Abandonned. Legendary Movies that Never Made it to the Big Screen

In the 1990's Wesley Snipes wanted to be the Black Panther - can you imagine it? This was right around his successful Blade series.

:wow:

And back in 2008 Warner Brothers was going to make Elfquest... but shelved it.

*fingers crossed* c'mon Elves !!!

Snipes could still be Black Panther, although T'Chaka.

Wasn't there a movie planned called "The Host", with designs by that Swiss man Giger? I think this one fell through. But Scriptshadow did not give the screenplay a good rating.

He was a big fan of the film and book, it sounded like he was going to do something realy good with that old story, frankly that's one of those classics that has enough problems to warrant a visionary Director taking a try on it. Though frankly, Sergio Leone was one of a kind, i can't imagine anyone else who could have handled such a task.

Very interesting.

I would have also loved to see Nicol Williamson as Dussander in his abandonned "Apt Pupil." I loved him as Little John in the great "Robin and Marian."

Crazy thing that Ian McKellan ended up in both those.

Not familiar with this one, but I heard about another Giger project that never got made, "The Tourist", which looked pretty insane:woot:

The Tourist! A funny 90's comedy starring Tim Allen as Tommy Roberts, an American tourist on his way to Paris. But suddenly, the plane flies through a black hole, and poor Tommy and his dog end up in Weirdania instead!

Tommy: "I've a feeling were not in Kansas anymore, Scott!"

Spoiler Alert, dude!:cmad:

:woot::cwink:

I would have liked to see Darren Aronofsky's takes on Wolverine as well as Baby Cart.

Didn't they just announce a Twisted Metal movie a few years back?

That, and I remember Paul W.S. Anderson talking about a Castlevania movie way back as well. Maybe not Legendary, but these were two I was curious about (although sure both would probably be awful).

Edgar Wright's Ant-Man.

I remember hearing that Castlevania was shelved for the same reason as Del Toro's AtMoM. They wanted these huge sets and costumes an the budget was huge, and it all fell through. Although I feel like I remember it actually being greenlit before failing.

I would have like to have seen the Chris Farley/David Mamet Fatty Arbuckle film.

Me too, I like when comedians play darker roles (can't wait for Foxcatcher with Steve Carrell) and I'm sure that Farley would have crushed it, especially under the direction of Peter Weir.

Im not sure what the end result would have been but man too see Nic cage as superman would have been horribly terrible or epic awesome, there would have been no between that.
I would have loved to see that one too.

It was mentioned in the first page - Spielberg's Night Skies. It may have never been made but the ideas were used in both Poltergeist and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

IIRC, Rick Baker originally designed a working E.T. and other E.T.s that were scarier. Baker posted photos of his efforts that cost him a couple of thousands dollars, on his twitter earlier this year:

Would have made for an interesting E.T. film instead of the one we got in 1982.

There is this one unmade film by David Lean - Nostromo. An adaptation of Joseph Conrad's 1904 novel of corruption and greed in a fictional South American republic. It would have been made if not for Lean's ill health, creative disputes, and a spiralling budget. Lean died about a month before shooting was due to begin.#

Others of note, David Lynch’s head spinning Ronnie Rocket in the wake of Eraserhead.

David Cronenberg's - Frankenstein.

Andrei Tarkovsky’s - The Idiot based on Dostoevsky’s classic

And of course the 4 Superman films that never took off:

Tim Burton/Kevin Smith - Superman Lives (after rejecting the script for Superman Reborn)

McG/ J.J. Abrams - Flyby (They must have hated Harry Knowles LOL). In this version, IIRC Ashton Kutcher - Superman, Scarlett Johansson - Lois Lane. Shia LaBeouf - Jimmy Olsen and Johnny Depp - Lex Luthor.

Wolfgang Peterson - Batman vs. Superman

George Miller - Justice League.

Nah, i'm glad we got the E.T. movie we did, Night Skies sounds interesting, but E.T. was an "event", if that film was resurrected, i doubt it would be anything special nowadays, we've already seen things like that, and the 80s had a certain style that's lacking in modern movies.
