Ok so I just turned on the telly and decided to watch something called Ultimate superheroes. A top 20

THe thing that gets me is that in the top 20 (mostly in the top ten) were

Men In Black
Indiana Jones
AUSTIN BLOODY POWERS

And the biggest insult?

Number 4 was JAMES BOND!

He was ranked about FF, DD, THe Hulk, Hellboy, The Tick(gotta love The Tick :hyper: ) X-Men.

I mean what the ****!

Why is it only complete freackin' tards that can get jobs in television?

I have no problem with people that don't know about this kind of stuff 'cause everyone's gotta start somewhere. But what makes me really angry ( :hulk: ) is when people talk as if they are an authority on something they know absolutely nothing about.

I hate you Rupert Murdoch. You are the walking embodiment of all that is evil in this world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggggggghhhhhhtttt............cheers, mate.

those are always inaccurate.I dont trust any countdowns unless there in comic book mags and even then I tend to look at them with contempt.Msn had one that counted down what they thought were the lamest super heros, silver surfer made it and so did thor so go figure.

if you had a choice to be DD, Hulk, any member of the FF or Xmen or James Bond who would you want to be...I'd rather be Bond

Look, I said it was gonna be a rant so...

Anyway my point is that if they did this with football or the top ten baseball players the nation would be up in arms yet it's fine when it's comics because comic book fans don't count. Damn them and their damn television channel.

Yes Bond is cool, but being cool isn't exactly a superpower

They were just being politically incorrect.

I didnt see the show but it's obvious they were taking Superheroes from all mediums, not just the comic books (the books dont hold a monopoly on the term).
Did they say who did the voting btw? (Sky viewers I'd guess)

I said nothing about comic books. A superhero must by their very natrue be...SUPER. I.e. more than just a hero

Also men in black started as a comic...

Just like dressing up like a giant bat isnt one either.

Last time I checked James Bond was never eally reffered to, or classified as a "super-hero." He's an agent.

I see what your saying but then again...I don't read DC.

Never liked it, problem with DC (batman aside although I only ever really liked Miller's take on the character) Is the problem with superman, heroes are too powerful, villains too weak = no tension. It may have gotten better recently but just never really got into DC stuff.

It's like which character would YOU rather read about. Hyperion or Superman?

Theyre essentially the same character and present the same problems you just stated.

In your quote I responded to you referred specifically to comic books?

Anyways, I agree in that characters like Bond dont really fit my view of what a superhero is either. Sure, like Batman he has skill, smarts and a ton of nifty gadgets, but until he goes that extra yard and swaps his tux for a pair of tights Commander Bond will remain a hero sans super to me (and a bloody good job too :)).

Bond would be my last choice.

OK allow me to explain, hyperion is more interesting because of his backstory. Something about supreme power just rang true for me. It's the classic argument of hero vs.antihero, at least it was, haven't really been reading squadron supreme. I only have so much money, although I'm thinking about picking up the trades, either that or dropping one of the spidey titles.

On a side note I'm taking suggestions on which to drop. Can't drop amazing or ultimate as these are two of my core titles

Bond should have been above Austin Powers and Men in Black but below Indiana Jones. And Spidey should have been somewhre in the upper spots of the list considering his popularity and how much $$$$ the movies have done.

yeah, I rmemeber that. So ****ing stupid

they also did top 20 villains and top 20 heroines/villainesses, I think and those were also littered with people who shouldn't have been there

I'm pretty sure part of it was they wanted to be able to show footage of the characters, not just still pictures, so they needed characetrs who'd appeared in film or on TV

Yeah, you didn't see anyone who hadn't got any live action. They were crap lists at the end of the day. The Incredibles beat the Fantastic Four :down

and it's not Sky One's fault, they were just rebroadcasting something originally produced by SpikeTV in the US

I think it was Bravo.

Yeah, some Supes fan boys made a thread complaining he didn't get the Number 1 spot a while back on the boards. They said it was on Bravo then. Of course, me being a Spidey fan boy, I had to stick up for him getting the No 1 spot... but the power of the Supes boys was too much for me :(

Yeah they were only showing characters that had a movie or tv show.

Really, what were you expecting?

Man, they played that SPecial about the history of comcis on the History Channel again. Awesome.
