ABC's Once Upon a Time - Part 5

Got to get ready for work now so I will just say this... THAT WAS WHAT THE PREMIER SHOULD HAVE BEEN.

Wonderful. Now, the game is afoot.

Now I'm just wondering what the witch's endgame is with Snow's baby. Clearly she wants it for some reason, but that's the biggest mystery to me so far.

Jane Espenson works her magic once again.

If there's one person walking this planet who can match Joss Whedon in talent, flair, and wit, it's Jane, and she proved it once again with Witch Hunt, delivering an episode that is not only the best of the series so far, but delivers the types of game-changing twists that mark Joss' best work on BtVS, ANGEL, and Dollhouse.

Jane also demonstrates yet again why she's as good as Joss is when it comes to developing characters, handing Lana, Jen, Jared, and Rebecca material that lets them fully stretch their dramatic chops and showcase their characters in new and exciting ways.

It was fairly obvious that the WWotW/Zalena had some type of connection to Regina even without reading Spoilers, and making them half-sisters creates the kind of personal stakes conflict that a character with Regina's mindset and personality needs to drive their actions while also weaving the web of the series' interconnected mythology even tighter.

Zalena taking an interest in Snow's baby and her having a crazy Rumple in captivity gives us as an audience incentive to hope that the characters figure out a way to stop her sooner rather than later, as well as a reason to keep tuning in, and also serves the same purpose, narratively, that making a soulless Angel the 'Big Bad' of BtVS Season 2 did.

Also, go Robin. It's only a matter of time before you break through Regina's walls, and I can't wait to see it happen.

I enjoyed the hell out of this episode, and the breadcrumbs leading up to the reveal (all the blood magic talk) was good use of the show's continuity, and I always appreciate that. There were some nice momentary swerves and the effects and production values were very good too.

Now.... Onto theories:

This is one of my current theories.

With this missing year business, I have the sneaking suspicion that currently missing Neal is at the center of it all. The Witch is a child of the Dark One, as is Neal. Who is to say what lengths Neal would go through to get his father back? Would he ally with the Witch? Could she offer her help as a fellow child, only to stab him in the back? And quite frankly, I am not so sure that later on in the rest of the season we aren't thrown another swerve that perhaps Regina is involved eventually in this new curse scheme as well. Sure, her memory is wiped as well, but that could be part of the plan. She had nothing before, but if Neal and the Witch were to offer both the call of a pseudo-family and the promise of getting Henry back... would the temptation be too much? Just a theory, but we do have a whole year's worth of character arcs and events to get to. I don't think it's out of the question that as part of such a plan, Regina allowed herself to be memory wiped. We shall all see...

Kudos to whomever it was here that first came up with the idea of the Witch's true parentage. I can't wait for the full backstory and getting to see her life in Oz.

Not like it was hard to figure out. I think everyone figured that they were either siblings or Rumples daughter

I love that they really cut to the chase with both the WW reveal and Rumple being alive. Love even more that Rumple seems to have his FTL personality, but in his Storybrooke body.

The joy Regina had in her eyes after she found something to live for. ****ing love her.

The ending was great and perfect way to bring him back.

Yay for Ruby! Meghan is just beautiful. Shame she wasn't cast as a character with greater importance.

Rapunzel next week!!!!! Hope she isn't a throw away character like they did with Ariel. :argh: If they introduce Ursula down the line I hope they bring Ariel back.

Rumple was looking and sounding eerily like his pre-Pan daddy.

Rumple has his FTL personality. But he did say something like "You should not have brought me back" & he never died in FTL. So I guess he does remember Storybrooke but for some reason he is his FTL personality

They need to bring my main mermaid back full time and get her in these storylines,

I have no particular attachment to the films of the latter Disney animated era, so if I never see Ariel again, I could really care less myself. Now they better not forget about Red... I don't care what she's doing with Holloway on CBS!!

Why do have suspecion we will get the revelation that Cora was pregnent when she married Regina's father and used magic to send baby to Oz when It was born green.

Knowing this show the witch's intrest In rumple can't be a accident.

Somewhere on internet fanfic writers will have a field day with regina In regards to henry. Wanting to use sleeping curse on herself till Henry could find her.If They weren't trying to cause twisted minds to have ideas they sure are doing a bad job of it:yay: Jane Espension must want OUAT to rival Buffy In that department.

That cleverage Lana Parrilla was rocking In Enchanted forest:hrt:

Very Intresting devolpments.Hope neal Isn't a monkey.

Nice to see Ruby again.Meghan Ory Is gorgeoas.

And best part Is return of Rumple. It seems like he will look like Gold but have personality and voice of rumple:yay:

I think you mean "couldn't" care less, but any who regardless of your feelings about the Disney renaissance of the early 90s you can't possibly deny their popularity, cultural significance, beloved-ness and importance. The little mermaid basically single handidly saved the animation industry, beauty and the beast was and has been the only animated film to ever be nominated for best picture, and the music dominated the best song category for nearly the entire decade

I could really care less about being corrected on my grammar. :oldrazz: :word: :woot:

And like I said... The films of the Disney renaissance, sans THE LION KING and ALLADIN... Meh. I know for sure how much impact they had judging by how much attachment is shown around these parts for every deviation that is made with them. Personally growing up, SLEEPING BEAUTY was the only Disney film I really had any affinity for. We were more a LOONEY TUNES household. I can appreciate the classic and latter Disney stuff as I was raised on a diet of classic Hollywood live action musicals. I get the appeal... But that doesn't translate it to automatic embracing, nor does it have to.

But... Yeah. I could care less if Ariel lives or dies on this show. Sue me.

Not saying you have to like her just saying respect the fans who do have an affinity for that era

Theyre important characters. Disney quite possibly could have been a dated relic of a company now if it werent for those films (regardless of how much you like them or not) .

Umm... Where was I being disrespectful of you or those fans? I said I could care less if Ariel lived or died. How does that translate into abusing you, or anyone for that matter?

Abusing? Hardly. Just saying they're important characters and should be treated the same on the show

I loved those Disney movies for one reason they kept my sister quiet when I had to babysit. Nothing happened that wasn't surprising today , good to have Rumple back though and Red.

I still think there was a strong whiff of Rumple's dad in his look and sound. I know... His impish personality had the same type of mannerisms as his dad. Still... I don't know. It raised red flags for me.

Maybe they are both stuck in Rumples head. Multi personalities.

The characters on this show make up one hell of a dysfunctional family

LOVED this ep... up until the 1st reveal. :o

I thought this episode was really good! I love the mystery and how she's right in front of their eyes. Hooks line about it almost being harvest time and charming not remembering ever doing the planting was funny. And the big reveal at the end I was not expecting but I'm oh so happy he's back and on the looney side again.
