9.1 - Savior - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

well i said i am a fan of chloe from the start more then lana's character. Sure she had some stupid storyline through the years just like other characters. Though if there is a 10th season we have no clue who will officially be back yet cause contracts could easily change. Plus months back allison did say she would like to end this year. But we dont know how everyone will feel by second half.

Is just a small minority, some of them pretty crazy to insult and hate Erica Durance (not just Lois).

Oh I know, the things they say about Erica are horrible it makes them seem terribly creepy, stalkerish and frankly detached from reality, do they think Allison would be happy to see them speak of a friend this way? It's pretty sick. Sadly some of them even still seem to be 'Chlois' hold-outs.

I know! I never understood it myself. The woman could do no wrong.

Yeah and it remains that way, they were all calling Clark a dick tonight for telling her no.

my favorite part! the last 2 scenes of the episode:

and here's the train scene:

Yeah I liked the end of the episode. It will be so nice to see Clark with a chick who doesn't make him completely miserable.

Man, what a great premiere!

  • The story was well paced. The season is officially setup and I am honestly very intrigued as to where it goes.
  • Cinematography beautiful (none of that backlot feel at all)
  • I was initally meh about Zod, but Callum knocked it out of the park. I couldn't wait to see what he was going to do next.
  • Seeing that \S/ on Clark's chest feels several seasons overdue glad it's finally there. The black outfit fits very well with the mood/tone. I can easily see him transitioning into the traditional look later.
  • That flashforward/backward/dream sequence was so eerie, I loved it!
Overall I am just very impressed with the ep tonight. I really didn't think it was going to be as good as it was. I sure hope they keep it up this year!

Also...

In regards to the Kryptonians. I am thinking the line from the female soldier said about their blood being taken before the battle of Kandor and how that was the last thing they remember is a big clue. Maybe these Kryptonians are actually replicas/clones like Zor-EL and Lara were.

That could be why they do not have any power at the moment. Who knows something either within the Fortress or within Clark could be the key to giving them their abilities. We will just have to wait and see.

Pretty good episode. Prettaaaaaaaay, prettaaaaaaaay, prettaaaaaaaaaaaay, pretty good.

I'm pretty sure them having no powers has something to do with the orb, because didn't Lex use it to destroy the fortress and strip clark of his abilities?

SUPERB EPISODE! What an awesome start to what appears to be an epic season that lies ahead .

Maybe they need Clark's blood and that's why Zod unleashes the virus that can only be cured with his blood in Rabid.

i can see that happening zerohour, also if any one finds the full opening teaser with the previously on smallville bit too on youtube please post it ok.

Edit nvm

Very good start to the season, most agree what everyone has to say but...

1) So the Orbs voice was not Zod, it was someone else. Does this person have to Kryptonian? A la Brainiac

2) Does Lois actually remembers all of the flashforward, she was there and witness it or did somebody plant these memories in her mind? To sort of tell her you need to stop this from ever happening.

3) Was it Alia that sent Lois back to present time?

4) Chloes reasons to want Jimmy back, was it because she misses him, wants Clark to turn back to the person he was, or both?

5) I assume Olivers cage match was the same place where Clark fought Titan?

6) am I watching a Lost episode where they're much more questions than answers? lol

I love Metropolis atmosphere. A dark and grity city needing of a saviour.
Hmm, that sounds vaguely similar to another major DC city :oldrazz:

I just got home and went straight to the dvr to catch this episode and I must say it felt like a really short episode, even shorter than the episodes feel when they are on dvd. I almost feel like they tried to cram in a lot of story, while still keeping things out from offscrenville. Also, i dont know but this show seems to have a completely different feel to it. It felt like this last season too, only that was due in part to the change in management. But going with what I saw tonight and the spoilers for the rest of the season, this doesn't seem like it will be the typical SV that we're all used to. Hopefully, it will be better.

And this just occurred to me, but does anyone else feel like this new feel of metropolis being a dark city in need of a hero seem like it's a attempt to fix what many were saying about how Superman movies need to be darker in order to be a success. It seems like the producers are somewhat trying to incorporate that this season.

As for Chloe, I feel like she may be sueefering from the same thing that they did to Lana's character in that sh reached a point where she outlived her usefullness, so in an attempt to kep her aound a little longer they eeecreated uninteresting storylines around her that didnt do anything but make viewers dislike her. I feel like this has already happened to Chloe and is also happening to Oliver to a lesser extent. Honestly, I care more for the Green Arrow than I do in watching Oliver go all around a spiral bouncing back and forth between doing the right thing and moping his problems away. If they do a GA spinoff, i hope they dont treat the character like that.

2) Does Lois actually remembers all of the flashforward, she was there and witness it or did somebody plant these memories in her mind? To sort of tell her you need to stop this from ever happening.
Maybe somebody told her 'Save the cheerleader, save the world':hehe:

it should be a fun ride seeing how things will all play out.

^looks awesome and I can't wait to see Pandora to clear up some of the air.....

Good episode! 3 fights too! Pretty awesome.
A coupe things though- are they going to explain the connection between this Zod and the one that possessed Lex previously? So far it seems like they're just ignoring it.
Also, why won't these guys grow facial hair? Give Zod a beard damn it! You'd think Green Arrow could've at least grown one while on his drunken downward spiral.

i guess the cw doesnt want any bearded folks on their shows lol. But yea lois's future visions were sweet, cant wait to see how things will come about in that future, and its bound to be more clear in pandora episode. Also has any one seen any early indications online yet for ratings?

*snipping and reposting episode comments*

Tonight's episode: I really enjoyed it. I thought there were a couple moments of weak dialog (hullooo, welcome to SV), but overall, I was intrigued by most of the groundwork they seemed to be laying.

Chloe - No surprises here for me. Her notions of self-importance still drive her character, from her relationships to her developing role as Watchtower. Granted, I've never been a fan, and tonight's episode made me less of one. However, I will say that I didn't find it odd at all that she'd ask Clark to bring Jimmy back. That made sense to me, as did Clark's response. It would have scored huge Chloe points for me if she'd reluctantly and sadly accepted Clark's judgment and decision in the matter and given him at least a little acknowledgment for making the right and most difficult decision (based on experience). But nooo... better to ***** at the guy -the one you supposedly know better than anyone else. And really, are we going to have to see JealousSadface on Chloe every time she realizes that Clark has feelings for Lois this season?

Emil! What a wonderful spark he adds to the show. He's "in the know" with all the superhero activity, and he's brilliant enough to actually show Chloe a thing or two. LOVE HIM. Really good actor too, with a great presence. I think we need to keep him. Can he be the new Watchtower? *hiding from the Chloe fans*

Oh, Ollie.... I welcome your sweaty pecs back with open arms. I love when you hit bottom because I can only embrace you on this show when we very clearly are shown how your heroic nature contrasts with Clark's. And I have to say it.... I find Justin and Erica's chemistry to be off the charts charming. Okay, I know they aren't meant to be on this show... that's cool... but in another universe, on another show, they are a dynamite on-screen pairing.

Callum Blue as Zod - Wow. I think he sizzles in his portrayal, but I'm not sure about this whole storyline. Not only is is confusing (so far), but the whole Army of Zod thing leaves me a little bored and waiting for the next scene. Hopefully they will develop this into a more interesting storyline.

Tess - ILU, but I worry that you're entire storyline is going to wrapped around Zod and the time-traveling wtf? Army stuff. I want to see you back at the D.P. once in a while bossing people around and making Clark nervous.

Saving the best for last....CLARK! As often happens, Tom's presence and beauty leave me struggling for words. How is it possible for him to look even better than he has before? I thought the black Kryptonian-esque ensemble worked much better on screen than it did in pictures. I groaned a few times at Clark's verbalizing his blaming of himself for things again (like the death of a certain guy who was actually killed by his wife's new boyfriend), but I also understand that it's the nature of Clark to feel responsibility for the events around him because of his greater abilities. Finally! A decent kick-ass fight for Clark. I loved the fight choreography, particularly that crouching stance we saw Clark take.

Double points for bringing up the question of his inability to fly to Jor-El. The answer Jor-El gave was totally predictable, but it was good to have that finally stated. I really like the idea that Clark has a strong tie to humanity that is supposedly holding him back. I don't believe it actually IS the thing holding him back, rather it's his being able to finally accept and embrace both his Kryptonian and Human sides that will finally culminate in him taking that final step towards flying - a metaphor for his total acceptance for who he is and his role in this world. Lois representing that human tie right now makes perfect sense to me. He needs his human tie, because it is an integral part of who he is.

His ties to Lois being used as a reason holding him back from his training can be seen as kind of a stretch in light of what we actually saw last season, but it's a do-able stretch for me. I don't have a problem with the notion that Clark has strong feelings for Lois that are surfacing in a way that is no longer deniable. Of course, I tend to go with the reinforcement of my girl Lana's initial impression way back when she first met Lois - "The best one's start out that way." Lana, someone who I believe actually DOES know Clark Kent on a level that no one else does, saw and felt the attraction way back when, and we all know she was right. The potential for a Clark and Lois magnetic-type of love has always been there. While we may not have seen much in the way of on-screen consummation from Clark's perspective (we did see Lois acknowledge her "love" for him), we have been shown Clark's feelings in many smaller, but no less significant ways: The Blur phone calls that he relishes even more than she does; the ribbing he gives to her and puts up with from her; his professional respect for her; the way we've seen him look at her...etc.

I don't know... if I, a Clana fan, can see it and acknowledge that it makes sense, why do people still scream Anvil! when it comes to Clark and Lois' emerging love for each other? Oh yeah... because too many in this fandom see what they want to see as opposed to what's actually playing out on the screen.

I'm sure I do that too, btw. But hopefully, not to a completely ridiculous extent.

Just watched the ep. I was upset last night because I hadn't set the TiVo to record it. Came on here to get some info, and found out SV was on Fridays now. Hooray! I = Win.

Good ep. Looking forward to this season, but it's strange how much of the cast has turned over. And I guess Zod will be here all season, based on Callum Blue's inclusion in the opening credits.

I was pleasently happy with the episode.

My only worry is this: This seems like the first time in the show, that they are going to attempt a solid/cohesive full season narrative. My only concer is that although the premier held together well, it was also flying in a whole bunch of different directions at the same time. I feel like they introduced more potential plot lines in that one episode, than they've attempted to in the previous 8 seasons of SV.

it is my hope that this season can maintain the projection of the premier... but I'm terrified of the veer off of the narrative into the ******ed tangent world of smallville.

I pretty much agree with everyone else's assessments. Only Chloe and a crappy excuse for not flying let the show down. Callum Blue as Zod, HOT!

BOOOOOOORING!
The only good thing in this episode was Chloe, everything else was total crap!
