80's Sci Fi/Action Movies Appreciation Thread

^ Sweet.......

Anyone know any sites where you can watch the old cartoon episodes?

i loved the first film, beautiful cinematograhpy. i loved the scenes where he gets his memories back were awesome and really instilled the humanity in robocop.

The best scene for me, is when Robocop visits his old house.

The beautiful thing about this film is that while it does have a side that is slam bang blood and guts knock em down action it has something that's stated in the DVD documentary that I agree with...something that most if not all other 80s action films lack...

Robocop has Heart. It has a soul, and there's something to be discovered there.

Robocop has a lot of soul. I totally agree. Something the sequels lacked.

There were scenes in number two that highlighted the fact he still thinks like a human being, he watched a female officer in a shower.

Robocop 1 was a great all around Movie.

I also loved Robocop 2, because it was just good old fashion fun. The Robot testing video is classic.

Out of the trilogy, Robocop 2 is the most like a comic book to me, in no small part to Frank Miller's involvement.

Starsky's right. "Aliens" is better. But "Robocop" is still great.

I agree, but I think he responded the way he did because despite the title of this thread someone STILL felt the need to bring up a film that's better than Robocop.

You have any idea how many films are technically better than Robocop?

But that's not the point of this thread.

Robocop 1 and 2 were ****ing awesome, but I am going to pretend that Robocop 3 never existed at all. The big robot fight at the end of 2 in particular is ****ing awesome.

Starsky brought up one of the films from this franchise in the Robocop thread, which gave me the idea of making another Appreciation Thread for it.

Though I didn't grow up with these films the same way I did with Robocop, Batman and Halloween, I did take the chance to see the first two a few years ago.

Since then I've bought the Quadrilogy set and have seen all four films numerous times and enjoy the franchise a great deal.

So, not including the abysmal AVP films, here is a haven for those wishing to discuss and look back on yet another one of the greatest science fiction series of film.

I haven't seen the first two in such a long time. I've been meaning to watch them again, but I've been a bit preoccupied.

Aliens is one of my top ten favorite films.

i was dissapointed in the third that newt and corporal hicks were dead . i never understood that . maybe it was because they intended to kill off ripley anyway so they had to write off these other characters .

The first two are masterpieces, my favorite one is aliens though. A great combination of suspense, spectacular sci-fi action and and a tense atmosphere enhanced by the dark lit gloomy sets and very good performances, plus great VFX that still hold up pretty well. The characters are really fleshed out and the story is great. My favorite line from the movie: Get away from her you *****!

Alien is a great sci-fi/horror film, it is very atmospheric with great use of lights and shadows, the art direction is superb. It plays with the viewer's mind and creates a great sense of tension. It also introduced one of the greatest sci-fi monster/creatures in cinema.

Part 3 I don't remember that well but I guess its because I really never like it much plus I didn't like the idea of nute and hicks dying among other things.

Resurrection has some cool action and visuals, the story in concept is good but some of the execution was not the best. Anyway its enjoyable and has one cool water action scene.

Alien is far and away the best. It packs so much suspense and dramatic punch. Excellent movie. :woot:

I loved Alien and Aliens. They are Sci-Fi classics (though I do think Aliens is better). These movies show how great Scott and Cameron are.

I actaully enjoy Alien 3, and don't hate it like many people do. I think it is good, but far from great. Fincher certainly has done better work than it.

Now, Alien Ressurection has some nice scenes, but it is awful. No other way to say it. The movie sucks.

I thought AvP had some nice bits, but overall was weak. They could easily have done better (like by making the movie an R type movie!!!).

All in all, I enjoy watching the Xenomorphs, and enjoy most of this franchise.

O.K, now lets get a Predator appreciation thread.

Starsky's right. "Aliens" is better. But "Robocop" is still great.

I think Robocop is slightly better than Aliens. I love both movies though, so this is a tough choice. But, I would have to give my vote to Robocop.

i think its unfair to compare two films that dont have much to do with each other
