting'
persay but it does go through my mind, how can it not? I've never actually attempted suicide by cutting my wrist, or taking pills, or hanging myself(again) but I think about it from time to time.
